summer 2024 or 2025?

We've had our first-visit trip in mid-July planned for 9 months, so of course we're feeling bummed/cheated about a few big rides being down, as well as what looks like one of the prettiest parts of disneyland totally closed. We were hoping for Rogers in the Hyperion too, as we assumed there would be a show there during the summer!

I know there will still be a lot to see and do, and all the nighttime shows and parades, but I am wondering if it would be better to punt to a 2025 summer trip? Since it's an anniversary year, will there be more likelihood for theatrical shows and less construction? I'm really struggling with what to do. It's obviously expensive for a midwest family of 6 to fly to California, so I want to have the best chance at a good experience. Everything is refundable for this July trip.

What would you do?

Thanks.

If those rides/areas are important to you, and you don’t go very often, you can delay until next summer knowing that they will be open. However, with Disneyland Forward coming online, I think we may be in for an extended construction period and no one knows what will be closed for refurbishment in the coming years.

That's such a tough choice!

I'd guess there will be less construction in the parks next year, but I think DTD might have some for a while.

The new Tiana ride should be up next July, and HM should also be back up. I'm not sure if Rogers is ever supposed to come back, it might only have been for last summer.

I've postponed trips before when rides I liked were down, and we've also HAD to cancel and rebook a few times due to health issues, school events etc. It's never fun, but in the end I'm usually glad we put it off. Also, more time to plan!

On the other hand I think it can be good to strike while the iron is hot and just go. Even if it isn't the optimal experience, at least you went. And even with some areas closed you'd still have a great time.

That said, I totally understand your concern with all the construction, closures etc. I'd say if it's your first and maybe only Disneyland trip I'd postpone.

What are you leaning toward?

I think only you can decide. We are visiting DL for the first time this summer and are coming from PA. I have no idea if we’ll ever get back, but postponing wasn’t an option for us as DL is a small part of a bigger two week trip. Are we disappointed that some rides are closed? Sure, but almost every time we go to Disney World a ride we like is closed. We’ll still be in DL and know we’ll have a great time! And like another poster said, you could postpone to next year and another popular ride could be closed. You just never know what Disney is planning in the future.

The problem is you are gambling waiting until 2025. Who knows what will be down at that time. There is going to be a ton of construction over the next 10 years and rides are constantly up and down.

I am one of those people that would just go because there will most likely be something else down I want to go on whenever I choose to go.

I would be very surprised if anything starts happening with DF by next summer, and also, the major projects will be outside the existing park areas, so will any of that construction even affect existing ride areas?

If my aging process could transfer to Disney’s time schedule…I’d live to be as old as Methuselah! They move notoriously slow on all things. I would wait until next year when that side of the park is open again. Right now with two major rides down, it seems more crowded as people have nowhere to disperse to. While the future is unknown, there probably isn’t another major attraction that will get an extensive closure for rehab in near future (just guessing here), although they certainly need to do work on Buzz and replace non working guns!

I'm tentatively planning late Aug/early Sept 2025. I'm hoping the Tiana & new queue HM mania will have died down just a little and the Halloween crowds will not be in full swing.

The Westside (BTMRR, PotC, HM, & the 'Ride Formerly Known as Splash') is my favorite area and I'm not going when half of it is closed down.

I just saw that Disney has filed for a lengthy work permit for BTMRR.reported by Disney food blog. Too soon to tell, but you might get HM and Tiana, and lose BTM.

The upcoming BTMRR refurb is at WDW, not Disneyland.

To the general point, there are almost always major rides down for refurb. Almost impossible to avoid it completely.

Oops. Thnx

While I understand that something will always be down and so you can’t really plan around that, considering that this is your one trip then I would wait until Haunted Mansion and Tiana by adventure we’re for sure going to be open, which is not this summer.

Go next year so you can almost most def. ride and enjoy "Haunted Mansion" and "Tiana"... That's what I'd do anyways. Also next year is the 70th Anniversary so that'd be kinda cool to go then. They'll probably and hopefully do a few cool and different things to celebrate.

We are waiting until 2025 to even think about a Disneyland trip. Too many things closed, coupled with only 1/2 hour early entry instead of an hour, the quality of food has gone down drastically, and, the cost of everything far exceeds the value.

My answer depends on if you somewhat regularly go to WDW or not. If so, I'd still go to Disneyland this July. If you don't regularly go to WDW meaning this is a very rare Disney Parks trip, I'd consider waiting. While I love Disneyland's Haunted Mansion and Critter Country is one of the prettiest areas in my opinion, Haunted Mansion (since it won't be the Holiday version) and Tiana aren't "too" different at DL compared to WDW. There is so much else to do and see at Disneyland that I think you'd still have a wonderful experience and enjoy yourselves. You'd still be able to do many things unique to or better at the DL resort (Cars Land, Matterhorn, Indy, Pirates, etc). If you go to WDW sometimes, then you'd know for future trips if you prefer DL or WDW. But again, if this is a one-time trip, I'd wait for Haunted Mansion and Tiana to be open and hope closures next year in the summer are minimal. Best of luck with the decision!

I am of the view if you can financially swing it, and have the time, go. Don't wait. There are no guarantees in life, and I have never regretted taking a trip-I have regretted not taking/delaying a trip.
