Summer/hot weather visitors....To Makeup or not to Makeup??

I don't wear makeup at the parks, only sunscreen, plus a wide-brimmed sunhat. We tend to go back to our room between the parks and dinner, so I can apply makeup then.

I used to apply makeup to go to the parks, but it inevitably slides off (very oily skin), so applying it during hotter weather is just not worth it. The photos still look as though I don't have any makeup on, because it is gone!

What lipstick are you talking about? I would love to try it.

What mascara do you consider GOOD?

You too...what mascara do you consider GOOD??

What mascara are you using?? :rolleyes1

I've tried Dior & every other waterproof mascara I could find. Please help!! popcorn::

After my Covergirl waterproof mascara was discontinued, it took me a while to find one I like. I have very oily skin, and on me, even waterproof a tend to smudge.

I finally found one i love. it's Maybelline "Classic" waterproof mascara. It stays on really well, doesn't smudge at all, and it's only about $7 a tube!

BTW, if you buy cosmetics at Walgreens and don't like what you got, keep the receipt and you can return it! Saves tons of money if you're experimenting with a new product.

I didn't read all the responses so I don't know if this has already been said, but I really recommend the Urban Decay All Nighter or De-Slick makeup setting spray. Both can be found at urbandecay.com, sephora.com/Sephora stores, and ulta.com/Ulta stores. They really help your makeup to stay on no matter what. The De-Slick is for oily skin, so if you have oily skin I'd go for that one. Regular skin, go for All Nighter. As for eyeliner, definitely try Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes. You can cry a river but it doesn't budge. As for face makeup, I'd go for something light, like Bare Minerals or a tinted moisturizer (Laura Mercier's is great, and has some SPF in it). Foundation will get super cakey, even with one of the setting sprays. If you want to do blush, go for a cream blush - Nars's is really nice, I like Penny Lane. I'd go for a cream shadow, too - Maybelline makes a great one, Color Tattoo, and the Bad to the Bronze shade is flattering on most skin tones. Have fun!

I have a Disney 'day' look and a different 'night' look. I shower in the afternoons right before we leave for the evening dinner/park and do not shower in the AM.

In the AM -

-Splash face with water and remove all clothing.
-Put hair up in a hair clip (I have curly hair and slept on curly hair is bizarre. This also keeps the hair off my neck and getting hot during the day).
-Apply Loreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Lotion with SPF 15 in Light/Medium all over my body (except for bottom of feet and hands). I add SPF 50 to 100 on my most exposed parts like the back of my neck, front of my neck/chest area, and shoulders. But since you are meticulous in applying the self-tanner and rubbing it in, the SPF really works well.
-Lightly use the leftover product on my face. Then apply Jergen's gradual self tanning lotion for the face in SPF 30. Add SPF 50+ if needed but usually I'm good.
-Let the product dry. This takes forever because this self-tanner is moisturizing so I brush my teeth and such then go to my 'make up'.
-Blot face with rice paper (and keep rice paper with you all day long and use them often). Don't get the kind with powder, just plain blotting papers. Epcot's Japan pavillion sells gorgeous packs of these for just $2.95!!!
-Use 'sticky' cover up, not liquid, for any 'imperfections' (um, red dots!) - Try Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge or Benefits Bo-ing.
-Lightly brush on a powder foundation. I use MAC Studio Fix. And LIGHTLY brush it on just to get rid of the shine and to get a more even skin tone. But the self-tanner will take care of the later anyway!
-Use Cream eyeshadow. My absolute favorites are Make Up Forever's Aqua Cream shadow in #16 and Benefit's cream shadow in RSVP. Very light shades.
-Use powder white shadow under brows and in corner of eyes to brighten. I use Estee Lauder's Ice color. You could use a cream shadow as well.
-Use waterproof eyeliners (with a light hand for the daytime). I like Make Up forever's stick eyeliners - fabulous! Set the eyeliner with a powder over top (very lightly - just helps the make up stick).
-Use a cream blush. I like Maybelline's new dream bouncy blush.
-Use a light SPF loaded lip tint or balm. I like Burt's Bees in strawberry.

For the night look-
-I do not put self tanner on in the evening.
-I do the same as above and then add a darker shadow for a smokey eye (I like Benefit's cream shadow in purple snap) then cover the eye with a shimmery pink shadow, add mascara, and add a lipstick/gloss.

The cream eyeshadows work WONDERS!!! And if you must wear mascara all day, use waterproof so it doesn't smear underneath your eyes. As for lips, I love reapplying lip balms, or lip color so I don't buy the matte colors. They just dry out my lips. I just reapply when I am in the restroom. Or just whip out a pretty chapstick whenever!

I realized it must sound like I cake it on so here's the daytime look (sorry, I don't have any others that are close up!):

Now this is after a morning of touring at Magic Kingdom and we had lunch at Captain Cooks so in all fairness, this is a bit melted. But I really don't wear a lot of dark make up colors so even the light colors don't look funky as the morning wears on.

And here is the night time look (taken 2 different years but funny how we pack the same clothes every trip ):

For WDW summer heat I wear waterproof mascara and a little lip balm or gloss.

Never any at all????? I wish I could get away with doing that! I am not horribly old (43) but I have a few freckles I would like to cover and my face (and the rest of my body) is very fair so I like a bit of color. I cant do eyeliner though! Never learned how and when I try, it comes out looking like I went 10 rounds with Ali back in the day!:lmao:

Someone said Jergens? okay I have used the self tanner stuff on my legs - is this the same for your face? If I start using it at the beginning of the trip, will I look overly dark by the end? I dont want my body to be white and my face to look like the tanning mom who was recently in the news. :scared1: I dont want to spend a whole bunch of time, I get that, but I do feel (and look) better when I have a bit of SOMETHING on. I mean my hair will be in a ponytail and I will be wearing very casual shorts and tennis shoes - I dont want to go with nothing at all on my face and scare the small children at the parks!;)

Sounds like I need to make a trip to the drugstore soon!

I HIGHLY recommend self-tanner. It really helps to even out your skin tone so you don't have to use any foundation or tinted moisturizers and it doesn't 'melt off'. I use it all the time (you can see my previous post on what I use - I do use a different body and face self-tanner).

If you have not used it before, use it well in advance to your trip to make sure you know how it looks on you and if you can apply it. While the sprays are 'easy' (or at least appear to be), they end up streaking no matter what. I wear self-tanner for any time I will be going on vacation or wearing a bikini so I've tried lots of them. The lotions are much better than the sprays. You really have to work them into your skin and rub so it's easier to get an even tan without streaks. The gradual self-tanners are ok but it takes a while to see results. I use a light or light/medium color so it still is not dark but you see results right away.

Also, keep track of when you need to reapply. I swim every afternoon at Disney then I shower and sometimes even take a body shower before I go to bed at night so the self-tanner fades quicker that way. If you don't swim, then you may put the self-tanner on 3 days in a row, then just apply it every other day. As for your face, use a little less. A darker face looks really weird. Again, practice prior to going to Disney and find out what works for you!

It is really amazing what a little self-tanner can do with some shimmery lip tint. It screams summer and is so low-maintenance during the day! It also makes you appear thinner. I only started wearing bikinis when I found self-tanner. It evens out my tummy skin tone just enough that I'm ok to bare it even after a couple pregnancies :thumbsup2

I only wear mascara and liquid eyeliner anyway, so not that much of a difference really. lol If it's still sweltering hot in September (it is here in Alabama) then none.

First, I don't wear foundation, so that helps a ton with the "melting in your shoes" factor. For eyeshadow, I use a primer base from Urban Decay first that helps with the staying power for the eyeshadow. I use a waterproof mascara, too. My eyeliner stays on as well, I guess from the primer.

Lip gloss is easy enough to reapply. I don't like the feeling of the long-wearing formulas. Makes my lips feel too dry.

This worked for me on our recent trip in May.

My Disney makeup is waterproof mascara and a light colored eyeliner. Maybe a colored chapstick. That's all.:cutie:

I visit in July & August so you know the weather is downright HOT! I usually just wear waterproof mascara, tinted moisturizer with spf, bronzer & lipgloss with spf. For nightime, I just add a bit of brown eyeliner. Even though it's just to hot to fuss with make-up during the day, I still want to feel pretty for pictures.

I highly recommend:

-Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
-Clinique Glosswear SPF 15 in Whisper
-Clinique Brush-on Cream Liner in Deep Brown
-Nars Laguna Bronzer
-Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes!

Shelter by philosophy. Tinted SPF. Love it. Add the supernatural powder by Philosophy, and I'm good to go!

Do you not have any skin reactions by mixing all of these products? I am scared to death to have some major reaction to mixing face self tanner + moisturizer + foundation, etc... (Your skin looks beautiful & flawless in your pics, btw!)

The reason I ask this is because when I was probably in the 4th or 5th grade, Estee Lauder came out with the ORANGE self tanner. I was THRILLED to use it b/c I am fair & freckled. I put it on my whole body & face, & that night used my Mom's Mary Kay cleanser & moisturizer. The next am I had to miss school b/c my face had SWOLLEN UP about 3x the normal size, due to a reaction from mixing those products! :scared1:  I was excited to miss school though :rotfl:

I can't go out without make-up.I will wear waterproof mascara and liquid foundation-spf 15. I may use eye shadow. I am also exited about the lip balm I have found by carmex-raspberry lemonade flavored has an SPF of 15. So summery...gonna be fun.

I wear make up everyday so I understand the dilemna of what to wear when it's insanely hot in the parks and you're all sweaty..

Blinc mascara- (yep, spelled it correctly) It's this amazing mascara that literally wraps you individual lashes with "tubes" of mascara. Waterproof, sweatproof and smudge proof. I buy it at Sephora.

Sephora waterproof eyeliner- I use this to define my eyebrows a little and my eyes. Won't run.

Lipgloss- Bobbi Brown makes good ones that have pretty colors that won't run. Lip stains also work well.

Blotting papers

I also like Clinique BB cream- it has SPF 30, a slight tint and a little mica in it to deflect imperfections...

Kristina :)

I wear full make-up every day at Disney. I use primers for eyeshadow and foundation, waterproof eyeliner, and I've recently started using a finishing spray, which makes a big difference. Prior to that I used to touch-up with foundation and finishing powder several times a day. This past trip I did one touch-up before dinner and even then it wasn-t bad at all.

Agree with the finishing spray. It makes a difference for me too,I use Makeup Forever Mist and Fix

Thank you for the compliment :goodvibes Self-tanners have come a LONG way since I first tried them too. I am fair-skinned (those pictures of me are TAN!) and have very sensitive skin. I can't even wear clinique's supposedly fabulous lotion - it makes me break out (I'm allergic to tea tree oil and have latex sensitivity too and get every rash known to man). But products have come a long way and of course, I've tested all my products prior to going to Disney. But yes, I layer different kinds of sunscreens and lotions on my face for outings.

At Disney, I will wear the self-tanner in the morning only and a sunscreen (jergen's gradual self-tanner with spf 20 is also advertised as a face lotion). But the foundation I wear is a powder foundation and I only lightly brush it on (or bare minerals mineral veil) over any 'spots' I've covered up and to get the shine off my nose. In the late afternoon after I've showered, I will put on a bit more of the foundation (again, it's the powder kind - MAC Studio Fix) but I don't put on self-tanner. The self-tanner gives my skin enough of a healthy glow that it really does even out the imperfections and doesn't look so pasty ;) It's definitely my go-to look for warm weather vacations and bikini days!!
