I have had the weirdest pain in both of my feet for months now. It isn't awful although I'd be happy without it. It's annoying. It doesn't matter what shoes I wear, my heels hurt. It doesn't feel like some sort of thing under the surface or anything. They just ache, like I'm walking too hard on cement when I'm not. :upsidedow

If I walk barefoot for awhile the pain will go away somewhat. But it takes a pretty good amount of time.

Has anyone experienced this? My shoes aren't worn out or anything. The soles look brand new. I've thrown out shoes only to find the same problem with others. :headache: I've used the cushion inserts too. They don't seem to help. I haven't had an injury. It's just frustrating.

If you have dealt with it, what did you do to alleviate the problem?

It sounds like Plantar fasciitis. Here is a good place to read about it:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0004438/

I find when I get a flare up, if I stretch my foot while I am sitting and get up and walk around every so often it isn't as bad. Make sure your shoes have good arch support, too. Unfortunately, unless you can stay off your feet for a week or so, you just have to get through the flare up. Bummer, believe me, I know!

Thank you!!

I will definitely look into that! It's the craziest thing, never had any problem with anything like that. Came out of nowhere! I hope I can get to the bottom of it and just get it to fade away. :)

I agree that it sounds like plantar fasciitis. Read up on it and take measures to try to control it on your own. You don't want it to flare out of control.

Yes it does. Thanks. :)

I am going to get a handle on it. I have too much to do for this thing to get any worse!

I developed a case of fasciitis after wearing flip-flops for an entire summer. I have to be really careful with footwear now.

If you're not opposed to visiting a podiatrist at this point, it might be a good idea. While you're not in pain now, they can probably help you keep it at bay. Some custom orthotics might work for you.

I'm going to reevaluate all my shoes now too. I was just looking at the soles, but I need to look at some other factors now too.

ETA- How long did it take you to feel relief? Did any one thing help you more than another?

I'm not opposed at all. I think for now I have some research to do. I would like to see if I can take some measures to get on the right track. I won't wait long now that I have an idea.

It's funny. It was just annoying. I haven't mentioned it to anyone else, not even my DH. I didn't think it was anything but something small. :upsidedow I'm glad I have an idea now.

Oh Annie, one of my favorite Dis'ers with foot pain :sad1:.

I have PF on and off. First got it about 14 years ago. Doc ordered the X Ray and you could see the little hookie thingies that were causing me so much pain! I made an appointment for the orthotic inserts. Waited about 4 weeks for those. But by the time they arrived, the pain was gone! Without wearing them, :confused3

Apparently, the little spur thingies can break off and the pain goes away.

I got them again about 8 years later, for a couple of months and then they disappeared again. But I wore the orthotics when the pain came back. But they don't seem to help that much.

For me, if the pain returns, I will not tread lightly on those heels!:thumbsup2

I hope yours are short-lived too.:goodvibes

Is the pain more intense in the morning when you first get up? that is when my PF was the worst. I went to the podiatrist and they took x-rays. They wrapped my foot for a couple of weeks, and gave me a cortizone injection, and a rx for a pain reliever and instructions to ice my foot. It went away in a couple of weeks, but I have to wear inserts in my shoes and I can't wear cute little flip flops anymore.

I also had to wear a night splint for a while. there is some great info on the internet, but if it persists, I would see a podiatrist.

 Muushka  Thank you!

I'm glad it didn't last too long for you. Hope it doesn't come back!

I'm thinking I caught it kind of early. I hope I can nip it in the bud soon.
I feel like I have to tread lightly on my heels. I'm such a tender foot right now. :upsidedow

Darn, I had been wanting to walk and eventually run, but I think go with bicycling for awhile. I have an old stationary bike.

It's such a zoo in the morning, I couldn't tell you! So much going on. I guess not too bad or it would be on top of my radar. All I can think of is how the ache gets worse as the day wears on. Sometimes I'm walking on my toes just to keep the ache at bay. Not often. Just at it's worse.

Definitely sounds like PF. I have issues from time to time, but I am really really bad about wearing shoes without the insert or without proper support. I do know that a suggestion was cortisone shots, but I am not sure how long that lasts. My pain comes and goes and I know when I have worn my flip flops too many days. I am still in the stage where I can get relief from ibprofens.

I just took some. I'm going to prop my feet up for a bit.

Mine is usually worse during the winter when I wear shoes. In the summer when I wear flip flops, it usually stops hurting completely. I do wear ones like Reef or Kustoms that form to your foot and give you more support. Icing your heel, along with lots of proper stretches will lessen the pain. But the stretches are something you have to keep up with. Actually I'm sitting here at my desk with mine stretching right now! I'm in the middle of the worst flareup I've ever had and it's almost unbearable at this point.

I'm strange, I only have it in one foot.

The thing that I do when I'm having a flare, (like now) is I take a 1/2 liter water bottle, fill it about 85% with water and freeze it. Then, several times a day, I'll take it out of the freezer and roll it with my foot on the floor. It irritates another issue I have, but it definitely helps the PF.

I'm another one who spent the money on the orthotics and they didn't help.

OP, the cheap cute flip flops are bad, because they'll cause PF to flare. You might want to switch around what shoes you wear and avoid wearing the same ones day after day.

Sorry you're going through it too. It can slow you down that's for sure.

Are the stretches mainly like pointing your toes up and then down? I'm going to look that up.

I have(had) PF. Don't go barefoot at all. I don't wear the same shoes 2 days in a row. I freeze a water bottle & roll it under my foot when flare ups happen. I can't wear flats at all.

Thanks for the tips!

I have been wearing my shape up shoes. I bet that's a no-no too. :headache:

My mom had a little ramp thingy that she would stand on. Your toes would be elevated somewhat and you would do it for a few minutes several times a day. You can also stand on a step, stool, book or anything that you can stand on your toes and lean forward so your heels are off the step. I have a big ankle support and i bought one of those things that you put in a lunch bag to keep it cold that looks like several seperate ice pillows. I wrap it around my heel inside the support and leave it as long as I can stand the ice at night. If you'll message me your email, I'll send you some pictures so you can have a better idea. I've also heard many people say that a glass Coke bottle is the perfect fit for your insole and to fill it with ice and water. I don't know how you would freeze it because i think it would bust. Usually my pain goes away after a few days of ice and stretches, but this time it's a little worse. I sit at my desk with my foot pushed up against the front of my desk with my chair where it won't roll and do my stretches during the day.

I have PF, along with some ligament damage in one of my feet and a knee that has been sprained on the other leg (dance injuries). I ahve jst had to learn to deal with it. I am never pain free. I have tried icing, stretching, ect and they all help short term but nothing really provides lasting relief. I have to be really careful with shoes, and there is so much that I just cannot wear. Disney is always tough for me with the amount of walking we do.
