Suicide jumper pushed...you go, boyeeee.

It was the pure, unadulterated selfishness of this person's behavior that really stuck in my craw; tying up everyone else for all that time just to pretend he was going to jump, for the publicity??? It definitely IS a sign of how times have changed. People need to have their 15 minutes of fame no matter how they get it, and who knows? Maybe the guy will get a movie or a book deal out of it!

Ugh. Just ridiculous. :sad2:

And except for the pusher's statement of why he pushed the guy, there is no proof this guy was doing it for his 15 minutes of fame.

I find it a very sad commentary that there are people that support causing harm, in this case a spinal injury, to another just to "get on with their day"

Possibly being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life is a big price to pay because somebody thought you were faking your depression.

Just read the article on Comcast.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the man who pushed the mentally ill suicide jumper off of the bridge was a mentally ill (suffering for years) man who was on his way to get his medication?

One was publically looking for attention (crying out for help - however you want to look at it) in his attempt to end it all. The other was privately trying to get the help he needed.

Maybe they both deserve a little compassion. :confused3

:thumbsup2 I agree. Nothing in the story I read leads me to believe that the guy was just trying to get some media attention. I just had a close friend attempt suicide and it was devastating to all of us who love her. I can assure you she was not in her right state of mind when she did it and thank God she was found in time. I understand that this guy inconvenienced a lot of people but if he was really contemplating suicide, I doubt he was capable of thinking rationally.

I read that too - I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but personally, I thought it was hysterical. Good for the pusher!!! Go kill yourself in the privacy of your own home -don't tie up traffic - especially for something like 5 hours!!!!

no flaming by me.. I did the same thing! LOL

The potential suicide victim suffered spinal injuries from landing on a partially inflated airbag. The article I read said it was lucky he survived the fall.

I find this ironic, since considering he was going to jump to his DEATH.

Wow...your life in inconvenienced for a brief period of time. I can't believe how callous and self centered people are these days. People who attempt suicide need help, they don't need to be purposely pushed so that somebody won't miss their dentist appointment. Those of you who think it was good for him to be pushed...are you Christian or religious, because I would really like to know.

This is a link to the trailer of a documentary called The Bridge. It's about the people who commit suicide off of the Golden Gate Bridge. Maybe watching the whole movie on Youtube will give some of you some insight as to why people kill themselves.

What does being Christian or religious have to do with anything? And why would you really like to know?? Are you going to report them to the high Christian? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

No, I am wondering because it would be hypocritical for a Christian, or anybody else who is of a religious bent, to not have compassion for their fellow human beings.

You should have said the Pope, that would have made your attempt at sarcasm work better.

Let's just say the person wasn't depressed.
Maybe he wasn't contemplating suicide.
Maybe he was just looking for attention.
Maybe his whole entire purpose was to annoy drivers in the middle of rush hour.

Even if all of that is true... I still can't show approval to someone pushing him.

Nope, I think the way I phrased it was just right - shows how pointless your original question was. But thanks anyway :thumbsup2

All kinds of kindness being shown on this thread. It's heartwarming.

I don't think my original question was pointless at all. Just because you didn't understand my point doesn't mean others will not.

Your right - I don't see the point of entwining God and religion into every post on these boards.

I also don't see the point of entwining politic into every post as so many people do. I don't quite know which is sadder....

So, you find it perfectly ok for somebody to take it upon himself to decide it was now time for the guy to now fall to his death (the airbag was only partially inflated and the fall had the very real chance of killing the guy) and then push him, because you believe the suicidal guy was just thinking about it himself?

If the pusher was so inconvenienced and could reach him so easily, why did he not pull him to safety instead? Same results of stopping the suicide attempt would have been accomplished. But no, he pushed him to his possible death or grave injury, which did occur.

I find it so hard to believe that people are so heartless that they are supporting this guy's actions.

Oh- that's easy. Religion is much sadder than politics.

In this case I think it has a lot to do with it. The OP, and several others, show no compassion towards a man who attempts suicide. To be so devoid of compassion a person must not be spiritual or religious. They can claim to be but when it comes down to it they really aren't. I was trying to point out some of the old fashioned hypocracy that rears its head here from time to time. I really think that there has got to be something damaged about a person who shows no compassion towards anybody.

I think that was a rotten thing to do, push him off! He should be ashamed of himself and should go to jail I think. What a sad situation.

So OP, would YOU have the guts to push him? I doubt it

Several of us were "not showing compassion" towards a moron who was holding up traffic for no reason other than to be selfish - that was it. If this were a child, or something worth of "compassion" than it would have been shown.

I'm sorry, but if your gona kill yourself, do it - don't sit there holding up traffic for 5+ hours!!! This thing you call god and religion has no place here -take it away!

Wow. I was actually in a situation like this years ago. I was on my way to work, driving with a coworker when I saw a young man climb over the railing on a bridge that I crossed every day. I drove to the end of the bridge and pulled over. Another car did as well - a man and his wife. We had the wife take my coworker to work and the man and I went up on the bridge to talk to the young man until the police and EMTs could get there. He had just lost his job and his girlfriend and was distraught. I can say that the thought of pushing him off never crossed either of our minds. :confused3 I don't think I could ever do that to anyone. I couldn't throw a rat over a bridge no less a human.
