Hi
I wasn't going to write this, but today must be stupid dog owner day. First let me state: I LOVE DOGS. I just don't love stupid dog owners. I have 2 dogs, a rott/husky mix 7years old and a white/tan german shepard 5 months old. My dogs are both up to date on shots, well socialized with animals and people, one is fully trained with commands and the other is in trainning. I have dog licenses for both. I have them in a very large back yard with a 6ft fence. With that being said this is what happened today:
I had my sewage hooked up to city sewage on friday and there were workiers that don't want to meet my dogs. I do not press my dogs on anyone I wait for them to ask if they can pet them. So there were a couple guys who don't like dogs and I would take my dogs in the front section of the yard that wasn't dug up to let them do their business. Well, the city inspector didn't make it out on friday to iinspect the new line, so the dogs once again had their backyard, well part of it.
Today the city inspector comes and gives the new line the ok, but now the guys have to cover up the big trench and fill in the septic tank. So this afternoon, both dogs are on leashes and DD7 and I are out with them in the front yard. We have these young G.I. neighbors who rent the house and let 1 particular dog roam all over, but this was a different dog a America bull dog. I saw this dog from my front yard run over to us. I had never seen this dog before-it is hard to keep up with all the people over there-this dog is coming at us. I am yelling for them to come get their dog. The guy just stands there and yells at the dog. Dog comes over to my dogs, my big dog is alpha over the bulldog, so bull dog tries to mess with my puppy, my big dog doesn't go for that. I am still yelling for this guy to get his dog. The dog acts like he is going to leave and then goes towards my daughter,he wasn't growling but he wasn't giving the happy face either. My big dog goes in between the dog and my daughter and goes after the dog for trying to get to my daughter and that is my dog's job is to protect.
Finally the guy comes over and he says he was sorry. I tell to put the dog on a leash or the next time the dog won't be so lucky. The dog had no leash, no collar dont know when the dog had shots. Then the guy was like he was going to call the police on me fpr threatening his dog and I told him I should kick his === for not being responsible for his dog. I told him to go right ahead because I had the couple workers had come over and tried to get the dog away from me and daughter with rakes.
I HATE STUPID DOG OWNERS!!!!!!!!!!!! THere was a case recently where 1 bulldog attacked another dog and the owner of the attacked dog stabbed the bulldog, but the bulldog was in quarantine and escaped, but the attacked dog owner didnt' get any charges for trying to protect his dog. I love animals, but I would have no trouble doing harm to one if it came down to my DD, myself or my dogs.

I HATE it when people don't have their dogs on a leash! I end up having to pick up my little dog every time I see one and people act like I'm nuts - "Oh, he wouldn't hurt a fly!" etc.

My dog thinks she's big. She will growl and basically challenge any dog she comes across that she feels threatened by - that includes unrestrained dogs romping over to play - and all of sudden that big "wouldn't hurt a fly" dog is attacking her!

I have also had the experience of neighbors letting their dog wander into my yard and stand there ignoring the screams of me and my children to come get their dog. There are currently several dogs in my neighborhood without fenced yards that come charging everytime I try to walk my dog. Not pleasant.

My mom lives in York County and she told me about that incident when I talked to her this weekend. She also told me about the mailman attack. WHat I don't understand is when these dogs attack, usually the owners will blame the person or other animal they attack (they don't smell right, looked at them wrong, was wearing a hat, etc). And usually when the dog has been placed in custody, the owners will be shown on tv petting their dog through the cage saying "See, he/she is not a vicious dog. My 3 year old plays with him/her." :sad2: Doesn't prove a thing.
