We'll be spending most of our trip at Vero Beach, but flying in a night earlier to MCO before we check in at the beach. The air tickets for Sat., Aug. 6th were much cheaper than tickets for Sun., Aug. 7th. We'll stay one night at Coronado Springs before heading to Vero Beach for the week. We have DVC AP's so tickets aren't a price consideration.

So if we want to take the Magical Express to Coronado on Sat. and then need to get a car rental car on Sun., what's the best way to do it? I'm trying to decide if it just makes sense to get a rental at MCO on Sat. and drive to Coronado or take the ME & get a car on Sun. My kids prefer ME so we'll try to accommodate them if it makes sense to do so.

If I were you, I'd try pricing this out both ways. Quite often a one-way rental (ie: pickup at Car Care Center and drop off at MCO) can be more expensive than a round trip rental from the airport (MCO).
August is high season so prices could be a bit of a shocker. Check the monthly threads to find helpful rental codes and coupons for your dates.

We are doing the same thing, except we are going to Cocoa Beach after a one night stay at Coronado Springs. We did it last year too. We take ME to our resort, then when we check in we tell them when we want to leave. Tell them you are not catching a plane, so you do not need to be there 3 hours early. They drop you off on the lower level, right where the car rentals are. We use Alamo. Walked in, used a Kiosk, then went and got our car. Super easy.
