Strange things guests say

I wish!!!

I wonder where she stays that she thinks $100 a night is really expensive.

At the last event I organized which occurred in a hugely popular summer vacation town, we had a registrant freak out at the hotel desk because he thought his $100 event registration also included 3 nights lodging at a resort hotel and was SHOCKED, I tell you, SHOCKED that it did not. He freaked out so much, the front desk called me to take him away before they called the cops. When I quietly asked him to not only read the email confirmation in his hand which explicitly stated that hotel reservations were "on your own" and separate and he brushed me off, I also asked him where he stayed that he thought he could stay in a resort hotel for $33/night (irrespective of the conference registration fee cost). He kept spluttering and telling me it was absolutely possible. I looked up his hometown and pulled up Travelocity and showed him that the Motel 6 in his podunk hometown costs more than $33/night. He did not want to hear it. Although I was able to find him a room for $45/night at the Super 8 in town, he insisted the $45 was ridiculously expensive. He ended up leaving the event. And no one cried to see him go.

I work at a hotel and it's amazing how often this happens. And we always have to call the event head to come tell the guest to basically grow up or go home. I feel for you, I've been there.

Makes you wonder what color the sky is in his world............

:rotfl2: I don't have children, but I LOVE listening to all of them in Disney.
I had a similar experience on the Kilimanjaro Safari. We were getting to the part in the ride where we are chasing the poachers down, and the little boy in front of my friends and I started freaking out. He was asking his mom, "Mommy, is this REAL?!?". My friends and I were a giggling a little at this, but then we got to the part where you go past Little Red (the animatronic baby elephant) and my friend says, "Oh, that's really sad! I can't believe they are going to make that baby elephant stay in there all day! That's pretty mean!". The rest of us just looked at him like "Are you Kidding?" We teased him about it all day. He was laughing at a little kid, but he did the exact same thing! The rest of the day on all the other rides we would ask him, "Mommy, is this real?". :rolleyes1

We were waiting to watch the EP last Sunday night, having found a good spot just across from the Hall of Presidents. A father returned from taking his kids there while the mother had stayed to save their spot. He explained to his wife that it was a fantastic show, they had hired so many actors that looked just like the presidents  She even asked if they could have been robots, but he was convinced they were real.

Overheard in Epcot, on my trip last month (June 2011):

Young boy to his mother, "Mom, Mom. Hey, MOM! I really want to go over to Norway. There is a ride there. It's called the Hail Storm."

:rotfl2:

Loving these stories. :rotfl:

My old boss thought she knew everything WDW like me. So she thought we had something in common. :rotfl2:

She constantly told me that when she calls to book the Poly they see how often she goes and they 'comp' some of her nights every single time she goes (she goes for 4 days every other year). She also said they give her complimentary TPV and concierge every time she goes because she was married in WDW.

:confused3 What WDW is she going to?:rolleyes1

I had forgotten about this, but your story reminded me. When we were there a few weeks ago, we were chatting with another family (strangers). They told me that even though they had made their vacation plans months ago, about 2 months ago the wife decided to call Disney to see if they were running any specials -- and they were -- park-hoppers for free (they only had base tickets)! They made a point to tell us that this was a $500 value. There were only 4 people in their family, so it would have only been like a $220 value even if it were true, but I was so flabbergasted that they'd make something up like this. :confused3

It doesn't bother me if the person is over 40, as it's entirely possible that the first few times they went to WDW, Magic Kingdom was all there was. In that case, to them the Magic Kingdom will always be Walt Disney World.

Yep, I'm 41 and born and raised in Tampa Florida. I call it Disney world.

On our first trip staying onsite, we had gotten free dining. As I was checking into Pop I struck up a conversation with the two ladies behind me as there was a long line. We were talking about crowds, etc. They asked if we had free dining. I stated that we did. One of the ladies then tells me very hush hush, " Don't tell other's, but you can use the free dining in the parks too! We just found this out today"!!!! :confused3 They had been at Pop for five days and had been eating all of their meals at Everything Pop. I didn't have the heart to tell them I knew this and had ADR's already!!!!:goodvibes

I don't think age has anything to do with it. I've been going to WDW since 1976, and we always called the Magic Kingdom the Magic Kingdom. "Disney World" has always meant the whole place, including the resorts. It's nothing new. It was just as wrong then as it is now. :confused3

That not as strange as you may think. I can remember in the early 80's a young employee of mine had his honeymoon at WDW. He came back all fired up about how great everything was and was especially impressed with the Hall of the Presidents. He thought that that must be an awful job to stand there all day in period costume and do nothing but stand, nod and listen. When I explained that they were "robots" he didn't believe it, he was absolutely sure those were actors. This was before the WWW but there were ways to research it, he did and was finally convinced that they were indeed animatronics. He was equally impressed with that knowledge.

While standing in line for Splash Mountain a couple in front of us was looking at the Magic Kingdom Map. The woman said "where is Animal Kingdom on this map" Her husband said "there it is, the Jungle Cruise, they must have changed the name"

That same day while in line for Splash Mountain again, the ride had to be stopped for a thunderstorm. The man in front of us look at me and said he could not believe this. I told him the day before we were getting ready to board Test Track and the ride was shutdown due to weather. But just to wait and the storm should pass quickly. He pulled out his Magic Kingdom map and asked where Test Track was. I told him it was in Epcot. He turned to his wife and said Epcot is not part of Disney World.

"Is there a person inside Mickey?"

Ummm no.. is there a person inside you?!?!??! geesh!

Last month my wife and I were eating breakfast on the balcony at our room at AKL. Our neighbors opened their door and what sounded like a lady with a young boy started talking. The lady then points over the railing and says, "there's a wooly mammoth... Or whatever it's called."

The animals grazing on the savannah were actually ankole cattle. We looked at each other, eyes wide, struggling to keep the laughter contained until we got back in our room with the door closed. I still struggle with the idea of a person that confuses a cow with really big horns with a big hairy elephant that has been extinct for thousands of years.

After our first trip, I called them Angora Cattle for a long time. DS wanted to know every animal's name, so I learned them all - correctly, except for the rabbit-cow. For Christmas this past year, I got an angora sweater from DH - my mom, dad, brother and SIL couldn't understand why we started laughing hysterically at the sweater - until I explained to DS that it was an angora sweater, like the cattle at Disney. From then on, when it was cold, DS would ask if I was wearing my cow sweater!

I've never heard anything particularly strange from strangers bur these are hilarious! I'll be sure to pay attention to my surroundings next time!

These are great! My sil is (still) planning an August Disney trip. She was planning to go through a travel agent even though she knows we've been a bunch of times and LOVE planning Disney trips for us - and for others. Anyway, she finally asked us to help her plan it. She definitely wants to stay on-site and:

"We want to be at the resort that's closest to Disney World."

She also wanted to know about the Disney bus transportation - are they city buses that go throughout town and everything?

:upsidedow

Good luck with that planning. Maybe a pop up picture book would be helpful. :rotfl:

We even loaned her our personalized maps that we order for scrapbooking purposes and she still doesn't understand how it works. She's also an engineer. Lol!:lmao:

I love the fact that so many stupid people visit Disney. Nothing better than making fun of people who don't wrap their lives around Disney. I need to hear more please!!!
