Stupid credit card question

Okay, this is probably a stupid question...

Our cc payment for August was due 8/6. I paid it. I then made two more payments on that card this month, as I'm trying to pay it off. The second payment will go through on 8/27.

My next scheduled payment is 9/15. Do the two extra payments I made this month count as making that scheduled payment (just early)? I'm asking because I could use what I would pay on the card on 9/15 to help buy wood for the winter.

I just don't want to have a late payment!

Probably. If it was after the next statement came out then yes. And the statements come out about a month before the bill is due.
Do you have online access to the account? If so take a look. If it says $0 due on September 15 then yes, it counted.
Since the next payment is going in a few days I would guess that it will count as the September payment.

Like sissy ib said...check online if you have online access to your account. It should say 0.00 due on September 15th. I've never had a card that the extra payment didn't count towards the monthly bill, but extra payments were usually made within a week or two of the next payment due date.

Yes, as sissy said - as long as the new statement came out before you did. I do this all the time to avoid finance charges, making several payments before the due date. It's a good thing to do!

Why are your payment due dates on different dates,I thought a law went in requiring credit cards to give you the payment due dates on the same day every month. To answer your question I have a credit card that's due on the 15th of the month.I know that if I make a payment anytime from say August 19th through September 18th which is like three days after the due date it will all be in the same period and on September 19th the finance charges will be charged and it will give me a new payment that will be due October 15th.Basically I know there's like 3 days after the due date that still goes to the previous period.Every card's dates will be different so you would just have to figure those dates out if you wanted to make an extra payment that will count as your next payment.Call the cards account info phone number to see when the first day the next payment info will show.

For my card they would not - unless you made one of them after the billing cycle that requires a payment by 9/15 had ended already.

Like, if the billing cycle is the first of the month to the 30th of the month, say, with a payment due on the 15th (I'm just making this up), meaning that month's billing cycle closes on the 30th and you have 15 days to make the payment for it.

Then if you paid on the 15th, the 20th and 25th, those payments would NOT count toward next month's payment due.

If you paid on the 15th, 25th and the 2nd of the next calendar month, that last payment would count, because it was made in that next billing cycle. Make sense?

As the pp said, check to see if it still shows or check when it pops up with the 15th as the due date, if the amount due is a 0 balance or an actual balance. If it's 0, you're good. If it's $, your payments were all in that one cycle and don't count toward the next.

each is different so need to cal them. Most do not see extra payment as "paying ahead for the next month" so be sure and check. I have one card that if I pay more than one payment it goes directly to the balance before interest

+1

Usually making two payments during one billing cycle will not satisfy making the minimum payment for the next billing cycle.

In other words the minimum payment has to be received within the billing cycle that contains the due date, (and not after the due date and time itself).

Call your credit card company. If the credit card cycled before you made the extra payment, then you should be fine. However, if you made the extra payment before the card cycled, then that payment would be in the previous cycle, and you would still have to make a payment this month. Another way to check is to look at your credit card statement-if the extra payment showed up, and you have a payment due, then your extra payment was early, and you will still need to make a payment this month.

Better safe than sorry, late charges can be very expensive.
