I have a friend named Sandy Beach. sad sad. I LOVE the name Kalen... like Kalen Pimentel the baseball player.

HEY......... i have read thru this entire thread to see what others posted and thought, gee, my neighbor's name is not as weird as some already posted.

lo and behold, i read the above post......my next door neighbor is named...
SANDY BEACH........

We named our youngest Liam, which was pretty unique at the time, but has gain popularity lately. Our triplets were all "L" names, so he could not be left out. We joked about naming him Lucky since he was gonna be "lucky" to get anything to eat since we had all those kids or Langiappe because he was "a little something extra"! :rotfl:

At a recent dr's visit, a nurse was telling me that she had another patient named Liam, but that his mother pronounced it "Yum" because he was named after his daddy...whose name was William. :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Jenn Lynn: The name Elias is alright. That was going to be my sister's middle name if she was a boy.

I once met a little boy whose name was Freedom.

My friend and her siblings are named Sharon, Karen, Darren, and Aaron.

I haven't heard a lot of odd names yet.

My middle name is Fond - named after a great aunt Fondaelite.

My friend named her son Tyrsyn. I didn't know how to pronounce it for a while, so I just asked "how's your son?" when talking to her.

Some of the names parents make up can be strange. My friend had just delivered her beautiful little girl, when the nurse came into the hosptal room, and had to explain to her room mate, who had also just delivered, why she could not name her new daughter "VaJinia".

My DD's name is Savannah Caitlyn. When she was born in CT almost 15 years ago one of the nurse's told me she had never heard a name like that!!!

Im a Caitlin and was born in 1971. My mother had the same thing happen. Her OB, who heard all sort sof baby names, asked "WHERE did you get that name???" He had never heard of it. By the time I was 10-15 it was one of the most common names around. Thats good though...people think Im younger than I am, LOL!

Where did you get Elias? Is it a disney thing or just a name you liked? (wasnt it Walter Elias Disney?)

Last week I asked MIL what the relatives thought about it and she said, with hesitation, "It's different." LOL!

ROFL! I get that with Colton. I either hear, "Oh Colton, I like that", or "What is it? Colton? Ohhhh, thats different." And its always said in the same sing songy voice. :teeth:

My neighbors have 2 DD named Teale and Amber (colors) They claim they "didn't even think about that" when they named them. How could you NOT think about it??????

We have a kindergartener at my school named ---- ADOLF! I swear!

My cousin named their new baby son Cyler

My DD is named after me -- Karis (pronounced like Paris) my name is Kari.

My best friend's daughter is SO sweet - it's Ella Kayt (pronounced like Kate)

I worked with a woman named Mavis Davis.

I love the name Abbott for a little boy, but my husband said it was WAY too weird. I still regret not naming my little boy Abbott.

I hate it when someone that I think is a neat, cool person names a baby a "bad" name. One girl I know named her baby Katherine (ugh) another named her little boy Johnathon. No offense to those names, but they are SO square. There are too many neat names out there to use a name like Katherine. YUCK!

Oh I almost forgot - My mom went to school with a girl named Maxine - who EVERYONE called Maxi - all her life. She married a man named Shields. Maxi Shields - wouldn't that stink?

My nephew is named after the baseball bat brand that my DB used all during his baseball years. His name is Easton.

Hey, the good thing is ... you can buy all sorts of sports equipment with his name already on it! :goodvibes

Nothing to do with Disney. I liked Eli, but didn't want his name to just be Eli. Elijah reminded me of a Hobbit. (I know, I watch too much LOTR.) Plus I wanted something not common, but not too out there. Too many Jennifer's around. ;)

I posted this not long ago on another tread..but here goes again. These names are not repulsive...but a bit unusul. These are in my family.

Brantley (girl- usually a boy name)
Dominga (girl-not sure where my aunt got it)
Dalex (boy)
Chance (boy, unheard of 14 years ago when he was born)
Macall
Stone (friend's son)

Lots of double names like the pp pointed out, they are common here in the south.

Lorie-Brooke
Michael Lake
John Edward
John David
Saylor Grace

names I've heard in community
John Hiller
Forrest
Barnes
Mary Reed
Mary Ragan
Mary Emory
John Wesley
Emma Kate
I could go on for days. I worked on Labor and Delivery for 5 years, I began thinking that names like Ashley, Emily, Jennifer, etc. are becoming the odd and unusual names of the 21st Century.

OK, one more thing, I know someone who knows a couple whose name is Sunny and Barry Cherry...I laugh everytime I hear that :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Not strange but a friend named her DSs Colton and Chase. Never heard those before and now someone on Disboards has a Colton too.

DD's name was not popular when I named her. It is growing in popularity though. I know a few of our relatives didn't like it. Which is why I did not tell them DS's name. They knew about Eli, but not his full name, Elias Jacob. Last week I asked MIL what the relatives thought about it and she said, with hesitation, "It's different." LOL! FIL can't get it right (calls him Elijah) and DH's Grandma says she is going to call him EJ because she can't remember Elias. We let that one go because she is 80. No one else better try it! ;) :)

I love Elias. I really do. I think it's a great name, and I would love to use it for DS number 3.

For the poster who wants another T name........do you have a Tavish yet? I like it, also Tobias is nice.

I forgot several more:

Friend of mine taught Pedro Conejo (Peter Rabbit in spanish........the Peter Abbott post reminded me), my brother was going to name his child Emerald if it was a girl (it wasn't), and Bronc.

Colton is common here. There was an Easton on my younger son's baseball team (I like it). Paige was unusual when I was small, but is pretty popular now.

Oh, and Xochitl...........mom pronounces it sort of like "social".

There are a lot of references to urban legend names on here. I wonder if people are hearing them and deciding to do it for real, or if these are "friend of a friend"-type stories.

And, those of you in the Dakotas, would you believe they used Nakota because Dakota was too common?

One side of my family uses T names. They were running out so they started making up new ones. My cousin's name is Tret. He is the only one I know with this name.

Yes, we would believe it. We (or at least the person typing this) are very interested in the popularity of names/meanings of names, and are never surprised anymore. Some people shouldn't be allowed to name children. They shouldn't even be allowed to name most pets, with the possible exception of fish.

The Dakotas

There is a boy named "Chase Me Ricky"(first and middle names)-honestly that's his real name and a young lady whose name was April May June Bud--hmmm....... bet she was glad to get married and drop the Bud!

I named my son Jerry Michael, . His full initials are JME and his nickname is Jamie because when you pronounce his initials, you get J-ME. I had to make up a nickname or my husband's family would have made up one that I didn't like. All kids that are named after their fathers are given nickname to make it easier to sort them out from their fathers. My husband is known as Juggy -- had a jughead when he was little. THe main reason that I let my firstborn be named after his Dad is so that I could have complete LEEWAY with all the other kids. Plus he is a third and I wanted to call him "Third" That idea was shot down immediately. Ooooh I can't wait. I have made lists of baby names since I was little. Here are some of my choices:

Girl Names
Ahseya -- (My name backwards - Ayesha, but only of the baby looks like me/baby pic of me at birth. She will be my mirror image. Get it!) Husband may balk at this! :confused3

Jaya -- (Combo of Jerry and Ayesha) Pronounced Jy-ya

Reagan (I like it)

Avery Kidada -- Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton's daughter's name (Kidada)

Micah (similar to Michael)

Soledad

Aiden

Kaden

Ryan

Mahalia (Husband hates this name. But Mahalia Jackson was such a strong black woman. Who can forget her after seeing Imitation of Life. Plus she wont run into anyone with her name!!

Boys Names
Kolby

Ahmad

Khalil

Landon (family name)

My goal is to have a unique name that isn't too outlandish. I never thought that I would have a "Jamie". Life is interesting. I can't wait to see what I may have next. Did I mention that hubbie says "I'm happy with only one child." What the H@!*?

Love Ya, Mean It,
Ayesha Kamice
(Arabic meaning -- not dead, living, to prosper) Kamice (Dad says he read Kamice in a book, book not located at this date-- 29 years later :earseek: ) ,

sister to Shanika Dawn (named Shanika before it was bas-tard-ized into Shanequas and Shaniques and Shaneekas. Sometimes my sister goes by S. Dawn and wonders why she was lucky :confused3 enough to be named Shanika. My parents were really into the whole Civil Rights/Co-Op Movement)

sister to Akinyele (Swahili for valor of the house) no middle name, parents thought first name was enough. Loves his name.

daughter to Alfred X (yeah, like Malcolm)

daughter to Edna Patricia (can you get any plainer)

Yeah, I am fascinated with names!!! :wave2: :sunny: :cool1:

LOL! Thats me. :wave2: I had never heard the name either and a few months after my oldest was born I had on the Jenny Jones show while I was cleaning house. It was about obese kids, and one of the kids on the show was named Colton. I immediately fell in love with the name. Ironcially I have heard people here say its a very trendy name, but I guess in this area it isnt...at least not yet. ;)
