I am trying to convince my family that joining the DVC is a great idea. They are all sitting on the fence, mostly because the majority have never been there before. I decided I would try to rent points from someone for next year and impress them with one of the home away from home resorts to push them over the edge. The question is, which resort would impress them the most? We will be travelling with Grandparents and kids down to the age of 3. Any input anyone can give me would be greatly appriciated.

Thank You

It really depends on what type of vacation you are looking for. If your Grandparents prefer a relaxed vacation, without a lot of theme park or activity noise, I'd recommend OKW...it has the largest rooms and the quietest location. VWL is nice and rustic styled, and near to the MK for the youngsters. BWV & BCV are very close to EPCOT and the Studios, BCV also has a really nice pool.

We recently, well a month ago now (still going through withdrawls) returned from the same kind of trip. We stayed at OKW, 11 of us in all. Had my parents with dad at age 69, and twin nephews at age 5. Everything in between. The result was that my sister bought a contract, and dad just bought one yesterday. Mind you I really didn't have getting them to buy their own points on my mind when I booked the trip. I just wanted to get together in favorite place in the whole wide world. They immediately saw the value, and decided they wanted to come every year, and didn't want me to have to use my points, so they jumped in. What did it for them, I'm not quite sure. OKW is a beautiful place, with lots of room, and very relaxed which is a welcome relief from the uninititeated at WDW. I never told them once that they should consider buying points of their own, my sister mentioned it to me, and asked a ton of questions. Dad happened to come with me when I went to do my add on at SSR, and he asked for information, and yesterday he did his thing. In my opinion, DVC sold itself!!

Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is the newest and is right across the lake (and a 10 minute walk away) from Downtown Disney, West End and Pleasure Island. So if you have folks who like to shop, like to eat, like video games or like a night out, the location is prime. Plus, it's only a short bus ride away from everywhere else.

If I was really trying to impress a wide range of family, I would take them to OKW! SSR would be my second choice. Not that the other resorts are not impressive, but for that type of gathering, OKW is a wonderful choice.

They will also see how beautifully DVC maintains their resorts. OKW is the oldest and when I toured it, it was immaculate! I was very impressed and the layout of the larger units is awe inspiring.

OKW really feels like you own a vacation home at Disney. That's how I felt anyway. I love every DVC (as you can see by my multiple resort ownership LOL) but when you are trying to cater to a variety of age groups and people for one trip, I dont think you could go wrong with OKW.

Being an owner at BCV gives me a bit of bias on this subject but, to be honest, if I was trying to impress a wide range of travelers I'd pick BWV. There's just something for everyone and it's all steps away.

You know, the difference in the resorts are vast. We usually stay at VWL and have had people stay with us over the years. For my big birthday this past March we rented a 2 BR and a studio at OKW for 'the party'. Several of the same people who had stayed with us at VWL stayed with us that time at OKW.

The reactions, to me, were surprising.

One person said "Wow, this place (OKW) is GREAT! and sooooo much bigger than VWL. How come you don't always stay here?

2 people said, rather quietly to us, "this place is not nearly as nice as VWL".

3 other people didn't have an opinion either way.

But I think they all agreed that both places (and all DVC resorts) are very nice ;) .

Oops, I hope this does not sound like a 'resort war' reply!
Not my intention!

FWIW, my take on the resorts:

Best Rooms: (tie) OKW - largest rooms, SSR - most luxurious.
Best Resort Theming: VWL
Best Landscaping: SSR
Best Dining: BWV
Best Pool: BCV
*Best Location: (tie) BWV, BCV
Best Nightlife: (tie) BWV - Boardwalk, SSR - Pleasure Island.
Best DVC Point Chart: OKW

* Personally I kinda like the Downtown Disney area, but I'll yield to the majority who prefer to be in the thick of things.

I'll also add that if you will have a car during your stay, I would limit choices to either SSR or OKW. Both have parking right outside the room, and I actually found it rather cumbersome to have a car while staying at BWV.

On the other hand, if you will not have a car, go with BWV, BCV or VWL.

Our family is West Coast and have been to Disneyland a lot! We knew we were ready to travel to WDW because there were more things to do and our DD was old enough to handle the longer travel days.

We took our first Disney Cruise Sept. 2002. We went to the DVC talk on the ship and immediately knew that if we were planning to travel to WDW then our best bet would be to purchase DVC before our first trip. We talked to a few DVC members that were on the cruise and one gentleman suggested the resale market (we really wanted OKW). We came home and found The Timeshare store and had our resale bought by October!

It has been less than 2 years since we purchased and we have added on @ SSR (1 year ago). We have been on a 3 night cruise, 2 separate trips to HHI, 2 separate trips to OKW with a SSR trip in December and a GV stay scheduled for May. I figure the investment has just about paid for itself already (not including yearly maintanence fees).

DVC is wonderful! I look at staying in regular hotel rooms very differently now!
This is THE BEST item we have ever had the good fortune of purchasing!
