Suffering from Verandah Man Withdrawl

thanks for letting us know how your meet went, Shirley & Norm. I'm so glad you were able to meet Captain Verandah, and the gang... Andy is, at this moment, probably up and roaming the Radisson hallways, waiting for his ship to come in....

My turn is coming soon!!

Im usually a lurker here on this board, but Id love to jump in and make friends. (Im sooo lonely)
Anyway, I hope Andy has a good time,

Don't lurk! Just jump right in and chat! We are a pretty nice group of cruisers - it's going to be quieter without Buckaroo's Dad who is returning from his cruise today and verandah man who leaves today - but when they get back on line, well, the threads start a hoppin'!

So jump on in and welcome!

Shirley - you are so kind to do that! Yes, after many private e-mails and calls to and from Andy and Hazel, I find both of them to be honest, friendly and just plain GREAT people. They are the way they are and God love 'em, they are terrific.
And so are you for doing that for them!!!!
Glad you told Andy about this thread - it will give him something to do besides "catch up" and "work" when he returns from his cruise!

Laura - you are so right - NOW I know how it feels to be "left behind" when a fun group of people are going off on a cruise. It makes me want to get a job on the ship and always be there....but then again, that entains a FOUR letter word and like Maynard G. Krebbs from "Dobie Gillis" - "WORK"!

Got a last minute note from Andy yesterday before he left......spoke with them, but still.......yes, I can imagine that he is walking around the hotel this morning waiting for the shuttle and just wearing an ear to ear smile! In 2 hours, he will be at the Magic and then the fun starts!!!!!!!!!

Andy is standing at that curb, waiting to go:D I hope Hazel isn't looking for him, because he is READY TO GO! I would bet my paycheck that he is more excited than his daughter is:D It's funny how we are thinking for him today. When I got up, I went to the webcam and checked the weather. I said a prayer to allow nice weather for Capt. Verandah and crew:D I pray for perfect weather the whole time, because he deserves the best that DCL can give, including a smoothe sail.. He will enjoy everything 200% anyway:D Andy, have fun, and we miss ya

ps...Is anyone capturing the picture for him of when the ship passes 3palms? I know he likes to have shots of that since it has the date and time the ship passes. I don't know how to capture it , does anyone? Can you just right-click on the image and do a "save-as?"

I was just thinking... We all know that on 9/6, Andy will be JUST AS EXCITED for Nate and his family as he is right now for himself. I can see him now being soooo happy for the Page family as if it were himself going. He is that kind of person. Can't you just see it?:D He will probably do his famous "count-down" for Nate too!
I will not be surprised.:D

A true measure of a person's sincerity is when they are just as happy for someone else's good fortune as they are their own.

I have been active on the board for abut nine months now, and ever since the Verandah man started his double digit dance, you could tell he had the excitement of a 10 year old.

When you saw how he treated the Page family (sp.?), with kidness and dignity and selflessness, you knew he had a giant of a heart.

I think a little bit of all of us is in that terminal with Andy right now.

God's Speed, Andy.

It's amazing how someone can just take away your heart! Last night I sat and read all of Andy's thread..the official thread.hehe. From the first post, you could tell this guy was special. I've been on these boards for a little while, and I loved reading the background! Andy initially had a verandah, then downgraded so he could bring his niece and sister. What a wonderful guy!

Then, getting his upgrade! Wow! His excitement and gratitude was so endearing.

All the hard work he put into getting everyone together for Dis-meets and wearing green Mickey stickers, he is spreading joy everywhere he goes. He had pictures of everyone, lists of family members, their ages. Everyone was busy hooking up with each other.

Then, there's Nate Page. Ok, now I'm crying. Enough.

God bless you, Andy. You bring out the best in everyone.

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." author unknown

These very words under Verandahman posts says it all about him. He truly enjoys life.
Dreamer04....You got me going back to his posts also. What a guy. Did you see the one where he got bit by the dog when he was reading the meters? He mentioned the big bruise on his leg, then jumped right back in his excitement about the trip! I had also forgotten how he gave up that verandah(without a 2nd thought) so his neice could go. Ane he did not tell this so that people could pat him on the back, he said it because he had orriginally been posting his room on the 7th deck, so he wanted to let the people in his group know that it had changed. Like you said, he is a generous and guinuinely nice man who deserves the best.

That is indeed Andy, I recognize the hat :)

I hope the cameraman didn't get blinded by Andy's smile when he tried to take their photo. I'm sure he was beaming!

I sure hope he and all the other 8-23 cruisers have a MAGICal time.

And Buckaroo's Dad - if you're reading this - welcome back - we missed you too!

I was such a pleasure to meet Verandah Man last night at the Radisson. He is in person, just like here on the boards. A wonderful person. His family was great. I followed him to Avis so he could drop his car off, then brought him back to the Radisson to take the shuttle to Port. BD met us all by the pool. Andy has a perfect picture he'll post when he returns just for Jeanny. He told me he didn't sleep last night, and his room faced port, so at 5:15 he saw the Magic coming in. He even woke poor Hazel up to tell her. They got the first shuttle out, and then I took the last of the ones I met up with TriciaT's husband out to port. I wanted to park my car, and try to smuggle myself on board. Oh well, I'm here instead. I was going to hang around to watch the Magic sail, but we have been getting alot of rain here in Florida, and thought I should get back home instead. I don't really think we will hear from Verandah man, Hazel was going to try and keep him away from the Internet cafe, and BD told him just to enjoy the ship, and we'd all be waiting for him on his return.
I hear there is now a Verandah Man fan club, how do we join???

Didn't get to the end of this thread to see if anyone replied to this question, but I just got a capture of the ship in port and will do my best to capture it on Two Palms. Is there any place else I may be forgetting?

I took two pictures of the screen at 17:30PM when the Magic crossed the two palms camera. Someone has to show or tell me how to post it. It is on my Sony mavica cd digital camera.

YEA!!

Just saw them going by twopalms, captured a couple of pictures for them... camera is on a 10 second delay now... so I was able to get the first part, 2nd and butt end of the ship. I saw Hazel & Andy on the top deck......waving his hat!!

I'm so excited for them!!! Hope everyone is having a MAGICAL time!!

Lynn, first I want you to know it was a sincere pleasure meeting you last night at the Radisson - I am very sorry Norm and I had to leave - unfortunalty my SIL lost both and only brother and sister and I knew I was facing a huge heartache of going to the double funeral and needed to try and get to bed as early as possible - anyhow I received a call from Andy from "his" veranda and having the time of his life - it appears all that he hoped for had become a reality - he is taking notes and will posted it all as soon as he is able .
He is in very good hands - he and his family needed this getaway to recup from some tramas -----
Meanwhile everyone have a great weekend and most of all be safe.
Always
Shirley

Hey In charge,

I got some pictures too and sent them to Andy's home email... but Mark was able to get the wicked cool pictures!!

Melody - loved that shot of "BD" running to get back on the Magic!!!

Nice pictures!!!! I think one of them has Andy waving a shrimp at me.

Shirley, so sorry to hear about the loss in your family. How tragic for your SIL and how heartbreaking for the rest of you to have to go through this. God bless you all.

I am sure Andy is having the time of his live - I just hope those who are cruising with him know how special he is to all of us and take good care of him.
