Suggest a good kids' gift experience

I'm hoping to convince my best friend that we shouldn't buy gifts for each others kids this year and go the "experience" route instead. If love to take the four of them somewhere fun to spend some time together instead. They are 7 and 6 year old boys, and 5 and 3 year old girls. I doubt her husband will come because of a recent injury so that gives my husband an easy "out" not to go either. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Kids science or nature museum

The zoo is always a hit

Have an 'indoor campout' if it's too cold outside. Sleeping bags, flashlights, movie, s'mores.

Local kids theater Christmas play, followed by homemade sundaes with cool toppings

Cookie making party - have a couple of doughs pre-made. Kids come over, cut out cookies, decorate, take some home.

Inflatables places or open gym at a gymnastics place. They get to run around like maniacs and it wears them out. My kiddos love these places!

One of our favorite activities with a family that has kids the same age as ours is making gingerbread houses. We do it every year and we all look forward to it.

I agree with the zoo completely! We adopted an animal for SIL family andgot them stuffed animals and lunch money for the zoo.

For us, we don't have a zoo near, but we do have kids hands on museums.

My favorite activity with the kids are cheap movie and special meal (picnic, restaurant (fast or TS), or even at the house--go shopping together for ingredients).

Are there any train rides in your area? Some trains do themed rides for holidays that my kids love. DS18 still loves trains and I get him tickets for some kind of train ride every year.
