How the heck are these people supposed to get the FISH down off the ceiling if they die? How are they supposed to feed them? I just came in and only saw the ending, I OBVIOUSLY missed something.

I would have put the fish planters on the counter. This is an old trick that I see lots of times in doctor's offices etc. The fish live off the plant and the plant supplies oxygen for the fish. I thought they looked pretty puny up on the ceiling though.

I liked the fish/plant combo, but didn't like the location; they'd have been better hung at varying lengths closer close to a wall. Where they ended up being just looked....weird. I really liked the room overall, though. :) very peaceful!

There is a post from the homeowners on the trading spaces board. The fish are fine, not sure how they are feeding them but they found out what they needed to know and have fish in other parts of the house.

Are any of the homeowners from this week's episode posting here?

There is lot's of controversy about the misinformation about the fish. You can read lots of it there.

I enjoyed Paige's Disney twist :) Notice the Circle of Life reference ? We saw her husband playing Scar a couple of weeks ago. Quess she's pretty familiar with that story.

That was on the whole an awesome episode. Even DH liked the rooms, esp. the sand table room. Now the episode on Sat. night with the 450 sq. ft. bedroom  with walls Hildy had them paint to look like baby poop....yuk!
Robin M.

Oh Robin, was that the UGLIEST room you've seen or what? Pink carpet with pea green walls (if they couldn't have done anything about the carpet, couldn't Hilda at least TRIED to compliment it a bit?). But wait, we haven't seen the upcoming episode with in which Hilda has a self portrait of herself done on a whole wall (I am not kidding). It's all done with dots and color and looked like Mary Tyler Moore or "That Girl" was on the wall.

I liked the fish idea hanging from the ceiling. The whole idea was to give the homeowners a "beachy" kind of room and the fish (which are supposed to be able to feed off the plants) added to that.

I just LOVE Trading Spaces.

I saw that episode, too, and thought it strange to put the fish up on the ceiling like that. But, I loved how they installed hardwood floors instead of the ugly carpeting.

I didn't like the floor in the other people's house in the kitchen. It was too 70's (too dark) for me.

My dh loves to watch this show, too, and then he finally admitted to me why. He is madly in love with Paige!!! I admit, she's cute, but not that drop dead gorgeous. Maybe it's her perkiness he likes. Who knows? Men are weird.

Despite that, I will still watch it. It's fun to get ideas for my own house.

I missed it. What was the deal with the fish on the ceiling? I don't understand. Could someone explain it to me?

I love the series, but I would have second thoughts about letting some of those designers in my house.
:p

MerryP, Designer Vern Yip did a "beach" theme for this couple's living room. Apparently they love the shore, but also needed space for their kaoroke passtime (that's why there was a big empty space/stage area at the end of the room). He had the walls in a sandy color and also a light ocean blue color. He made a coffee table with a small sand box in it (that could be removed) that featured sand & shells. Instead of hanging plants he had 3 small hanging fish bowls that were supposedly self sustaining (apparently there is now some controversy over this on the trading spaces board at TLC), there was water, a small fish and then a plant that the fish were supposedly able to feed off (it was a very "circle of lifey"). They were hung from the ceiling. They were very small. From what I could tell the homeowners LOVED it (especially since they got a cool new floor and HUGE cabinet for their cds and stuff).

You have to remember that Trading Spaces is less of a home improvement show and more of a game show/entertainment show. Plus these things are heavily edited.

If Hildi came to my door...I would shoot her rather than let her touch one square inch of my place....

She's not a disinger, she's a traffic accident who loves the sound of her own voice.

I have one of these Betta fish bowls (more of a vase) I got for Sweatest Day last year. My fish is doing well and I loved that Vern added that to the room. Mine has a plastic dish that the plant sits in with a whole in the bottom for the roots of the plant and the plant stays put with some black gravel around it. The whole thing comes out to add fresh water or feed the fish every so often.

Not only Paige, but let's not forget Amy Wynn Pastor. :)

Doug? Lets see TY!!!!!

DH thinks Paige is "hot" too! Do yall see the flirting between Paige and Doug??

back to the topic of the fish. DH and I scoffed at the "self-sustaining" fish. DH mother got one of these betta's w/ the vase and plant as a gift a couple of years ago, on the assumption that she would need to feed the fish, because it would live off the plant. WRONG-O. The fish died and I think she went to a pet store and got the truth- she needed to feed the fish.

Now climbing a ladder to drop a few flakes of food into a vase hanging from the ceiling is one thing... who wants to climb up there to take it down for cleaning. DH's only thought? What about the fish droppings that are certain to lay at the bottom of the vase that is seen from the family room?

I really liked the way Vern and his couple finished the beach-side room. They really opened it up and stached all their karaoke stuff and the tv. As for Hilda...what WAS she thinking when she bought that paint? I understand she bought all the fabric in India, but she said the room would be designed around the ugly pink carpet. I didn't think anything matched the carpet and I can't believe she painted their white-washed bedroom furniture.

and hey picture poster- where's our man Ty?

Here's Ty, not a flattering picture! lol
