Strategy for Japanese candy lady?!?!

My fourth trip in 3 yrs to WDW and have NEVER seen the candy lady!!!

This is my MUST DO for this trip...it sounds very interesting, and cool, and the World Showcase is one of my absolute favorite parts of the trip!

My girls, 5 & 8 would get a big kick out of this too, I know.

Please tell me any pointers for how to make sure we see her!
(are her times sporadic? I cannot find postings of her)

I checked Steve Soares' site--he keeps an updated schedule of live entertainment at WDW but I couldn't find her I posted the link so you could check on her schedule. We saw her in June on a Sunday and it seems like she was off Thursday - Saturday or something like that. We timed it so that we could watch the Japanese drummers perform and then it was time for Miyuki. She will make free candy for the kids who arrive early and she is very good at remembering who was there first. Hopefully someone else will come along with more info on her schedule....

Pick up a performance schedule at the Epcot front entrance and show up when she's scheduled! Your kids will also love Imaginum (living statue) in Italy and A Chair Act and Le Mime Roland in France.

The candy lady has her little space set up in front of the Mitsukoshi building. If you get there about 10 or 15 minutes before she is scheduled to arrive and hang out right in front of her booth, you will be sure to get a "lollipop". (I even got one and I am no child! A child at heart but not in years!)
She's worth the wait. Good luck!

I sure hope she is there on Wednesdays, cuz that is our scheduled Epcot day, and I sure don't want to go back to work on that itinerary!!!

So, what is the "candy lady" and what does she do - other than hand out candy to some people? This is the first time I've seen such a person mentioned.

The origin of candy artistry dates back over 250 years, in the EDO Era. Candy artists were originally the stars of citizen entertainers on street corners and local folk festivals. Candy artists create animals and flowers with soft rice dough, very much like taffy. With their skilled hands and small scissors the artist can make animals, such as dragons, horses, rabbits, cats, monkeys, eagles, birds and flowers.

Currently, there are 15 candy artists in Japan. Miyuki is the only woman candy artist. Miyuki began her apprenticement training in 1989 under the artistry of her grandfather. He is one of the best and most renowned candy artists in Japan.

Miyuki is distinguished to be the first and only woman to receive training as a candy artist in Japan. After completing her training and becoming an independent candy artist, she traveled to Italy in 1994. She has also traveled extensively in Japan, to demonstrate her artistic creations of the candy arts at conventions, local festivals and private parties where people of all ages are entertained by her special talents.

Miyuki is the name of the "candy lady". She makes many animals out of taffy candy and makes each one in under two minutes. Of course, this is only hearsay as I have never seen her either but have seen examples of the candy anuimals she makes and they are awesome! We are hoping to see her on our next trip.

Since we spent a lot of time in Japan looking at the yu-gi-oh cards we were lucky to see the candy lady. She made my ds a dragon(she picked him to go first because he had his face painted at Ak in the morning) My son loved it but it didn't kake it home in one peice

we are tring to figure out a way to get it home in one peice so he can bring it to school for show and tell

Having eaten at Teppanyaki every single trip and loving the Japan showcase, I have to say that we have never seen the candy lady! This will be one of my new missions for our next trip! She sounds amazing!

We typically either buy a plastic mug or popcorn bucket and place the candy down in there and surround it with undergarments.

Miyuki is wonderful! Like others said, arrive early. After the show we hung around and were able to take a picture of my DD with her candy creation and Miyuki.

From my June 6-12, 2004 times guide for Epcot, Miyuki did her candy art on Sun-Wed at 12:50, 1:50, 3, 4, 5 and 6:05. On Thursday her show times were 12, 12:50, 1:50, 3, 4 and 5. She did 5 candy animals and my 2 DDs (8 & 9 yo) chose the last two she did. The first 3 animals were done for mid to late teenagers so you don't have to be a little kid to get one. We were the only 2 families waiting for her when she walked out to set up. After the show she did ask if I wanted to take a picture of her, my DDs and the candy animals but I didn't have a camera.

Everytime we see the candy lady its crowded! My DD got picked a few years back but not again since.

Does anyone know if you do not get picked to choose an animal, is there any place that sells them. Like the gift shops in Japan, or can you only get them if she picks you from the crowd?

Yes she will, she picked my daughter in law. Be there before she comes out so she sees you. We have always been there waiting and each and everytime we get picked. I don't mean to say it will work for you, but has for us.
