ok - so i have never been to WDW with a very young child. took DS first when he was 5 (fully potty trained, so no diapers needed and wore a swim suit when at pools and fountains.)

now that i have a one year old daughter, i am wondering about a few things.....

i am not an idiot, i understand that at pools she will have those special swim diapers on. under her suit or in place of her suit (swim diaper and a tee shirt). what i am wondering about is the fountains/spray areas in the parks. of couse then i will have her in swim diapers as well, but what do you folks do about a suit? do you bother for one so young? i know that little girls should cover up their top portions at a certain point, but when? would i be offending anyone if my 1 year old daugher was in a swim diaper and nothing else while playing in the fountains/sprayers?

i want to keep it simple, but i also don't want to take the chance of offending anyone.

(i hadn't even considered that it might offend anyone, but my DH brought it up, so i figured i better ask.)

Hi!

I thought you said Stupid Children and Swimwear question  To tell you the truth I don't think a tiny 1 year old will offend anyone at all. We were at Typhoon Lagoon just a couple of days ago and there was a 6 year old girl without a top....I think you will be fine. You might want to put a t-shirt to protect her from the sun though... :sunny:

Just a swim diaper is fine! That way you can just throw it away and not worry about dragging around damp clothes.

Knowing the wacky world we live in, you might offend "somebody" but who cares...she's a baby! Let her have fun and don't worry about it. :goodvibes

Okay....I can't answer your question about swimwear.....but with my 3 children, I have become an expert on "stupid children"..... :rotfl:

Just kidding of course....... :rolleyes1

As far as your "real" question goes.....In my very humble opinion, I think with a 1 year-old, you would be fine either way. I have seen many young (1 year-olds) girls playing in the fountains with just the swim diapers.

If it were me, I would just pack a few swim diapers AND a suit. Just in case....

I would never think twice about seeing a 1 year-old little girl playing in the fountains with just the swim diapers. But other people might not.....but to each their own.

hmmm.......I don't think I was any help at all.......maybe I should stick to my specialty.....stupid children....

I agree don't worry about offending anyone, but the tshirt might be good to avoid the sun. I'm sure you will put sunscreen on her in the morning, but in case you forget to do her stomach and back you then have the shirt to cover with. Then just bring a zip-lock bag to throw it in after she is done.

I am the paranoid mom because there are so many sickos out there.

I have a 4 yo dd & a 22 mo ds. I always keep my kids covered but that is me.

I would think a child at 1 would not offend anyone. I know I wouldn't let my 4 yo run around top less.

But I would keep her bottom covered & be discreet if you are changing her into a swim diaper. I mean don't change her in the middle of the walk way, go into the bathroom or a secluded spot. Give her some privacy too-see paranoia comes out in me again.

ITA. But I also agree with taking a tshirt and ziploc baggie to put it in when shes done playing. Baby skin is so tender and depending on how fair her skin is, sunscreen may not be enough. Have a great trip :)

Great question. I am glad to see it really didn't open up a can of worms. I agree that it should be a nonissue. enjoy, live it up, and if it offends somebody...well, lets just say, it is too bad.

it would not offend me at all. But I wouldn't do it if it were my child. At home yes public no. To many sickos watching kids today. Modesty prevails at our house

It wouldn't offend me at all. I can't say I've ever done that but that's because anytime we're around water (pool, water park, etc.) and have a baby in swim diaper- they are prepared in a swimsuit. In other words we've never had a baby young enough to need a swim diaper and then all the sudden come across a fountain spray area- unprepared with a swimsuit. Yanno? But I think a young baby like that wouldn't offend me at all. Honestly even much older than that wouldn't offend me but I wouldn't do it with my child (for the reason mentioned already on this thread). But that doesn't mean if someone else had a 4yr old girl without a top in the water it would offend me... not in the least. (I may wonder in my head what they are thinking if they have an older girl topless... but keep it to myself LOL)

It wouldn't offend me at all. My dd has been a self proclaimed nudist all of her life. This is the first year I can get her to keep her swimsuit on. :rotfl: You can never make anyone happy, so let her have fun. I saw a comment here a while back where someone was offended by little girls wearing bikinis.

If someone is offended, they shouldn't look, she's just a baby.

I agree about a little one that young would not cause offense. I also agree about having her wear a shirt for sun protection, in addition to sunblock, and a hat. I think I have read somewhere about sunblocking clothing, you may want to check into this. You like already know this, but overcast days are at least as dangerous as far as sun exposure as sunny days.

All of these precautions having been said, I hope you and your family have a lot of fun on your vacation! :)

I think that for as young as one year - a swim diaper & plenty of sunblock is fine. But if you are at all hesitant - for whatever reason - you could always put an extra t-shirt in your bag, then just wring it out and put it in a ziplock bag when she's done. Or even lay it out on the back/top of the stroller to dry. Have fun!

I think one year old children can go topless! And she will likely fit right in, I saw many toddlers in swim diapers and nothing else last April when we were at WDW in the resort pool (POR) and fountains. I have also seen children much, much older (7 or 8 at least) completely naked in the fountains at Epcot. I believe some countries/cultures look at swimming and the need to be clothed while doing so very different than we Americans do! My kids were very embarrassed to see peers their own age naked like that but it didn't bother those kids one bit. Different strokes for different folks!

:rotfl2: Count me in with the people who thought this was a post about "stupid children" :rotfl2: The tears are streaming down my face as I laugh about why I was drawn to read a thread about stupid children and their swimwear.........What, exactly, was I expecting to read about???????? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Okay, I confess, I too was wondering what "stupid children" were wearing to swim in!! :rotfl2:

As for the OP's original question, I cannot imagine anyone being offended by a diaper only 1 year old! Go for it and have a great time - but like everyone said - be sure to sunscreen! :sunny:

If anyone has a problen with a baby going top-less than they are the one WITH a problem. Let her be a baby and have fun, just listen to everyone and watch out for that Florida sun, We live in the South and it can burn you quickly.

I'm sorry... I just had to post... on first glance this looked like a thread about "stupid children!" I was like, "What the heck??!?!?"
:rotfl2:
Edited to add: Wait, I wasn't the only one?? Now *I* feel like the stupid kid!

Hi!!
No problems here with topless toddlers. You're only young and carefree for a short time! I just wanted to add that you may want to take some of the mesh swimshoes for her. Concrete around the fountains and play areas can really tear up tender little feet. Have fun! :sunny:

:rotfl2:

That reminds me of an incident that occured about 15 years ago whilst I was visiting Six Flags over Texas. It was a hot summer and the park was overrun with tourists from everywhere, including the far east.

There were Asian people comming off the Splash Water Falls ride, most of whom were soaked. I was waiting in line at the time this occured. Anyway, this particular group of Asians made their way toward a series of benches near the ride entrance. All were adults accept for one girl who looked to be 9 or 10. All of them were talking in their native tounge rather loudly.

I paid no attention to them at first, then I noticed a couple of people pointing in the general direction of the Asians with their mouths open in what appeared to be shock. I turned to see what had put them in such a state, then my mouth dropped in shock. The young girl was standing in front of the benches towling herself off.......devoid of her clothing!!! :scared1:

Now picture this, a crowded theme park with thousands in attendance. And this little girl from another country casually doffs her attire and begins towling herself in front of passers by. I shook my head and turned back around. I kept telling myself that this sort of thing was probably common in her country.

I still felt embarrased for the little girl since people were obviously shocked. But it just goes to show how different the cultures of the world can be from one another.

As for the 1 year old, I seriously doubt it would offend anyone. I see toddlers running around in diapers in the supermarket all the time.
