Stroller for a 5yr old?

I was just wondering which would be better for my DD4 who is almost 5Maclaren Triumph or the Maclaren Volo stroller? I want a stroller that she will be comfortable in while at WDW. We have tried other Umbrella strollers and she just is to big for them.

My advice would be go to babies r us if you have one near you and test them out. That's what we did. I found DD had more room in the Triumph. It seemed to have a deeper seat and a little bit bigger seat. Plus it reclined a little so she had more leg room. DD(5) is tall and she fit better in the Triumph.

Weird...maybe I don't have a Volo...? Because I know I got one of the cheaper MacLaren's, and it DOES recline. It only has one position though, and it reclines with the release of these straps that are similar to the straps that hold a kid in the seat.

ETA:
My mistake. I pulled up the email from when I ordered it from Amazon. Not a Volo.

Lugging a stroller around is a lot easier than lugging a five year old. Our five year old couldn't have done without one. It was just too much for her.

Wonder if it could be checked on an airplane? Or if we could ship it to our resort, would we need tools to put it together? An air pump for the tires? I'm super curious how small and quickly it folds up (for the buses at Disney).

Amen!! This year we were considering not bringing our stroller for our 5 year old, but that is what it came down to...minor inconvenience of stroller or lugging DD5 around if/when she tired out. She would much rather walk, but she will sit and take a 1 hour nap and be recharged for the rest of the day.

I am sure there are different models, but I wouldnt bring a bike buggy. Ours doesnt fold up at all, my best friend's does, but it is still clunky and ackward... There is also a pretty long metal arm that sticks out for the front wheel that I think could be really bothersome in the crowds. The only place we use ours as a stroller is here in town on outdoor walking paths. I know ours required assembly and the tires are bike tires so they would potentially need air. If you could find something that folded up easily and didnt have that awful front wheel arm on it, it could be great for disney! But those two things would really make me think twice before taking one to WDW.

At 5 my children would be embaressed to ride in a stroller. I know its Disney but really a stroller for a child that old. I think that's crazy. All the walking is the good exercise they need to make up for eating junk.

I know there's no way my son would make it through the parks without a stroller. To me not taking one would be "crazy". It's way too much for a young child.

Many children who do not otherwise use a stroller do at Disney World. A great number of children are not up to walking around all day, for days at a time. I know after a few days I wish I could get someone to push me around, and their little feet have to take many more steps than mine do!

I wouldn't be too sure your 5yr old would be embarassed. After a few days trucking thru the parks you might be suprised at what they would do.:)

Does that stroller fold? If not, might be a big problem on the buses...

Not only on the buses but the trams too. There's not much room on the trams (from the parking lot to the entrance of the parks) so it might be awkward getting the stroller on it.

At five they may be embarrassed to be in a stroller at your local mall, but Disney World is a whole different ballgame :) And I'm talking perfectly healthy children here.

We were just there last week, our dd is 5, and last year we rented the Disney strollers and when we asked her this year if she wanted a stroller she said "no I'm not a baby".....LOL....and she did just fine walking the parks. Its actually good for her to do all that walking! I think most kids could walk but parents are the ones that don't want them too or think they can't do it. I saw so many older children in strollers and I just can't understand it:confused3 Also I think I got fed us with stroller at this trip, leaving MK after wishes with so many strollers around and them running over the back of your feet:mad: Sorry but I just had to vent!
To answer your question I would not bring one and she if your child can do without one and if not then rent one, the disney ones are so lightweighta nd easy to manuever around all the other strollers:rotfl2:

Do they make it through the day without complaining about being tired? I am expecting #2 in Sept, and in December my daughter turns 5. I was looking into double strollers but then people were telling me I'm crazy -- at 5 she should be walking! I guess they are right, huh?

This trip in 2 weeks I think will be my 4 1/2 year old's last trip with a stroller, I guess.

Please feel free to give your opinion -- I welcome it.

Thanks :)

They don't have to be in the stroller ALL day. Only when they're tired and need a break. Other's people's opinions are really irrelevant. You have to do what works for you and your children. The people who think it's ridiculous aren't the ones who are going to be dealing with your child when they're tired of walking and cranky from being hot and exhausted.

Ask yourself what kind of touring style you have. Do you stay in the parks all day, and try to get in as much as you can? If yes, then get a stroller. Will the people who are telling you you are crazy to get one going to be the ones dealing with a tired, cranky child? No. Do what is necessary for you family to enjoy their vacation, and don't worry about what other people think.

Fyi, during our last trip my youngest niece was 5. Her daddy was sooo sure she wouldn't need a stroller. First day at Epcot, after listening to her complain about all the walking, I rented her one. Fact is, most adults are exhausted after all of that walking, how can you expect a child, who has to take 2 or 3 steps to your 1, not to be?

Don't NOT rent a stroller if you need one, just because of what other people think.

I did have a stroller for when we went the first time and my older daughter was five. We were there in Sept. and it was really hot- so really it was a bit of a life saver- we could keep going longer because she was at least rested. The other really great thing that I will miss this time around is being able to put things in the stroller basket. That to me is the main reason to bring one- I miss it in the malls too!

I know most of our 5 year olds are not in strollers on a daily basis- but Disney and how overwhelming and hot it can be is a bit different. Don't let anyone shame you into not bringing one- believe me you won't be the only one to have a 5 year old in a stroller!

I was up in the air about renting a stroller for my DD who will be five when we go in Sept. She never uses a stroller other times, however , she does complain if there is a lot of walking involved. I think I will rent a stoller. Less headache for me. It also gives me somewhere to put stuff. I will be carrying some type of backpack Im sure. Camera equipment , water bottles, etc. If I get tired I can throw it on top of the canopy of the stroller.

I appreciate your having your own opinion and all but...:confused3
When we go to WDW, we go for at least a week, and always take a break for a couple of hours half way through the day. My DS12 is a 2nd degree black belt, and STILL gets tired walking in the parks. He is 5 feet tall, and puching 90 lbs. DS8 plays soccer, basketball and baseball throughout the year, and STILL gets tired walking in the parks. He is all of 48 inches tall, and 45 pounds - so obviously they don't need to work off their junk food!
I know that both of them would be more embarrased by having a tired whiny sibling, than having their sibling pushed around in a stroller!
Some children simply can't be on their feet walking all day, if they are not used to Florida's heat and humidity - no matter if they are eating junk food or not!
Again - bottom line - does a stroller work for you and your child? What would be easier - pushing a stroller, or carrying an upset, hot, tired child throughout Disney World?

well said :goodvibes .... you do what you like .. there will be MANY children of that age in strollers. :goodvibes . and i see many many people carrying out asleep children.. which would not be fun for us at the end of the day.

Our DS is now 8 so it doesnt apply to him.. but at 5 we still brought his own stroller for the late nights at the parks.

For the OP.. Im not sure you will allowed to take the bike buggy thing into the park. Isnt it written somewhere what you can and cant take in. Ive never seen anything like that in the parks.. and if it has a long bit sticking out the front, I cant imagine they would allow it - just too dangerous with people walking in the parks.
