Summer 2021 already booking up?

I'm looking at June 2021 specifically, and noticing that several resorts are completely booked, or all but the most expensive rooms are booked, for the dates I'm trying. (I'm specifically looking at the Poly, but this is true of other deluxes as well.) July seems to be a little better. We really haven't wanted to book this far in advance, though I guess we could do it; the earliest we've ever booked is 7 months out. I'm pretty surprised to see such low availability for weeks 10 months out.

Is this all because many of the resorts have no opening dates and cannot be booked? Because people are scrambling for something positive to look forward to? Because of all the displaced 2020 people rebooking? A combination?

This seems to indicate that Disney won't need to have summer discounts to fill their rooms, but then I've also read predictions that they'll need to have steep discounts to lure people back in.

I guess I'm just confused!

All the things you say are contributing. People with canceled trips or those betting things will be better next year. We hadn't planned on going next summer, but our cruise was canceled for this summer. We rebooked for next summer with a stay at WDW. Things were already getting busy for the 50th. If you wanted a park reservation when they opened for next summer, a hotel reservation helped. I don't know if they are blocking closed hotels. We have a reservation in July for GF, non-DVC, and it's not currently open. I have heard of others booking hotels that are currently closed. Why not book now? If you are doing room only, you are only out the cost of 1 night. No one really knows what true demand will be for next summer yet. A lot of people probably just booked in case. If the Covid situation improves a lot or the economy isn't as bad as people are predicting, demand could be really high.

Thank you for your thoughts. And I'm sorry about your cruise! I guess we've been hesitant to pull the trigger because I'm having a hard time believing conditions will be good enough for us to want to go next summer, which sounds so insane - it's 10 months away! - but we live in CA and things are still far from normal here, and DLR is still not open. But I guess the deposit isn't too high for us to do it, so we really should just go for it, especially now that I'm seeing the demand.

I was actually glad about the cruise. I don't think it would have been good or comfortable at all. Plus, the cruise we switched to next summer looks really good. We did end up going to WDW and UO mid-July anyway though. I know what you mean about next summer. It's so hard to tell what will happen. Luckily, cancellation policies are generally very favorable right now.

A combination of things but remember that any resort that is closed and does not have a reopening date is unavailable through Sept. 26,2021. So when you search what you may think if a booked resort is really in most cases just a closed resort. For example: WL, ALK Jambo, BWI, All Stars, POFC..

It does seem weird I have 5 days at Rivera next June, we are also doing a cruise. Both aspects were pushed back from this summer. But now that we are waiting a year we are thinking about adding a few days on to wdw with a split stay before Rivera. At first poly had reg rooms and there was a lot of availability all over. This week half the stuff I was looking at is gone. I’m also considering a split stay with a universal hotel. So I’m not jumping the gun booking yet but there was a big change overnight. I googled was a ride opening? Convention? But I couldn’t find any explanation as to why the availability became suddenly so limited.

Interesting I just read at another thread that people
Are being moved from certain resorts even in August 2021, so availability might being impacted by that.

I had some weird availability issues trying to book the last week of May. I switched to June and everything was wide open. Could be the usual Disney site weirdness!
