Studio Question

What studio accommodations do you find most functional for a family of 4. We are thinking studio for our next trip, to save points and also, we just don't spend a ton of time at the room. Thanks!

I'm not a DVC member, but I did take the tour and from what I saw the studios at Old Key West were the best. They had two queen size beds along with the kitchenette and the room itself just looked bigger. Good luck with your choice!

I agree with the PP, OKW for the size of the room and two beds (rather than a sofa bed) would be nice.

Not usually. You definitely do not want a BLT studio. They are the smallest of all. Really only meant for a couple and not a family of four.

The OKW studios are nice and big with two queen beds, as previously mentioned. All of the other WDW-DVC studios have a queen bed and sofa bed. We recently stayed at BLT in a studio as a family of three (Me, DW and DS5). It was nice being close to MK, but the room was very small, particularly the bathroom. Fortunately, it was only a 4 night stay. Some friend of ours just got back from a 5 night stay in an SSR studio for the four of them (with DD6 and DS4), and they felt a little cramped.

If I was going to do a studio again, I would probably do OKW for the extra space. Of course, you should book at your home resort first and then try to switch at 7 months. If was only for 2-3 nights, location might override comfort for me, but any longer than that, I would need space.

Just a family of 3 here who always uses studios...as much as DS would like to have his own "real" bed I didn't care for the layout of the OKW studios. I thought the shape was awkward & didn't care for the TV being high up on top of that chest of drawers. The kitchenette area was small and they do not have a split bath (my biggest peeve) so you're stuck waiting on the entire bathroom if someone is using only 1 piece of it. I really like the split bath feature that is available in all of the other studios. I think my fav. studio as been at VWL. The kitchenette area is larger than the newer resorts (there's even room for 1 column of drawers in it so it's wider & has more counter space). It has a split bath and 2 nice size closets. I don't try to cook big meals at all but I do appreciate having enough space to set out a couple of paper plates for bagels while toasting the bagels & making coffee at the same time. Some of the studio counters are too small to use everything at once & there's not even room to set out the cream cheese!!!

We are a family of four and we do NOT have small children, Our DDs are 18 and 23! 95% of the time we stay in studios because staying longer instead of staying larger is more important to us.

Our last trip was 10 nights at WDW (5 in a studio at BLT - NO problems at all with the size. We loved the way the kitchen is set up - the mirror and sink made getting ready in the morning that much easier. - followed by 5 in a studio at VWL) then we went on to stay for 3 more nights in an ocean view inn room at Vero (basically a studio but with 2 beds like at OKW).

A studio is very doable with a family of four -especially if you aren't planning on really cooking in your room.

There is so much storage space and places to tuck things that we never felt like we were tripping all over each other. We actually had more storage and LOVED the layout of the kitchenette at BLT than at our home resort VWL.

Do all of the Boardwalk studios have daybeds or did we just get lucky?

No, only the dedicated studios. And that daybed, for other readers, is about crib sized (looks like a deacon's bench). They used to call it a Studio Plus. And you cannot request it.

I do remember it was fairly small, but my son (at the time he was 7) slept in it and it was perfect for him. He was thrilled not to have to share a bed with his younger sister.
Do you know how many "studio plus" rooms there are? Are they all in the same area? If we can't specifically request one of these rooms, I'd like to do what we can to have the best odds at getting one.

We got one of these rooms when my son was six. He tried the bench and hated it. Too hard and too small. We wound up using it to put stuff on, like our packages from shopping, sweatshirts, etc.

They are just the "luck of the draw".
