Studio vs 1-Bedroom, does the washer/dryer convince you to use the extra points?

It certainly did at one point, but I quickly realized two points…

1) Folks posting about

A) washing dirty diapers in the washer.

B) people drying clothes in the dryer without first washing

Both grossed me right out the door.

ETA: … make it three points. Those machines are so tired it sounds like someone is pedaling to turn the machine.

We love the convenience of the w/d! We have stayed in studios many times over the years (and still do so, for a night or two). But we much prefer the one-bedroom unit for the extra space and try to ensure we budget our points accordingly. We enjoy our time at the resort -we’re are not park commandos - so we don’t think of it as a waste of points. And it is nice not to have to pack so many clothes!

Thank you so much--this is the very reason I am really inclined to do this. It's one thing to deal with regular stinky clothes. It's a whole other matter when the clothes are post run stinky.... 🤪 🤣
Ah, yes-the post run stinky clothes! When DH ran the Dopey 1 year, the washer/dryer was such a help! That plus it was nice to have 2 rooms, so he could go to sleep early and there was a separate room with a TV, so I could stay up later and not disturb him.

More than the washer/dryer, it is the separate room that convinced us.

Even when not at DVC, we get a suite for any stay longer than one night. I only need about 7 hours sleep and typically wake around 7:00. Spouse needs 9-10 hours and doesn't want to be disturbed before 9:00. I get up, close the door, have my coffee and cereal, read the paper online, do my puzzles and am ready for the day. No more tip-toeing around in the dark trying not to make noise.

I think you should run into the bedroom at 8am, wearing a Tigger hat jumping around yelling "we're at Disney!! Let's go! Tiggers dont bounce, they pounce!"

Just saying.. Might be funny once 👍🤔😂😂😂

For a long weekend, the washer dryer or big fridge wouldn't push me over. Nor the extra room because we wouldn't be in the room enough. But four days and not three, definitely - for all of the above..

For us, the full kitchen is why we prefer 1/2 bedrooms over studios. We make breakfast everyday, along with keeping drinks cold in the fridge and making our own ice from bottled water. Yes we bring ice trays. We have used the washer dryer but not much.

It used to be. I did used to like having a washer and dryer in the room. But then I remember a trip where I was doing laundry, everyone else went out. It felt like I was home and not on vacation. I don't want to do laundry on vacation anymore.

I don’t blame you! Our routine is to put a load into the washer when we return in the evening. If there’s time before bed, we dry it then too, but if not it goes into the dryer while we eat breakfast. I certainly wouldn’t want others leaving while I was tethered to the laundry! PS we wash almost every day because of the limited size of the washer and dryer.

Serious question, does the dryer shrink your clothes? How do I stop that? We always end up hanging the clothes around the room as our clothes come out 2 sizes smaller.

And No! I’m not getting fat.

Never had that happen on our trips, perhaps because we take clothes that are put in the dryer at home? Maybe you need a lower heat setting? Avoid the 100% cotton shirts?!!

I have already moved up from Tower Studios to Deluxe Studios at Riviera, I am resisting the urge to move up to a 1 bedroom as long as possible because that means I'd need to add on and that's just not in the cards any time soon.

I book 1 bdrms and love the washer/dryer. But that isn't why we book them. It's because with 2 boys I prefer to have the space and a little privacy if we are on longer trips.

I may be alone on this island but there is no chance I would book a 1 bedroom JUST for the washer and dryer. Before spending those extra points, I'd sooner throw the clothes away. Or stuff them in a plastic bag until we get home. Or use the resort laundry. Or wash them in a sink.

That said, we have booked 1BR many, many, many times. But it's more about the full kitchen, more space, extra beds...and the W/D.

We haven’t had problems with shrinkage in the dryer. We wash with cold water and dry on low heat, so sometimes we end up taking some dry items out (like nylon undies) and leaving damp things in (like heavy cotton t-shirts) for another round in the dryer.

Also, I remembered that none of our clothes are particularly wrinkle prone, so sometimes we leave in the morning while they’re still tumbling in the dryer.

I think I am talking about cotton t-shirts in particular. We rarely use a dryer at home but when we do, nothing shrinks. At DVC resorts everything shrinks. I may try a cooler setting but the new clothing bill is getting expensive.

Yes, try just the Low heat setting, although the shirts will take longer to dry. If they’re still damp at the end of the cycle you can run them through again or hang them up to finish drying.

DH and I have not taken a trip to WDW, just the 2 of us, so maybe one day we'll try studios, but the whole reason I even considered and agreed to DVC was to have a 1 bedroom or larger . We have stayed in studios at Polynesian, only because that's all they had, and we very much missed our 1 bedroom separate space, full kitchen, and washer/dryer. I always wash several loads on our trips, but more than that we very much utilize the full sized fridge: drinks, water, etc. etc. it's a must.
I have noticed, even on the lowest heat setting, that the dryer has faded my clothes, or they have that picky look. I do NOT like the dryers at BWV. they are slow, take forever when they work, and make a LOT of noise. I hang dry almost all of our shirt, most of them are graphic t-shirts, and I never put those in the dryer.

We're in the same boat. We've had 14 stays in a 1BR, 2BR, GV, or Cabungalow, and have only used the W/D once (for a single garment). I've hand washed more garments (or at least spot treated them), even while staying in a 1BR.

Ironically, it was a cash stay, too. So I guess we've never spent the points on a 1BR for the W/D.
