Studio vs 1-Bedroom, does the washer/dryer convince you to use the extra points?

Hi everyone,

We are typically one bedroom or two bedroom users. However, DH and I are making our own trip just the two of us for Princess weekend in February. I have a studio booked at RIV (first time trying the resort, YAH, so excited!!). However, I am used to having a washer/dryer in the room -- I do love the ease and convenience. I am debating if I want to move us into a one-bedroom (either there or anyone else that would be open at 7 months). Because we are running that weekend, I will have clothes that will need washing that I prefer not to pack while soiled (lol). For the folks who book studios a lot, how do you like the laundry situation when you use the resort washer/dryers? Is it pretty easy? I appreciate any insight. Thank you! 💜
I think a lot of replies have lost context that your stay is for just two people (a couple) for a weekend.

Weekend nights are already more points (vs weekday nights).

In that situation a studio seems fine for us. Regarding dirty cloths:
*I have never had material issues with shared washers/dryers (one time a washer didn't work but there were others. another time there was a pile of dried clothes on top of a dryer for hours, so sometimes people forget about their laundering). Haven't stayed at RIV so can't comment on RIV. .
If you don't want to use shared washers/dryers:
*Checked bags are probably cheaper than the points differential for a 1br
*Consider shipping clothes (LugLess, LuggageForward, UPS, etc)
*Toss the clothes after use (if it's not worth paying to ship them back home).

They have laundry for studio users. I love the convenience of having laundry in the room but once we stayed in a studio at bcv on the 4th floor right next to the laundry room: it was like having the laundry in our room.

When we were at boardwalk, we had to go down a few floors (by the gym). It wasn’t super convenient but for the point savings, but it was worth the studio price. We are point savers that splurge on 1 and 2bds a few days or half the days on our 14 day trip. But for a weekend trip? We would just deal with a studio,

I would say maybe ask to be near the laundry as a room request?

My problem with the shared laundry rooms are the people that put their clothes in the machines then take off for parts unknown, never to be seen again. If I have to use a laundry room, I stay near the clothes. When in a studio at OKW, I sit in a nearby pool chair.

We're just two now and prefer the one bedroom. I like the w/d and use it, but we also like the King bed (DH is 6' 5"), separate living room (I wake up much earlier than DH), and dining table. We also really like walk-in showers but they are becoming more common in studios so it's less of an issue.

I don't do wash on vacation - or cook. The one appliance I need is a coffee maker. :)
I NEVER cook on vacation. But I will do laundry, only if in-room (not shared), rather than overpack, pay for an extra bag & go home with a too many clean clothes & wet bathing suits. Been DVC for 29 years--have only stayed in a studio 3 times (night before a cruise); even as a couple, we book 1-bedrooms for the space & king bed.

I'm just dwelling on that poopy diaper thing.

I can't imagine why anyone would be using diapers that needed to be washed while on vacation.

Most people would probably use disposable diapers.

And the shared laundry room issue versus in room laundry: I would imagine housekeeping wipes down the machine's exterior if soiled and maybe checks for lint. But does any housekeeper actually clean the inside of the machine, other than dispensers for cleaning products?

I've used the one bedroom laundry and the resort laundry room. I much prefer the larger machines in the resort laundry and the dryers. So much more efficient! For the washer I set and go back to my room, setting a timer on my cell phone to return. Same for the dryer.

I LOVE having a one bedroom or 2 or 3 bedroom. The space is what I love the most. Next trip I go from a week in a BW Boardwalk 2 bedroom to a week at a hotel. You can bet we will all be doing laundry before we check out of BWV!

The thought of shared washers /dryers being gross. How does one know perhaps the washer in the one bedroom was used for diapers? No guarantee what is or isn't washed in the villas.

Just a note to those reading....Most resorts have the stacked washer/dryers in room. OKW has full sized household washer/dryers in the one bedroom and larger units.

Shhh…the first rule of OKW is don’t talk about the advantages of OKW. Next thing you know, you’ll be letting everyone know how huge the rooms are…. ;-)
