The strangest thing that I have ever seen at a Disney park was last January in the Magic Kingdom. My son and I were waiting in line for the Tomorrowland Speedway when I noticed an Amish couple behind us - they seemed to be newlyweds and looked very young (about 16 or 17).
It seemed odd because WDW seems to be one of the two most commercial places in the U.S.. I told my husband that they were getting experience so that they could pass a driver's test and escape from Amish land.
I unobtrusively took a couple of snapshots of them with my cell phone but my phone was stolen shortly thereafter.

When Amish kids turn 16, some are allowed to experience the outside world before making the commitment to live the Amish lifestyle. It's called "rumspringa". That translates to "running around". If going to Disney World is some teenagers idea of walking on the wild side, I say good for them!

They could have been Mennonites, and not Amish, who I believe are less strict.

When I go to Hersheypark, I see lots of Mennonite families enjoying the attractions there.

I saw a family using one of those big, old VHS camcorders at WDW. I'm assuming they were Amish.

Amish Land? I think I live in Amish Land (Wayne/Holmes County, Ohio).

I never thought of it that way.
Maybe we make some tee-shirts!

P.S. They might have been Mennonite. What did their hats look like?

Payback? :lmao: J/K

I'm always surprised by clothing and shoes options of some park guests. The general consensus seems to be "wear comfortable shoes." To me, that does not mean walking around the parks all day in 3 inch heels. But that's just me.

Aside from that, one of the strangest things I've seen was a man and a woman arguing in line at Pecos Bill. First they argued about what to order for themselves and their kids, then they argued about the toppings bar, and then she just let him have it about not telling her what to eat because it was her money and she would eat whatever she wanted. You'd have had to have been there to get the full effect, but I can't imagine me or my husband arguing like that in front of God and everybody.

Me too! We will pick a bench and laugh at the shoes people will wear to the parks! It's like watching a sporting event for us.:lmao:

the strangest thing (and very disgusting) was what the lady next to us did while waiting for Illuminations. She hiked up her Sari (sp?) squatted down, and peed right there!!!! It was so gross, we must have been standing on a slight incline because it started to spread in our direction. Needless to say we changed spots.

We saw an eldery lady yelling and hitting an elderly man I assume was her husband. A CM was trying to referee the whole thing. It was really bizarre. I wonder if he lost the fast passes.:confused3

the weirdest thing i have seen at Disney world was a cast member at fort wilderness campground. It was after 4:30 and went to order a pizza. When I asked the cm that I would like to order a Pizza should just starred and had no idea what I was saying. I doubt she even knew what pizza was. Then she had to call another CM to do her job. That CM knew what pizza was as apologized about her co worker unusual behavior.

Prior to adopting my daughter, she lived with a Mennonite family. Many of these families specialize in fostering children with medical disabilities. Anyway......to this day, they are still a part of our life. I feel blessed that we got to know them and their lifestyle (I will say, they are quite shocked by the TV in every room aspect of our life).

They did not have TV however, radio and print was OK. I do think that they are much less strict than the Omish.

Why do people want to show just how stupid they are.:confused3 I wished the Disney police hauled her away...people like that can mess up a vacation.
