First of all, I am the queen of split stay, we stay at a couple of resorts or switch from a studio to a 1 bedroom, but, for our next vacation I decided we would stay at only one resort in the same room. We are checking in at BCV for ten days next week and I am still in disbelief that we will be in a studio for the entire 10 days. What happens if we change our mind mid stay and decide to call MS to switch to a one bedroom? How will that work? Has anyone done this? Am I insane to think it can be done?

:goodvibes

I haven't done any switching like that, but if there's a vacancy and if you have the points, you can switch! Since a 1 bedroom would cost more, there wouldn't be any points left in holding. Enjoy that trip!

Don't know how they would do it with your points. They make a point of telling you that on day of arrival all points for that reservation are taken from your account. If you switched to a different room size that would be the same as cancelling the rest of the first reservation and rebooking. Technically the first points would be gone so they might not be applied to the new room and you would then have a very expensive 1BR. It will be interesting to see if anyone has done this before and if they come here and post a reply.

Call them up and see if it could be done. Then you would know your options ahead of the trip and maybe do something now if it couldn't be done later.

Once on the last night of a 3 night trip, I invited some friends to join me. The front desk wound up cancelling and then rebooking the original last night to add my friends' names. It wasn't a case of having to use new points for that last night.

From someone who only ever stays in studios I don't get what the big deal is to stay in a studio for 10 days. We often do it for a week. What's another 3 days? Last summer we did a studio at BCV for a week then an OVIR at VB for 3 nights. We just got back from a week at HHI in a studio & I would've been fine for a 2nd week. What am I missing? It's not that big of a trauma is it? Really? :confused3

We have done 10 days in a studio at OKW. Honestly, it isn't awful, but you sure will miss the washer/dryer in your room. Schlepping clothes and detergent to/from the laundry facilities a couple of times during the trip, and then waiting during the wash/dry cycles is not fun.

Like Annie, we only stay in studios. We stay for 2 weeks each trip.

We don't really go to WDW for the room. We spend most of our time at WDW outside of the room. It's amazing to me how little sleep I can get by on at WDW! And as for cooking while on vacation...forget it! ;)

So if your vacation style is suited to a studio unit, I don't see why you'd have a problem.

And as others have said, you can change to a one-bedroom if there's one available. Good luck!

We only stay in studios also (2 of us)......like being able to stay longer.
It is just fine for us. I don't really want to do laundry on vacation, but if I need to, I just do it really early or late.
And I don't really want to cook either. We eat breakfast in the room. Dining is a big part of our vacation :rotfl:

We are a family of 3, and I LOVE studios being able to be at DIsney.. but there is no close second to a 1 bedroom.
Usually the 1st 1/2 of the trip we do studios, we run from one park to another, do our fancy dining ect, and stay out late.. then the 2nd half we are wore out do more relaxing and the 1 bedroom works out.

What about last 4 at a 1-bedroom?
We do this to do laundry and use big tub and stuff. You will get a little more space when you are a little more tired?

DH and I stayed in a studio for 5 nights in June, after being with our 2 kids and my parents in a 2 bedroom for 8 nights. We really, really missed the larger villas. Not being able to do laundry, and staying in such a small space was hard for us. If I were you, I would try to do a split stay with a 1 bedroom.

We have traveled for years doing vacations in regular hotel rooms for a week+ I don't see how a studio would be much different to that. :thumbsup2 You are at Disney World enjoy your time!!

With only the three in the studio, (parent and young DD) I don't see any problems staying in a studio for 10 days. The worse part is that if you want to do laundry you have to go to the laundromat. We often make that a pool day and run back and forth between the pool, the laundry and back our villa to put the clothes away. I would think one adult could stay at the pool with you DD while the other does the laundry.

Just came back from 10 days in BCV studio with 2 adults a teen & a 4 year old! Our room was right across from the laundry:thumbsup2! It really wasn't bad at all, we loved it!! We did switch our full cleaning from day 8 to day 4 and T&T to day 8. Would stay again for 10 days although laundry room can get a little crazy, my husband would put in a load of wash each morning before his run at 5 am and we didn't have any issues... Some of the other guest not so lucky... The weekends seemed to be the most difficult time to do wash... enjoy! Everything else was great though, loved the pool, location and dining choices!

Last May we had 4 adults in a 1 bedroom. We had waitlisted for a 2 bedroom up to 7 days prior. I then called everyday to see if something was available - even while there. 2 days into our stay a 2 bedroom opened up. We moved straight away into the larger unit. Only the difference in points was charged to our account.

I love the studios, but unless we're resort hopping, by day 4/5 I'm really missing a full kitchen and laundry. There's only so much Disney food I can take and cooking in a microwave really limits the offerings. If you have the points, I'd ask about it.

I appreciate the feedback, with an almost 2 yr old I know I will be missing the washer/dryer and extra room to spread out. I think we will stick to our studio, if we feel that we need the extra room I will call MS to see what they suggest. We actually done the studio for 9 days before, but, have always had a 1 bedroom since the baby was born. Besides, with all the trips that we are planning I need to start stretching our points to the max!! ;)

We are a family of 5 who is staying in a 2 bedroom BLT in Feb for 6 nights and when I went to book our free airfare (mileage points) I realized SW blocked out our return date. Since 2 DD's are in college they need to fly home on Presidents day so I ended up booking a studio at AKV for for DD 15, DH and myself for the last night to use the 3 free tickets I had. I keep saying "I think we should get a 1 bedroom" and DD 15 keeps saying "mom it is 1 night who cares we are going to be checking out the resort!" She is right but I do love those 1 and 2 bedrooms!

Coming from the UK, we usually have 2 weeks in a studio. We have had split stays but, frankly, we find it messes things up - we seem to spend half a day packing and another half a day unpacking. What a waste of a Disney day.

If our kids are with us DS 26 and DD 23 we usually get a 2 bedroom and sometimes a 1 bedroom at OKW. If DH and I go we get a studio. We eat out and sometimes eat a lite breakfast in the room. I don't mind the studio, but I do like having a couch and bed in the room so we have somewhere to sit if we are in the room in the evening. If only DH and I are there we keep it pretty neat. I like to stay orgainized. We will be in BWV in Oct in a studio and I will be using the laundry there for the first time, so I will have to see if I like that. I know I will miss the washer and dryer in the room.
