Hi there,
We will be staying in a one bedroon at OKW in May. I am not familiar with the resort. Any suggestions for a room request would be helpful. It will be DH, DS4 and DS6 and me 7 months pregnant. I'm thinking close to HH and/or main pool? What do you suggest? Thanks!

You don't say what size unit you are in. I'm going to assume a 1 or 2 bedroom, and I don't think there is any GREAT advantage to being closer to HH or the main pool. We have been staying at OKW for the past 10 years, and have stayed all over the resort, and have only had one building we didn't care for, and that was building 29 which IS walking distance to HH and the main pool.

Don't forget that ANY room at OKW is close to a bus stop and EVERY bus, no matter where it is headed, will stop at HH before leaving the resort, so can be used as a quick way to get to the main pool.

Just wondering-why weren't you fond of Building 29? That's one area we haven't stayed in. We love buildings 15, 16, and 17. They're close to the HH, but just far enough away to be quiet.

When our kids were young, we always tried to stay in buildings 11-14. that way, our little ones could walk to the big pool and Hanks without crossing traffic( you kinda need a map to see how to do it). But Diane is right, one of the beauties of Old Key West is that you can find something to like about practically every location. If you don't mind being away from the main pool, the South Point area is fantastic.
good luck
John

I stayed in building 28, next to 29. It is along a fairway and the view is covered in trees and the room is dark.

If you have a car, I would recommend the Turtle Pond area, it's very quiet.

I agree, the rooms are fine in Bldgs 28 & 29, but a first floor view is abysmal. The second and third floors aren't too bad...average view for OKW, but that first floor

We enjoyed building 13 and building 62 both very much. :) The only time I wasn't happy was when we were stuck back in building 22. I felt like we were a really long walk from everything.

Luckily I havent had a "bad" location there yet. If you are at checkin at 7am it is a much greater chance they can meet your request, you may have to go and enjoy WDW for a while but it will be worth the wait especially at 7 months. It was actually a CM at OKW that told me years ago to be in line first and they could make almost any request. Good luck with your baby....I was 7 months last year when we ent at Christmas......Still loved it without the rides I love.:goodvibes

We should get there around 11, we traded a timeshare week which is Sunday to Sunday, but we already had booked unbelievable airfare which is Tuesday to Tuesday. So we won't be checking in until around 11 on the Tuesday, I don't know if that makes a difference.

It sounds like I might try for 11-14, that way DH can take the boys over to the pool or to HH while I rest without much trouble. I'm sure it will be great no matter what.

There are only three buildings at OKW that have elevators - 62, 63 and 64. None of the others have elevators and you will have to climb stairs unless you get a first floor villa. You might need to consider that. Also, know that 62, 63 and 64 and often the most requested buildings.

I have to agree with the others on Building 28. The room was fine, but we were in the first floor villa and the plants prevented you from viewing much. It may be ok for people who like seclusion and looking out on tropical plantings, but it just seemed closed in to me. I am sure the 2nd and 3rd floors are fine there. When we were there, we didn't realize how close we were to the tee. We figured the course was a ways away, but sitting on the patio/balcony, we heard a golfer curse and it sounded like he was only 20 feet away. The proximity of th tees to the building is maybe why they haven't pared down the landscaping..

Something to consider: Building numbers higher than 30 have access to the bathroom through the laundry room. In buildings lower than 30 you have to go through the master bedroom to get to the bathroom. (This is in a one-bedroom villa.)

With young children (and you being pregnant!) I would think you'd like to be off of the road. We stayed in Building 52 I think, right next to the road, and all we heard were buses day and night. Not a big deal for some people, but my DD1 and I are both light sleepers and would have gladly walked a touch further to get to a bus stop for the tradeoff of a bit more peace and quiet.

Enjoy!!!

Sounds like we might want to bring our sound machine along, just in case.

I stayed at OKW last year and I didn't know that I would be so far away from the main building/pool. We had to take a bus everytime we wanted to go to the main pool.

I would ask to get as close as possible as the general store, Olivia's, the boat launch and main pool are all in one area.

We have stayed in 63 and 64 (I think) and we really liked the location and the view. We did request either first floor or building with elevator. If I knew that we would always get one of those buildings I would be a huge OKW fan.

In addition to buildings 11-14, buildings 23-26 are great for proximity to Hospitality House. You are across from the lighthouse. You do have to cross the street, but buildings 11-14 require you to cross where the buses come and go. It's same difference IMOH. These are the areas we prefer to stay.
Enjoy your trip!!!
