HHI Vets, Can you help me out? I was wondering if someone could recommend a family-friendly restaurant for our first night of vacation? (Our kids are 3 and 5, and usually well-behaved.) We'll probably be sick of driving, so something within walking distance would be ideal. Any ideas?

I'm getting really excited for our first DVC stay at HHI in two weeks!!! :cool1:

I feel the same way when I get to HHI. I want something good, kid friendly, can walk to it and can show up in shorts and a tee shirt.

since 1998, my traditional first night meal is at San Miguels Mexican on the Marina. It is across the marina from the resort. 3-5 min walk. Kids like it. the outside seating is great. there is usually a guy playing music and singing on the keyboards. IMHO, the steak fajitas are better than most places, and their cheese enchiladas are good, (made with cheddar and a mild red chili sauce) Their salsa for the chips is really good. I do not like their taco salad. I will be eating here on 5/14 and again on 6/24.

If the weather is bad, then we have guiseppies pizza deliver to the room.

I think all the restaurants along the marina are good, like scotts, etc... but they do tend to be a little more upscale than I feel like getting ready for after a long days drive. I save these places during the week.

Also, you could ride bikes to further off places such as Hilton Head Diner and Guiseppies Pizza, Fudruckers, and Craker Barrel if the last two are still open.

We always do Giuseppe's or San Miguel's. You would have to drive to Giuseppe's, but it's like 3 minutes away. You could walk to San Miguel's. San Miguel's is right on the water, so it gets better marks for atmosphere, but both are very affordable, kid friendly places.

We have walked to Giuseppes. It is not that bad, but the kids would need a stroller. I would go to something at the Marina across the way. You can even order to go and bring it back to the villa. I know my kids like to get settled in that first night.

Thanks for asking this question. I'm just starting to plan our first HHI trip set for August. Our kids are also young. I love the idea of San Miguel's, thanks posters for sharing. We enjoy Mexican and its always a favorite for our kids. That the place is in walking distance is very cool! We'll definetly be checking it out. :)

Our family tradition for our first night is - before I leave home I make a sauce with meatballs, chicken, sausage. I freeze it and vacum seal it. We place it in the cooler for the drive down. It keeps everything cold. LOL When we arrive at HHI we defrost the sauce, grab some bread, caeser salad in a bag, wine and beer, cook up some pasta and have a good old fashioned Sunday dinner.

We usually do Giuseppe's the first night- short drive, kids always love pizza; service is fast and the folks who work there are very nice! We'll be there on 4/1; look for 2 families with 2 red heads!

I will only warn that opinions on Giuseppe's differ. We found their pizza to be inedible and were seriously disappointed after having the place built up by so many people on the boards. Our tastes are fairly mainstream when it comes to pizza and we like lots of different kinds. Giuseppe's probably ranks in the bottom ten pizzas that I have had in my life in eating pizza from coast to coast, so that is really saying something IMHO. And, it wasn't the style, either. It was the quality of the product.

Before going to Giuseppe's I had read many differing opinions here on the DIS. Having lived all my life in New Yawk, I know pizza:laughing: We gave it a shot last time; and was pleasantly surprised. No, it didn't match our local favorite Conca D'Oro, but.... it was good! We also ordered a couple of apps and dinners and they were good as well. I think it's worth a shot IMHO
(Hey, I'm on vacation, it's gotta be pretty bad for me to complain about it; I didn't have to cook it and I didn't have to clean it!:rotfl: )

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! We'll probably be checking out Giuseppe's or San Miguel's our first night. :)
