summer 2005 dates

someone posted on another cruise board that supposedly radio ads are starting to run in California saying that DCL will have 7 day Mexican Riviera cruises out of Calif for summer 2005 ... 'course they have said what radio station they supposedly heard it on.

The ships are "Disneyesque" in their external coloration and lines(OK - a few shades darker blue on the hull and you have a "mini-Magic") well sort of, and hang up a few mouse ears here and there and, voilla.

There is a year available to retrofit (look at what they did to Magic in two weeks). A little art here, a little paint there and these ships would look more Disney that the Big Red Boat did.

Just adding to the possiblilities to ponder...

Your right they do look really Disneyesque. The rooms are quite abit smaller though. I noticed an oceanview was only 140 sq ft. I think it would be great if they were doing this and we could get a ship permanently on the west coast. Im not counting on it though.

I know everyone talks about the Mexican Riviera not being so great, but I heard Puerto Vallarta is beautiful and what about a Hawaii? It would be expensive, but long. Can you imagine how wonderful that would be.

If Disney moves a ship to California, this is your chance to go on a cruise where there is really no need to get off the ship. The Pacific Ocean is so very different from the Caribbean. I live here and love it, but the beach sand is dark and the shoreline water is murky. Beautiful to walk on, but swimming is a different story. Unfortunately, there is a lot of water pollution from LA to Cabo. There also are not a great deal of water or land excursions to choose from on the west coast of Mexico. The lines that cruise down there sell mostly to adults looking for a party. They drink all the way down to Senor Frogs, party some more and then come back. I think families that are unable to travel to Florida will jump at the chance to go on a Disney cruise and they will love the ship, but I have no doubt they will be disappointed in the ports. I vote to keep it in Florida. There are plenty of new ports to visit in the Caribbean.

:teeth:

when are they going to make any announcement?
or do they just enjoy keeping us in suspsense?
BF is sold that dcl is going to build 2 ships and that one will be an alaskan itinerary...I dont know why...but those are his thoughts...

A while back I called Disney Cruise Line and was told by the person that answered the phone that a decision was to be made last week and that an announcement was to be made at their Town Hall Meeting and to the public shortly thereafter.

I called again Friday to see the results. This time the person who answered said there was no Town Hall Meeting last week and that none was scheduled and that they were told not to expect an announcement until at least June.

I explained that this story conflicted with the one by the other cast member, and she simply said no one really knows what is going on but that it would be about 2 months before any announcments.

So who knows what the true story is?????????????

the suspense is killing me!

OK Disney-what gives!

I think the whole thing is just silly! If they do know what they are going to do (which im sure they do) I dont understand why they can't just tell us, I mean whats the big deal? By the time they come out with the dates there isn't going to be great early booking savings because the cruises in question will probably be less than a year away.

Delaying an announcement is very counter productive, especially if the reason is to tie it up in one big announcement.

As mentioned above any early savers will go, there will be a big rush in bookings overwhelming their staff, and it could result in upsetting loyal regular cruisers if they cannot get their desired cabins etc.

On top of that there are two sets of people organising their 2005 summer holidays 50% hopping for California and 50% hoping for Florida and the Caribbean.

It is possible that there is a delay as they have to organise ports support staff and then decide on cost etc.

If by May they haven't announced I will be forced to consider other Caribbean cruises due to booking flights and organising work holidays etc.

And the longer they wait, the more RCCL is looking better and better.

Seriously, we were watching the Travel Channel and my dh and ds said to look into the Advernture at Sea, RCCL. They saw the wall climbing, the ice skating, the golf on board and thought maybe we should try something different. I am still hoping for DCL though. If we still decide to cruise and with another line, I would leave from NY or NJ and not worry about flying for one year. Waiting til June is just crazy.

I think we are both updating this thread at the same time, DCL is my first preference, and I feel 4 days on the Wonder is far to short.

My choice of summer 2005 is first the magic and then Carnival or RCCL.

If they are easier to book than DCL who havent decided I will have to consider them.

If we had an idea of Carribean or California, and dates it will be annoced we could all try to hold back, but I am sue a lot of early bookers will go elsewhere if they continue to delay an annoucement

As I understand the early booking discounts, it has to do with the capacity of the ship. If no one has booked yet, early booking discounts will apply. Therefore, no matter when the open up the booking, early booking discounts should apply no matter how far out the cruise is.

Again if the announcements for DL and DCL are related, it makes sense for DCL to delay making the announcment until DCL is ready to make it. I doubt they are waiting just to make everyone anxious or upset. The only thing I think they could do right now is to announce that the ship will go to the West Coast or will stay in the Caribbean, but further details will be announced in May or in June. That kind of announcment wouldn't give anything away (too much), but would satisfy the cruisers who are getting upset with not knowing.

Exactly what I think they should do and give a good indication as to the annoucement date.

I understood the EBD's go also be a percentage of the rooms sold, if that is the case they could go very fast. I read its a tier system and they step up as the ship is booked up.

I agree with the others who are looking at different cruiselines as the announcement date drags on. I'd rather go on Disney again, but I'm giving serious thought to Holland. I've always wanted to see Tortola and Holland now has that island on their Eastern itinerary. Although I would miss the Disney elements of the cruise, Tortola would be a good trade-off.

IT's going to happen pepole have ot make plans, schdule their time, I have to juggle my work, the kids school and my wifes work and book in time or someone else gets the time.

Our best offers and flights book up fast in the school holidays, and not knowing if I should book, in/out of Orlando, or in/out Los Angeles, or a mixture, or even Miami for Carnival or RCCL is a problem.

I am sure many pepole like the 'certaintly' of a trip to plan for, and DCL proves this itself by annoucing all 2005 for the Wonder and September > December 2005, for the ''Magic'', so they must know people like to book early.

It also helps their cash flow if people book direct!

I know a lot of good people 'in the know' seem ot favour Disneyland CL but I still will hold on for a while yet hoping for new carribean trips out of PC but there becomes a point when you have to book either DCL or elsewhere

I have to agree with you, Andrew. The flights in July/August will be really expensive and the thought of perhaps missing out on early booking and so missing what few bargains there are is a sickener.

Hi KEH,

Yes its a problem, focused my thoughts on DCL Next summer but fustrated with a late annoucement!

It would be interesting what percentage of the customers on DCL are from the UK. On my trip there were loads but it was our half term in October.

My guess is summer holidays Christmas Easter its a reasonable amount, of course pepole without kids or pre school can go when the like.

The Wonder may do well as its fully annouced I bet the brouchers out in a few weeks will include this but 'omit' the Magic.

In WDW it is noticable during our school holidays how many Brits are there, with all of the kids having their Virgin or other flight bags / Hats, on them

Thanks,

I now find myself checking this thread 2 or 3 times a day. I wish they would make the stupid announcement so that I can get on with a new obsession.

I called Disney yesterday and the CM told me the rates would be out the middle of next month. ( for whatever that's worth). I plan on calling every couple of weeks. Maybe enough calls will help them release the info.
