Summer Vacation Plans? NH or PA?

OMG, we loved Trail's End ice cream when we went to NH on vacation! We stayed in Bartlett, which is a good plan; you are just north- and out of- the traffic from the outlet malls. In addition to Storyland and Santa's Village, we drove up Mount Washington, went to Wildcat Mountain and rode the gondola to the top, drove across the Kangamangus Highway, and went to the Flume, which was really very cool. We also saw the "Old Man in the Mountain," but of course you cannot do that anymore... sigh.

Hey Pat's Mom! What a cool place to live- we really love it over there. Did you by any chance go to Berlin last December to see The Nutcracker? If so, my DD danced in the show! Just thought I'd try for a "Small World" moment!

I didn't go to Berlin to see the Nutcracker last December. They had a performance in North Conway that I went to see. Did your daughter dance there?

We think the best thing about Bartlett is that we don't have outlet malls and chain hotels. Once in a while I miss having a real supermarket - Grants market is kind of an oversized convenience store with prices to match. But you learn to plan around the 15 miles drive to Shaws or Hannaford!

Another vote for NH, we were just in Storyland over the weekend and had so much fun!

I would also vote NH.

I would love to hear how it went with road tripping to Disney. We are also from RI and I have been toying with the idea with flights being sooo high.

I live in MA so going to the White Mountains is something we do every year. We camp. There is a lot to do.

However, two years ago we drove to Hershey and Lancaster County. We stayed somewhere in between (a campground). I absolutely loved PA. I loved the countryside. The farms wer amazing. At night we saw fireflies and I never see them around here. I loved, loved, loved Lancaster County and learning about the Amish culture. My kids loved Hershey. It was such a fun vacation.

just a little jealous post...

i grew up summering in new london, nh and loved it... have not been back since i was pg w/dd (16yrs ago)... i need to go back and do some of all the great things you folks have shared... my youngest is 2yo, so maybe when he's four...

Thank you for your responses. New Hampshire it is. The Value Pass from the Lung Association is going to be a great deal for us. Now to the planning, I wanted to go for my b-day but that's next week.

Just hearing about the local places to eat brought back soo many memories. We love Glen Junction because of the train and crispy pancakes!

To the question about driving to Disney, please feel free to PM me, but I have to tell you, I drove ALONE with three kids (dd12, ds11 and ds5)./ My ds11 is PPD/MMR with all the related aniexty, etc issues. We did great! We left RI at 3:00 a.m., stopped frequently. Stayed overnight in Fayetville, NC (a few miles from the SC border) and woke about 6:00 a.m. and made it to Orlando by 2:30 or so, taking into account a good hour or so trying to locate a decent ice coffee!!!

I really hope you enjoy your trip to NH. I grew up outside of Boston but never really visited the White Mountains until a few years ago. As previously posted, we stayed in Bartlett and had a great time seeing stuff in the area. I am sure you'll have a wonderful vacation! One attraction that we really really liked was Heritage New Hampshire. It was a living museum, with vignettes you could walk through depicting the history of NH. I think it's closed now, but if it isn't, you definitely should check it out! Attitash (ski resort) has many, many condos for rent at this time of year. Check vrbo.com or tug2net to rent directly from the owners. good luck, and happy vacation planning!

We are planning to visit both of these areas this summer. Can you recommend any good campgrounds?

Thanks!
