Stroller for a 5yr old?

I have a 4 yr old that will be 5 in December and we are going in Sept. and I was wondering is she too old/big for a stroller. I hate to get there and be stuck carrying her around.

Another thing to consider about having a stroller is the rain. Another plus of having the stroller is it can be a way tokeep your child dry. At least some what. A rain poncho draped over it really helps.

We went for DD 7th birthday. She is autistic and it wasn't even a should I bring it question, it's we are bring. My sister conveniently was getting rid of a mid price stroller that was really slim and folded nice and small, so i grabbed it. That way we didn't care if she broke it. She weighed about 60lbs at the time.
Since she's autistic we needed a way to cage her if she got too stimulated or hyper (we also did her harnass, for when she wanted to walk and not hold hands). Plus gave us a place to carry our gear. The stroller did great and actually last thru another year and a half of local theme parks, we just retired it last weekend.

Does that stroller fold? If not, might be a big problem on the buses...

Yes, the website says "the Folded Dimensions: 31 x 35 x 20". I haven't measured it to see if these are correct. It doesn't fold up like a traditional stroller though.

One other thing..it is a good way to keep them safe from wandering off. I still use the 'expensive" disney rental double stroller for my girls at last trip had just turned 8 and my youngest was 5. Keeps them out of the sun, rested and safe!

We are bring two Maclarens down one for our 2 year old and one for our 6 year old. He just does not like to walk that much.

Absolutely! I still either bring a stroller or rent a stroller for my 7 year old. Sometimes it's just easier to sit him down after a long day and let him rest for a bit. Believe me if the other 2 boys could fit in those strollers they will join their brother (and have tried!).

What kind of stoller do you have? My DS6 might need one but I ddn't think that they made stollers for his size. Also need to buy a new one for my DS2. We have a bugaboo and everone has told me not to bring that since it is big even when it is folded plus it is a 2 piece fold. Any suggestions for strollers???

Macleran makes good strollers for older/bigger kids. We took a Maclaren Volo and it worked great. It folds up nice and small and is lightweight, but also has a basket underneath to stash stuff.

Bring it! I hemmed and hawed about it in the months leading up to our vacation. Our daughter was 4 1/2 and hadn't been in a stroller in over 2 years. It was the best decision I made! I purchased a Maclaren stroller from Target for about $100. It was extremely lightweight and folded easily. There was also a shoulder strap to carry it over your shoulder. It made getting back to our car much easier. We put it on the train (folded) in MK and without any problems. It was nice to store our jackets in the basket when we no longer needed to wear them. We are going back in September and although she'll be 5 then, I'm bringing the stroller. I don't recommend buying a cheapo one, though. I'm 5'5" and those hurt my back while pushing. I feel like I'm hunched over while pushing it. Plus, there's no basket underneath for storage. Even though the stroller I bought was expensive, it was cheaper than renting one at WDW and we didn't have to wait in line to rent/return it.

Hope this helps! :cutie:

The Volo is the one we bought too. LOVED it! :woohoo:

We recently bought a Volo (got a good deal on ebay on last year's model)... I needed something to take DS who is 3 through his late stroller years since he outgrew all his other lightweight strollers. Our research told us that a Mac (Volo is the low end) was the way to go. However, I still use a stroller maybe once a week here and there, so it was worth the money to me. If you never use a stroller at home, I would truly consider the cheapie umbrella stroller. After all, Mac's are very high-end umbrella strollers (and not cheap). If you are just looking for something for this trip period, a cheapie umbrella might be the way to go. Hopefully the stroller you found in the basement will still work. Long story short, take the stroller!!! Good luck and have a good time!!!

We wanted to bring one for our 5yo dd, but we went shopping for one, and couldn't find one she'd fit in (she's rather tall, even though she's less than 40 lbs.) People keep mentioning Maclarens for up to 45-55 lbs, but does anyone know of a stroller that's long/tall enough for a 44" child to sleep in?

Our 5 yo ds is 51" tall and weighs 57 pounds. We have a Mac Techno XLR and he fits in it with several inches of headroom (so we can actually use the sun shade.) (The Techno XLR holds up to 65 pounds.) The stroller drives like a dream with him in it.

We also have a buggy board that we attach to the back. The stroller still steers great with both little boys ( 2 & 5 yos) riding.

I love the stroller. It's incredibly sturdy. (The downside - it is 44 inches long when folded up and weighs about 17 pounds.) We'll have to use dh's travel bag for his golf clubs when we check the stroller at the airport, as I couldn't find a stroller bag that's big enough.

HTH

PS- The stroller also reclines so my 5 yo could (in theory) sleep in it (unfortunately he won't).

Several years ago - our boys' first trip to WDW - we bought a Combi Travel stroller - it is fantastic! It folds up in half, and then folds again, sideways, so it is VERY easy to travel with! Very large hood on it (top and sides can be covered), plus a pretty good sized storage compartment underneath. The stroller is very light, and the color was unusual enough so that I didn't worry about anyone else having the same stroller (it is black with lime green accents :crazy2: !).
Youngest DS8 is quite small - just now topping out at 45 pounds! - and he used this stroller until last year! Whether we needed the stroller or not, it was just as easy to take it to the parks (we fly down), and then we would have the stroller at the end of some very long days. I didn't mind taking it around, as the storage space would hold a ton of stuff!
Yes - I was one of the moms that got some weird looks from people with him in a stroller, but it made him comfortable, and best of all - he wouldn't get cranky from being overly tired! But, like I said - he is small -people mistake him for a kindergartner, so he simply would not make the full days walking! I think that I bought the stroller through Amazon.com - maybe $100.00 at the time? I would recommend the brand to anyone!
Bottom line is: is is going to be beneficial to your child to have the stroller handy? If so, then YES - definitely take one with you!

I was just wondering which would be better for my DD4 who is almost 5Maclaren Triumph or the Maclaren Volo stroller? I want a stroller that she will be comfortable in while at WDW. We have tried other Umbrella strollers and she just is to big for them.

We also had the Volo for our trip last year. My son was 5 and was 44" then, and fit quite comfortably. Even laying down. There are adjustments you can make in the seat to make it slide our further also. We will definitely be dusting it off for our next trip.

the volos i have all seen do NOT recline, they are one position fixed seats.

ive also been looking for a stroller with higher carrying weight capacity.
did find the combi flare which holds up to 55 lbs.
