Suggestions for a Character Meal for Adults Only

OK - probably a strange request, but our trip in January will be our first in almost 9 years. It will be myself, DH and DD, who is 19. Our last three trips always coincided with her April birthday, and we have great memories of celebrating her 4th, 7th , and 11th birthdays with the characters at Chef Mickey's, the Park Fair, the Polynesian, and the Crystal Palace. But, now that she is in college, she does not have the same April vacation as I do, so we are going for 5 days before she goes back to school at the end of January. We are staying at CSR (new for us) and want to do at least one character meal (either breakfast or dinner). We will have the dining plan with our package (which our AAA travel agent is putting together for us). As soon as I can, I want to start doing the ADR, so I am looking for suggestions for something that we haven't tried yet. The one that appeals to me is Cinderella's Royal Table. How is it? Any other suggestions? I have also heard that the one at the WL is good, too. But, as I have been out of the "Disney Loop" for so long now, I am starting to feel overwhelmed - LOL! Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

My DH and I did the character breakfast at MK's Crystal Palace and thought it was great- you will not be the only all-adults table there either (we weren't). The food was good (better than I expected and with more variety than I expected)- it was the Pooh characters- Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet. We really enjoyed it- the characters come around to all the tables- they spend just as much time visiting the "big kids" as the little ones!

My recommendation would be either 1900 park fare for dinner..or CRT for dinner.

My choices are Ohana (since it is family style, can enjoy the meal together without getting up for food) and Donald's breakfast at Tusker House (some compare the food to Boma's breakfast).

First, don't worry about being all "adults" at a character meal! We're all kids when we go to Disney

Does your DD have a favorite character? Is she a Princess girl or love Pooh Bear? Maybe Donald? What type of food do you all like? That'll play into your decision.

For Princess stuff, CRT is the ultimate because it's in the Castle. It is 2 TS credits on the DDP though. Other Princess choices are Restaurant Akershush in Norway at Epcot--breakfast is standard breakfast food served family style (all you can eat), lunch & dinner are more "Norwegian". It's good, pricey out of pocket but good deal at 1 TS credit on DDP. 1900 Park Faire has a dinner buffet with Cindy, Prince Charming, the Step Sisters and evil Step Mother. Good buffet, it is loud & crowded (tables are very close together) 1 TS credit.

Crystal Palace has Pooh & Friends at all meals, good buffet, 1 TS

Donald can be found at Tusker House at AK for a breakfast buffet 1 TS

Cape May Cafe breakfast buffet has Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale in beach attire. Very good buffet, not as crowded and loud as some others. 1 TS

Garden Grill at Epcot has Farmer Mickey, Pluto, Chip & Dale. All you can eat family style meal in revolving restaurant overlooking Living with the Land ride. 1 TS

The WL has Whispering Canyon Cafe (WCC). It is not a "character meal" but the CM's are certainly "characters" It is a loud, fun, silly place Another "fun" place would be 50's Prime Time at DHS. --both are 1 TS credit.

Just be prepared (and tolerant) that there will be children there. When my son was a baby (about 9 months old) we went to Crystal Palace for breakfast. The DDP was just starting to really take off. A group of senior citizens were at the next table. When the Pooh Parade song came on my kids (And the rest of the restaurant) waved their napkins and sang along. The members of the next table seemed very annoyed. Then the characters came. They pretty much ignored the characters. My son was so excited. He was too young to speak but would joyfully (and loudly) squeal each time a character approached. Lots of people were oooing and awing my son's reaction but not the people at the next table. As they left the one woman approached my son's infant seat and said, "YOU have a big mouth!" Right on cue my son blew raspberries at her. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all!"

PS- I would definitely suggest Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL. Lots of zany, silly fun for all ages!!!

From one 'Chelle' to another, I completely agree!!! Disney is the only place I know of where you can be a kid, no matter what your actual age may be!

So if I understand your post correctly, you've tried these:
Chef Mickey's, the Park Fair, the Polynesian, and the Crystal Palace
and you want to try something different.

As far as parks go, there is a new character breakfast at AK park in Tusker House. We haven't tried it yet (but will be in a couple weeks!) but from what I've read, it sounds like good food and entertainment.

We've eaten dinner at CRT and did enjoy the experience. Our food was above average and the entertainment was fun.

There is a princess meal in Norway in Epcot that we're also trying for the first time in a couple weeks. It sounds like it will be nice.

Not much else in the parks that I can recommend (that you haven't already tried). There is Garden Grill in Epcot and we really didn't enjoy our food, but many other people have, so to each their own. And then there is Hollywood & Vine at HS, and sorry to say but we didn't enjoy the food or entertainment very much there either. Just our opinion, though.

If you don't mind going to resorts, Cape May at Beach Club has a nice (and calm!) character breakfast. The characters are dressed in beach attire. There is no form of entertainment other than the characters going from table to table, which is why I label this meal as "calm."

My parents and my sister and I went to Disney this past February and ate at the Liberty Tree Inn. We had a late reservation and there were actually a lot of adult only tables. The characters were fun and the food was good.



** Oh wait I just saw that you were going the end of January, they might be doing away with the characters at that point...sorry.
