Success with Developer Points?

We are about to be new members of DVC (AKL), Woohoo! Part of our deal is the matching developer points to use within one year. I was wondering what success those that have used these bonus points are having...We are hoping to use them in April at SSR. I know this is a very busy time. I would love to hear from yall!

We signed our papers and turned them in on July 3rd, I made an inital reservation of 4 days then, but last week I changed it to the full week of September 27 -October 4th with no problem. We are only getting a studio because its only me and my husband though.

I recieved developer points in June and I was able to make reservations for two separate trips in September with no problem. It was 2 1/2 months out.

Great news!! We are going to sign our paperwork sometime next week so we still can't make ressies yet.I am really hoping we can get the week we want. It is harder because of my DD age 12's school schedule, ugh! BTW, how did yall get the AKV image on your signatures??

Welcome Home!!! We are just up the road from you in Mississippi. So far, we have only briefly discussed driving to WDW because the airfares seem to be holding at the same level. Checking into October, I see no change.
How do you see airfares down your way or do you drive to Orlando?

Hi! i just checked airfare in apr 09 from baton rouge to orlando and it was $517 a ticket!!! There is no way we are flying at that price. In the past, we have driven. It is a long drive (about 12 hrs without stops). I personally like to stop about 1/2 way so we aren't totally beat on the day of check-in. I can't wait to get our membership finalized. I think the soonest we can book is 7 months out with the developer points, right? That would be sept for our apr trip.

The funny thing about airfares is that you can only get a true picture of the lowest airfares about three months out. I suggest that you look at the same airfare in say mid-October to get an idea of what they really go for close in to your departure. For our pairings, Mem-MCO, the March airfare goes for about $370.00 whereas the October airfare goes at $220.00.
But again, it all depends upon who competes to Orlando from your city. In most cases, you are correct; driving is much cheaper.
I am considering it myself since we have a Prius that gets 50 MPG on the long haul. I just have to convince DW that the 13 hour drive will be over bewfore she knows it. It does seem that a stop about 1/2 the way there is sensible.

We have been thinking of buying a Prius for my DH. I don't know if we could give up the space of our Odyssey for a drive to Orlando, tho, (we are so spoiled for all that room, LOL) The drive to Orlando doesn't seem so bad but driving back always feels sooo looonngg!! It must just be the reluctance to leave DW!

We just bought a 100 add on at the AKL...We received 100 developer points that we must use at SSR...I am calling on Tuesday to book our trip for next July...I hope I can book at 11 months with the developer points...

Anyone know for sure?

7 mos out to book Developer Points or at least that is what our contract says. We will also be booking for next June, really hoping for availability!

We could only use our AKV developer points at the 7 month mark. We just used them to book 2 rooms at the Disneyland Resort for October!!

Developer points can be used starting at the 7 month mark. I called on 7-21 to book our stay at SSR fro 2/21-2/27. The room was given a hold. A manager had to book the room for me. I was told it would take a few days to get it booked, but the room was guaranteed with the hold. I got a confirmation number 2 or 3 days later.
