Stroller/Car Seat Question

We will be taking my 4 month old down to Orlando in April and we will be bringing out car seat and stroller travel system. I am going to put him in the stroller in the airport and check it plane side and he will sit on my lap for the flight. I am not sure what to do with the car seat. We will obviosuly need it down there for the rental car. However we do not have a car seat travel bag for it. Has anyone ever checked a car seat without a travel bag on it. Should we carry it through the airport and check it plane side or just check it with the rest of our luggage?

Gate check the car seat. If you don't have a bag, many airlines have plastic bags they will give you (at the counter; have not seen these at the gate). Even a big trash bag is better protection than nothing.

We bought an inexpensive laundry bag and put the car seat in it at the gate, used it for laundry on the trip and re-used it at the gate on the flight home! Have a great trip!

You can gate check your stroller and carseat at the same time, right before you board the plane.

I HIGHLY recommend covering the carseat with a bag of some sort. They get dirty very quickly, and the last thing you want to do is put your child in a seat with grease/dirt on it! Yuck!

We even cover our stroller. The bag that we use can be machine washed after the trip, and I've had to scrub black grease off of it before. Better on it than on my stroller though!

These are great gate check bags. Our keeps our stroller clean & dry. The bag is covered in marks that would have otherwise been on our stroller. After one flight that landed in a downpour, we were the only ones able to use our stroller in the airport because we were the only ones with a cover. We wouldn't travel without it.

That is exactly what we use too!
