Stuffed or unstuffed?

We make dressing here. Never stuffing. Actually don't know anyone who stuffs their bird. We but cut up citrus and herbs inside our bird to flavor it and cook the dressing separate in the oven.

I love stuffing from inside the bird and outside the bird. I love leftover stuffing, so I need more than what will fit in the bird. During the year I will make a breast for just DH and I. There really is not cavity to stuff, so I put the stuffing in the pan with the breast on top.

Stuffing in the bird it fine as long as you stuff it and then start cooking. The concern was from a bird stuffed the night before and place in the fridge.

So, I am guessing that you love stuffing? :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Same here- stuffing goes inside the turkey! I hate it otherwise, its dry and I hate that the top gets all dried out and crunchy. Not exactly sure what "dressing" is though....

We've always had stuffed turkeys and have never gotten sick in my 66 years. You still get some crunchy stuffing by overstuffing so the part by the opening gets crunchy.

I had to run to the store for a few things this afternoon and say a lot of people buying Stove Top Stuffing. Not sure how that works out.
:scared1:
Stove top - BLASPHEMY.

Trader Joe's Cornbread Stuffing.....All I can say is MMMMMM! I haven't even cooked it yet (except for the sage sausage and onion and celery) but it still is tasty. It's made and ready to stuff in the morning. Can't wait! :thumbsup2

Dressing is stuffing outside the bird. It isn't dry either, not if you make it right. Even if you don't like the crunch on top, underneath is very moist. In fact we bake it just until it isn't soaking wet. Dry dressing is made by someone that wants it that way, or doesn't know how to make it.

You are the 2nd person that has made the comment "moist stuffing" Does the dressing outside the bird taste dry to you all? Mine is never dry, I wait until the bird is done and I put lots of the pan drippings in my dressing plus chicken stock. . so I guess it sort of tastes like it would if I stuffed it.

For me, a moister stuffing is just my preference. Outside the bird stuffing is dryer to me. But not in a bad way, just different. And if I had to choose one, I like the moister, more dense, in the bird stuffing.

Trust me, I have never turned down a stuffing ball that has been made in a baking dish. Still delicious:thumbsup2 My mom made the best stuffing balls!

Yes but see you are adding stuff to it, I do the same thing. I throw some Pepperidge Farm Stuffing in my home made cornbread and then all the other stuff. Stovetop, you just add water and cook on top of the stove.

People are very opinionated about their stuffing/dressing. I do get that. I am getting hungry just talking bout all the ways to do it. I am sure what we all could agree on, is how the heck to get some of the calories out of it. :goodvibes

Stuffed. I've always stuffed the bird, as did my mother before me, and her mother before her.

Two of us are still alive.

I cook the turkey til about an hour before it's done. I pull it out of the oven, stuff it, and finish baking it. This way the bird is almost done and the risk is much lower but you still get the flavor. I also have a dish of it baking too as the bird can never hold as much as I'd like.

Unstuffed. We make a huge pan of cornbread dressing.

I don't think I've ever had stuffing that actually was inside the bird...

Inside the bird is my preference- I don't worry about getting sick. Then again, I eat rare beef, runny eggs and raw cookie dough too!

This year we aren't having a "Whole turkey" since my mother in law is sick and can't cook, we are all bringing the meal to her. My brother in law is doing a hotel breast in his rotisserie and I'm in charge of the stuffing... aka dressing because it will be outside the bird. Tips for keeping it moist and delicious please!!

Unstuffed

Can't put stuffing in the oil-less fryer. It would make a mess!

I keep it outside the bird. Never have made it in the bird. I like moist stuffing and prepare it that way.

Stuffed! It's in there right now. I tried unstuffed one year and hated it.(same recipe)
