Strange Children's names...

Perhaps this isn't that unusual, but a cute story. When my DH and I learned we were expecting a girl we asked DS (then 2) what we should name her. He thought for a moment and then said, "Cinderella!" Well, we couldn't exactly name her Cinderella, but her name is Caileen Ella.

Why couldn't you name her Cinderella? That'd be one name that would CERTAINELY be unique. :rotfl:

And she would probably love it now...she is a huge Princess fan. However, I'm not sure she would appreciate it too much in ten years!

Worst name I ever heard of: Ima Lima Bean.

Some peolpe think our daughter's name is different. Koryn--(pronounced like Corrinn) We like it. Her middle name is Emma. What I get a kick out of is our families use of the first initial....

My family

Kevin (DB)
Kim (Dsis)
Karla (me)
Kira (niece)
Kieren (nephew)
Koryn (daughter)

My sister is expecting in October, only thing we know for sure is that they are not naming it with a K name! :rotfl:

Here are some others...

Jerry
Joan
Jerry (married a Jennifer)
Janet
Jim

Dennis
Donna
Dean
Donald (sons - Collin, Cody, Carter)

When I was engaged, two of my college friends decided to come up with names for our future kids....

Karla (me) Carlton (DH)

Some of the names...

Carlotta
Carlimonious
Carlonia

See a pattern here??? :rotfl2:

Needless to say we did not even consider any of their name suggestions!

My Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother and I all start with a "J". I married a "J". Needless to say I broke the trend. ;)

Jenn, thats funny about your ILs. You just have to take them with a grain of salt. When we had Drew my Granny had a big fit because we didn't name him Andrew. I really liked Andrew, but hate Andy, and didn't want ANY chance of someone shortening Andrew to Andy, so we just went with Drew. She was annoyed because Drew isn't a real name in her mind. :confused3 So she started calling him Timothy. What was funny was we all just ignored her. She'd say, "Timothy do you want a cookie?" and all of us, including Drew, just pretended like we didn't hear her. :rotfl: Eventually she got the message that as much as SHE liked the name Timothy, it still wasn't going to be his name. :p

I have a very unique first and middle name that gets messed up all of the time.
It is Elantrice Birgitta
(E-lan-tris Ber-gee-ta)

All I know is that my aunt named me. I heard my middle name during a Miss Universe Pagent one year. The woman was from Switzerland. My middle name was also said during The Princess Diaries 2. When Mia's maids introduce themselves to her. I think it was the second one who has my middle name because the other says her name is Bridgette

I have been told stories about my father carring around my name on a piece of paper after I was born because he had a hard time saying it. :rotfl:

So you know I was given a nickname - Lannie. Eveyone in the family could say that :rotfl2:

My best friend in 7th grade was named Andrea, but her parents ALMOST named her Autumn Electra. Her sister is Amanda Forresta (pronounced Fo-rees-ta after her dad, Forrest). :confused3

I don't think I would expect anything less from your Granny. :teeth:

I have a second cousin named Sunny Easter Day

I grew up down the street from a family that had 9 kids, all whose names began with the letter J.

Everybody we meet is like "Oh..what an unusual name. Is he named after St.James?". NO he is not. :rotfl:

We like it because it's something you don't hear every day. And NO we do not call him Jim or Jimmy or Jimbo. I hate those nicknames. We call him by his name or Bugs or Bugsy (long story).

TOV
That is interesting because my ds is James as well and people ask me why I went with such a common name after my dds Kyra (long eee sound) and Kayla. But ds was named after his Dad who is called Jim We call Ds James to avoid the big Jim little Jim and I despise the name Jimmy.

I do research and to get subjects we have to look up birth announcements. If this is your child I appologize-

Paris Skye Monet _________ (last name)

I know a bunch more but thats the strangest.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That is the funniest story!! I can just picture someone's granny doing that!

BTW...my son Andrew is also known as Drew. He has no clue who Andy is if someone uses that name. :goodvibes

I've come across lot's of unusual names at school. Last year I had a Precious ( yes, she was ;) ). I used to get a lot of stares from other staff members when I would say " Precious, time to line up " . One staff member even asked me if I called all my kindergarteners precious- I told her just the ones named Precious :) . Not really a kid, but I came across a CM in MK this past July whose nametag read " Tyger "- and yes, I asked his last name ( it was Cat ) :sunny:

I knew a girl in high school whose sister's first and middle names were Lesby Anne :confused3 ...she went by Leb.

I grew up living next to a family who named all of their daughters after the month in which they were born:

Augustina - for August
Julydia (pronounced Jewel-idia) - for July
Janulita (Pronounced Jan-You-Lita) - for January...we called her Jan
Februlina (Pronounced Feb-You-Lina) - for February...we called her Feb
Junella (pronounced June-Ella) - for June

My sister's nephew (through marriage) is named Zephyr. They are expecting another one and we're all speculating on the name.

She also teaches preschool and has a Liberty in her class. Which I kind of like.

I have a 16 yr old cousin named Aurelia (Or-real-e-a). I guess it was my great grandmothers middle name or something. Her mom's name is Doot (like boot but w/ a D).

My husbands family has some really weird names- he has a 20 something year old female cousin named Douglena (after grandpa Doug), his grandmother is Idella. His aunts are Leota and Ila.

Growing up in school we had twins that were named Love and Peace. (Boy and girl). Also, I went to school w/ an Autum. My sister is named Carly. Not uncommon now, but she's in her late 20's and NOBODY ever got it right back then.

My son's name is Ian, and I can't believe the number of people who have never heard of the name before. They want to pronounce it with a long i, or they will ask me how to spell it. I thought Ian was a common name.

I love the name Ian!

there's a kid in my class who's name is pagamas, pronounced like pajamas, you know the kind you wear to bed. i also had a friend in h.s. who's name was fish, literally his parents were ex hippies.
