Suggestions on what I should charge "if" I do this..

I love making quilts although mine do not have batting in them. For Winter weight quilts I use fleece backing and summer weight I use flannel. It was inspired by a co-worker who made me one for Christmas and she used fleece.

What do you mean there's no batting in them? Are they comforter covers (duvets) then? Do you just stitch the front directly to the backing?

I made a crazy quilt bag a long time ago in Home Ec class. I loved it. I like the idea of joining an assortment of fabrics together into designs. But, I've always hated the puckery look the quilting gets where it's stitched to the batting, after it gets washed. I'd be interested in an alternate way to do them.

I'm having a quilting dilema myself. I asked my best friend if she would be interested in making a quilt (queen bed size) for me out of my Dad's shirts after he passed away. She had done one for herself out of her Dad's shirts when he passed away, so that's where I got the idea.

She said she would be glad to. And when my Mom heard of my plan, she asked my friend (who is also my Mom's friend) if she would make one for her as well. She actually made my Mom's first. It is double bed size and Mom gave her $200. Our friend seemed happy with that amount so I'm considering giving her the same, but maybe it should be a bit more since my quilt will be a bit bigger.

She would not give us a "price", said she would be happy with whatever we gave her as we have been friends for many years. But I don't want to take advantage either. I want her to be happy with the amount. So I'm still thinking...

You should pay more as it's a bigger quilt. More time will be spent and more materials will be needed, like for the backing, the thread, the batting. etc.

No they aren't covers. Basically I stitch the quilt top to the backing fabric, turn it right side out then stitch around the edge. How far out from the edge depends on the look I am going for. If I had the one picture uploaded of the one I made for a friends son I could show you He is in the Navy and she had me make him one when he graduated from one of his schools. I made it with Navy patterned, dark blue, gold and light blue fabrics then stitched three lines around the edge, red white and blue!
