Suffering from Verandah Man Withdrawl

Andy -- sad to see that your trip is coming to an end, but we're all anxious to read your report! :)

BTW...I thought Disney Dreams was on Castaway Cay day? Is this a change?

Ditto on what Cruisin Disney said.

Castaway Cay day is the Farewell variety show on the 7-day. Disney Dreams is Thursday night.

Andy - I thought the 7th and the 21st were the same price? How much of a difference is it if I'm incorrect in my recollection?

Gometros: The current difference in price is $760 for 2 adults in cat 11. I was just on the phone with DCL regarding another matter and asked.

Thanks for clarifying that. Funny, I thought it was the September and October cruises that had the bigger savings. Shame, since it makes it harder for us to try and convince VM to join our cruise and most of us going on the August 7th can't go any later due to school commitments. Btw, we're already up to 11 families and there still just shy of a year to go.

Gometros: you made me curious about the price difference. I didn't think that there was such a difference between the 8/7 and 8/21 cruises either! As it happens, we are booked on the 8/7 and 8/21 cruises (I booked both last June to give us options closer to the cruise date). For 2 adults on the 8/7 cruise, the price difference between booking two months ago and now (same category) is $520. There is no difference in price for the 8/21 cruise. Thus, the price difference between the 2 cruises if booked in June would only have been $240 for 2 adults (a lot less than the current $760 differential).

Is that $760 difference the onboard booking price or the regular price?

So, which one you gonna do? :)

My understanding is that there is no difference in price when you book on-board. When you book on-board, you get the shipboard credit. I'm pretty sure that this price difference is due to timing and cabin availability (booking earlier).

Regarding your second question, my immediate family and I plan to sail on the 8/21 cruise. The timing works well for us because school doesn't start until after Labor Day. Between the shipboard credit and price difference, I hope to have some of our shipboard bills covered - LOL! I am also hoping that others will join us (Marcotta & ThreeCircles - are you reading this?!). It will be a blast sailing again with fellow 8/16/03 cruisers and now Verandah Man!

Don't know about the 8/7 cruise yet. Our extended families (my vote is for Disney) are considering an Alaskan cruise next year. I wish DCL had an Alaskan cruise route - then it would be no problem having our family reunion on DCL!

Okay Sandy: I have to stop reading your posts. They make me think and I need to concentrate on things other than DCL! :D

I just spoke to Constance at DCL reservations to get clarification about on-board booking discounts and perks. There is a new promotion effective 08/25/03, that on-board bookings for 2004 7-day cruises will receive 10% off the prevailing EBS (Early Booking Savings) rate and the $200 shipboard credit. I asked if cruises booked on the 8/16/03 sailing were eligible for this discount and the answer is no. This promotion is only valid for cruises booked on-board on or after 08/25/03. She does not know how long this promotion will last.

So, if anyone is cruising in the near future and already has a booking for 2004, you may want to check to see if the new on-board promotion brings down the price of your 2004 cruise. If it does, consider rebooking on-board and cancelling your current reservations.

Just consider it providing a public service :teeth:

I've booked September 2 - and with Three Circles going, it's hard to change that.....after all, my sons are my sons!

Might have to do some talking with the boys and figure this one out -

What say you, Jason and Travis?

It's 8:10am.....Captain Veranda and Family have probably already disembarked the ship......Do you think we'll hear from him today?

Hi Sonya,

I hope we do hear from him today. But, he'll probably be exhausted. Just the constant adrenaline rush all week will be enough to make me want to some home, lay on the couch and pass out!!

I think they're stopping at Dixie's Crossroads, Lyn mentioned meeting them up there, for MORE shrimp!!! I doubt if we'll hear from him until the minute he walks into his house.

I just checked the PC cam and it's pointed the other way again...no Magic on screen now, Andy has left the ship.

Love those smilies, Nick

:jester:

If we don't hear from Andy - I am pretty sure that Lynn will write us and let us know some of what he said!

Seems like it's going to be a long wait til I hear from Hazel!

Here, I am with the Verandah Man update.
He tried to hang on chanting "Heck No We Won't go", but he got off, and headed to Dixie Crossroads for a Rock Shrimp feast. I met up with the family there.
They had a Marvelous time, altho Andy lost his glasses on the banana boat ride. He's been blind since.
They loved cruisin Disney, and can't wait to go back. They were given a priority boarding, and even the Manager of the Cruise Terminal came up to meet them. The DVC checkin was by Tanya, who yelled to all "I get to check in Verandah Man". He said he took over 400 pictures, and bought the package to.
They had a great time, and kept running into fellow diser's. They should be back home in New Jersey about 10:30 tonight, so he may try starting that trip report. He did say he tried to leave some shrimp for the next cruisers. And Hazel is getting worried about the fan club. She's afraid his head may get bigger and he won't make it in the front door.
Later,
Lynn

One word of warning to the VM watchers...................the Eastern coast is experiencing some pretty violent storms so our Andy may be delayed.

thanks for letting us know how your meet went, Shirley & Norm. I'm so glad you were able to meet Captain Verandah, and the gang... Andy is, at this moment, probably up and roaming the Radisson hallways, waiting for his ship to come in....

My turn is coming soon!!

I stopped reading this thread long enough to post, then I will get back to reading. I was awake at 5:15am on August 23rd and saw the Magic as it was coming up the channel, I also got very misty eyed watching it dock, then I woke my DW up so that she could see it as well.

Our room at the Radisson (which was extremely nice and clean) was on the 3rd floor facing the port!!! Someone knew I would be up early, and would want to see the Magic sail up the channel!!! Who could that have been???

A true measure of a person's sincerity is when they are just as happy for someone else's good fortune as they are their own.

I have been active on the board for abut nine months now, and ever since the Verandah man started his double digit dance, you could tell he had the excitement of a 10 year old.

When you saw how he treated the Page family (sp.?), with kidness and dignity and selflessness, you knew he had a giant of a heart.

I think a little bit of all of us is in that terminal with Andy right now.

God's Speed, Andy.

Thank You So Much for these kind words, even though I am back home in my own cozy little part of the world, these kind words have brought tears to my eyes.

To be perfectly honest with all of you, I truly wish everyone that was, or is, going on a Disney Cruise could have the excitement of a 10 year old, and I'm just excited about my cruise now, as I was before I left. There is something truly "MAGICal" about a Disney Cruise, and if you don't have a great time, it's "NOT" Disney's fault!!!

Just thinking back on this week, brings tears to my eyes yet again. Yes, my family received some special little gifts, that others might not receive, but with each little something that came our way, my DW and I, were in awe. We really didn't expect anything special, nor did we feel like we were deserving of anything special. Like I stated in a thread some weeks back, my mother and grandmother instilled in me, not only to believe in the "Golden Rule" but to "Live It" as well.

I am so excited for Nate and his family, I know they will have the time of their lives. I would love to be a fly on their cabin wall during their cruise.

I also must "THANK" some very kind DIS'ers myself, when we went to check out, we found that a few of you had sent in some onboard credits for us, it was greatly appreciated, and we were so surprised. Some of my fellow DIS'er cruisers bestowed us with some wonderful surprises, which will be in my trip report as well. I am truly humbled by your generosity.
