I can't recall whether it was on this forum or another but mention has been made about coffee mugs and wine/drinking glasses being withdrawn from Studios and replaced with disposable equivalents. Sanitisation regs I believe. Can anyone put me right on this one?

We are off in about 3 weeks and just want to plan ahead.

No wine glasses in the studios but any DVC attached to a hotel had their mugs and glasses returned some time ago, not sure about OKW and SSR as they are stand alone but plans were in place to return asap.

From what you say, I think I will assume that SSR & OKW are now "mugless" and "glassless" We'll just pick up some cheapies and ditch them before heading home.

In theory you should be able to ask for them when you get to the room if they don't have any. Should be easier to get now than when they first bought the policy in as there was a lot of confusion then. Worth trying before spending any money!

AS Claire says, there were never any wine glasses in the studios (or at least not recently), just drinking glasses. This is the official line:

As part of a continuous review of cleaning practices in Disney Resort hotels, leaders determined that hand washing dishware and glassware in Disney Vacation Club studio units wasn't sufficient to meet the company's cleanliness standards.

For studio accommodations at Disney Vacation Club Resorts in which glass-washing equipment is available (Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas and the Inn rooms at Disney's Vero Beach Resort), glassware and ceramic mugs now are cleaned in the glass washers, rather than by hand.

Studio accommodations at stand-alone Disney Vacation Club Resorts (Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, the villas at Disney's Vero Beach Resort and Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa) now utilize disposable cups, since glass washers aren't available at those resorts. The company wanted to take action quickly, and using disposables was the most expedient solution. Housekeepers replenish the disposable cups upon request.

Disney Vacation Club leaders are investigating more environmentally friendly disposable products, as well as the possibility of installing glass washers at specified locations within the stand-alone properties.

According to reports around the time of the announcements, it is possible to request mugs and glasses once you've checked in.

Debbie, thanks for the DVC quote. I don't think disposable items are going to cause us a problem. A visit to a $1 store should see us all right

I am a bit confused about the reference to the Inn rooms at Vero Beach. We stayed there in January and there was certainly no dishwasher in the room. Surely this would them on a par with SSR and OKW - or am I missing something

Doesn't really matter, though. SSR and OKW are our next stops and, as I said, cheap drinking vessels will meet our needs. Thanks again for the input.

The reference to dishwashing facilities relates to the resorts themselves, rather than individual units within those resorts. So, for those DVC resorts attached to hotels, those dishwashing facilities are present. The stand-alones don't have commercial dishwashing facilities. I'm not sure why Vero Beach should be different. If they have facilities at the Inn, you'd think they would be available in the same way.

Hi,

We were in Inn Rooms at Vero Beach this August and certainly no plumbed in dishwasher as you'd expect.

Plastic cutlery and paper plates were provided but can't remember if we had glass tumblers and ceramic coffee cups but i'm sure we did.
