Studio or 1 bedroom

Hi,
Regarding the fridges in the studios, do they have a small freezer compartment at the top? We were hoping to be able to freeze some ice packs and use them to keep snacks cool when going to the parks.

If it's just 2 or 3 of us, we book a studio. Granted, my dd is now 22, so putting her to bed earlier than we go to bed isn't an option. Actually, we tend to go to bed before she does!! When it's the three of us, me dd and I take the queen bed and dh takes the sleep sofa. We're all pretty tall so the tallest gets to sleep alone!
I've taken a one bedroom in the past...and liked it. Love being able to do laundry in the room!! But, I never, ever cooked. We can prepare what we like in a studio....cereals, toast, bagels, etc. I have no issue doing the laundry away from the room. Booking studios allows me to go twice as many times!!!

So some of you give your kids the bedroom so you can stay up later? We are debating this with 2 thirteen year old boys- but so many more points!

I'm a night owl so I chose the 1 BR so that if I want to stay up and watch TV I won't disturb my son and husband. I also like having the full kitchen so I can cook a few meals in the room and save some money.

We love a 1 bedroom! Being in a studio is definitely a step up from a hotel room, but a 1 bedroom feels a lot more like being "home". There's a washer and dryer, a dishwasher and some 1 bedrooms have two bathrooms which is great! Although we love to be together as a family, it's nice to spread out and find your own little corner.

I also thought it would be good to do my laundry before I pack up the clothes so I don't have to do it when I get home...who looks forward to laundry after a nice vacation?

The new resorts and resorts that have had their refrigerators replaced do not have a freezer compartment.

The studios to have a small freezer compartment. It probably isn't cold enough to freeze the ice packs sold, but is still better than then the fridge section.

I also think it depends on the studios. VGF studios are kind of small, and have a serious lack of storage space. Others are much better.

If you are out early, back late, then a 1 bedroom is probably not worth it.

But they are a lot more spacious, with nicer tubs, and amenities.

I could not care less about the kitchen, but to many people that is a big bonus, however I do not see the "saving money" aspect of it, The money you save by cooking in the room can not justify the cost of all the additional points, at least not without a large group. (Also I try to avoid all the things I have to do every day...cooking...groceries, etc, while on vacation). Then again, it is just me and DGF, so 2 people.

I think as you DVC it more, the one bedrooms do become more and more appealing though, and add-on-itis kicks in.

It comes down to preference, as many have stated already (yeah, I don't know why I'm chiming in with another view, but I'm gonna). We prefer 1BRs because we love the space--and it's only two of us. However, we like the kitchen for the large fridge and occasional cooking. We almost always use the washer/dryer which allows us to pack less. The jacuzzi tub is wonderful (especially after, say, one of the RunDisney races). The split bathroom allows both of us to get ready in the mornings and before dinners (yes, some studios have that, too, but you sacrifice a lot of storage in those cases). If one of you does want to stay up later than the other, the living area being separate from the bedroom is useful. We're also one of those "just toss it on the table" kind of people (shhh, don't tell my wife I admitted this), so having a table, kitchen counter, AND coffee table is convenient. As we take quite a few trips, we often will stay in studios to save points; however, we go for the 1BRs whenever possible. As for slides, most resorts have decent ones, but as many will tell you, Stormalong Bay is an awesome pool (Beach Club) for kids of all ages.

I'm still split on this one and haven't figured out if the pros outweigh the cons. 1 bedroom is great for privacy, or if someone likes to sleep in. I found my kids seemed to get along better with more space. Jacuzzi tub is nice, doing laundry was great!!! But double the points can mean having to skip a trip and who wants to do that????
Ditto this. We are three also, me DH and DD18. We have done it both ways. We tend to book a 1 bedroom when we have substantial extra points rolled over but generally a studio works for us. If we don't feel like going out we have used the grills a couple of times.

Having a kitchen is nice--we often tire of eating out and sometimes it's nice to just come back to your room, sit somewhere quiet and eat a sandwich or throw in a frozen pizza rather than heading to a noisy quick service. You can do a sandwich in a studio, but that little fridge fills up fast.

If I had a huge number of points I'd do one bedrooms. Kitchen, extra space and laundry are great. But I have a small contract and like to go multiple times a year. That means studios.

Oh heck no! No way I'd give up my King master for kids.

We just let the kids stay up with us on vacation
So much this.

But consider how many of the balconies attach to the bedrooms in these units, and there's a TV. Just bring the wine bottle into the master when the kids go to bed and you're set.

If someone in the family snores and it affects the other family member's sleep, then you will wish you had gotten a 1BR. If you don't plan to cook or place anything in a freezer, then for three I would think a studio would be a nice way to stretch your points. BLT's studio is the smallest but I think the fact that you can walk to MK offsets the lack of space. And won't seem so crowded if you fold the bed back into the couch when you are not sleeping. You can easily do laundry in the laundry room and at many of the resorts the laundry room is near the pool, so we often get some pool time in while waiting for the clothes to be taken back to the room. I like the laundry room at BLT better than some of the resorts because it has three washers and 6 dryers. Some only have two of each kind. And now there is a website you can use to check the availability of the machines at WDW. http://www.laundryview.com/disneyworld/
