Strange St. Maarten Incident.

So sorry to hear of your experience. I am glad you posted this info - I would have done the same thing; and you can rest assured that we will not shop there when we sail on the eastern cruise this fall. If it had happened to me, I would have made my son a new necklace... out of the owner's teeth. Anyone grabs my son, they're in serious trouble. I admire your restraint and diplomacy, but I just know I would have lost it. I would have floored the jerk. So good for you for handling it the right way, and thanks again for posting this!

Grrrrr.....

'Beano'

i admire you because i would not have had that much maturity, grab my kid you get hit, plain and simple, as a mother nothing could ever anger me more then that,
i', ticked off reading about it and iwasn't even there

Thank you to both posters who posted their ecounters. That is terrible. I don't have any plans to cruise there, but I will keep that filed in case we ever do, and I will certainly pass the word along to anyone that I can.
I can't believe that someone would act that way, not just to an adult, but especially to a child. I think that you handled it in the appropraite matter and did the right thing. And I'm especially glad that you posted it here. Everyone should be aware of this place, and they deserve to be put out of business. I'm sure that your DS did nothing to break that cheap necklace. Besides, he probably paid $1 for it, and was making $9 off of it! Oh, the nerve of some people. I'm just glad to hear that DCL went above and beyond to try and make it up to your DS! :cheer2:

We where on the 2-5-05 cruise this past Feb and we went to St. Marteen. This was our third trip. We don't do much shopping there as we do it in St. Thomas. Glad we didn't. I can't believe he grabbed your child! You showed remarkable grace as I would have gone nuts. Nobody touches my child. My jaw dropped as I was reading this. I am glad things worked out and as usual Disney did their majic. I will pass and tell this to all I know. :confused3

Thanks so much for the "head's up"! We'll be sure to avoid both of these stores on our first Disney Eastern this fall.

While I told the Disney customer service person that I was not seeking any form of compensation, after all it was not something they had any control over, she said she would try to do something for him.

The next night the oval table in our room was sprinkled with silver Mickeys, an 8x10 Photo of all the Characters with the Magic as a background, a large Woody doll and a birthday certificate and button.

A nice gesture we thought. Then again maybe they do the same for all birthday boys?

We've been on the cruise a couple times on or near my oldest's birthday (going again this year), and I can tell you, Disney does NOT do this for all the birthday boys. At best, they will (if they are still handing them out) give a "It's my birthday!" cloisonee pin. Otherwise, they will offer you the chance to purchase a birthday package such as your son received, though frankly, I think not nearly as nice as he received.

Like other posters, I am shocked at the way the shop owner manhandled your son. I would not have handled the situation so well. Unfortunately, our cruise this year is on the west coast, or I would print several of copies of your post and tape them up along the pier leading to the shop.
