Strategies for keeping Smart Phone charged

Just upgraded from a iPhone3 to a 5s now I have LTE have noticed a faster drain. Does LTE drain battery faster than 3 or 4G? Just learning thanks for advice! Yes my DD16 showed me the close your app trick and settings, have wifi currently off. Also is it bad to turn the phone on-off once a day or should I leave it on all the time? Thanks again!
