Strange Children's names...

When I worked in schools, there was one family where they dad was named Lyle. He had his son, Lyle Jr. and then his daughters, Lyline, Lylette and Lylily.
There was another family whose first DD was Brandy and the other children were named for other alcoholic beverages. I don't remember all the names, but I know one was named Korbel (a brand of brandy).

I grew up with a family whose father was Michael, and the three kids were Michael, Mitchell and Michelle.

I am now teaching my 23rd class in elementary school, so I've encountered many names...............these are the ones I remember right now........

Ethnic names (probably not strange in their cultures):
Senmon (boy)
Antony (boy)........pronounced an-TOE-nee
Aakash (boy)
Kavita (girl)
Bouthasone (boy)
Sethawuthi (boy)
Silke (girl)
Hamish MacIan (first and middle........was on my list but didn't show)
Raj (boy)
Samir (boy.......with brother named Samer)
Lanhah, Neya , and Rini (girls, sisters)

Place names:
London (boy)
Montana (girl and boy in same year.......not same class) (boy's middle name was King)
Dakota (girl and boy in same class)
Nakota (boy........named for North Dakota)

Colors:
Magenta (girl)
Silver Shadow (double first, no middle)

Just plain different:
Maverick (boy)
Tatum (girl)
Precious (girl)
Bubba (boy)........actual name
Regency (girl)
Kalan (boy)
Cane (boy)
Daja (girl) (brother Marsay.......pronounced like Marseilles)

Names of ones I didn't teach, but were in other classes:
Tierany (seems too much like tyranny to me) (girl)
Dbnhi (each letter stands for a word.......something like Dios something nuestro hijo.......I believe the b word is for bless, but I don't know it...pronounced DEB-nee)(boy)
Dinora (girl)
Zechariah........called Zech (boy)

Twins I've taught and haven't but knew personally, both odd and not-so-odd:
Bryson and Chandler (both boys)
Selina and Selene (both girls)
Alexia and Amber (girls)
Julie and Joseph (girl/boy)
Ifant and Stefant (boys)
German and Stephen (boys)
Lendell and Wendell (boys)
Canyon and Ridge (boys)
Anhellica and Allyssa (girls)
Trevor and Trenton (boys)
Jacob and Alec (boys)

One multi-name boy..........something like Alexander Timothy Christian David something something..........I called him Timothy.............

One girl whose name was Ellizabethh on her birth certificate, but mom variously spelled her name Elizabeth, Elizabetha, Alizabeth, Elizabethi, and Ilizabeth on different papers for school...............

And I know a family of Karl and Kimberly for the parents, Kris and Kari for the kids..........and another with Chris and Christy for parents, Christopher for the kid...............one with all Ms, and one with all Js.

I've also had several profession names: Tylers and Taylors of both sexes, Masons, Sailors of both sexes, and one Farrier (not my class).

Oh, and I forgot the four-kid family of Alejandro, Alejandra, Alejandria, and Alejandrina.

:rotfl: and I thought naming all my kids George was bad.

John George Christopher
Eleni Catherine Georgette
Christian Thomas George

I think the worst name I ever heard was DeQueervious. And you'll never guess what his idiot-for-a-mother called him :earseek:

Inspired by paigvz' post:

Please stop naming your children after the Dakotas. We want you to stop. We know because we are from N. Dakota and we asked S. Dakota, and they agreed. Nakota is where we draw the line.

Thank You

The People of the Dakotas

I dont think Teegan is strange :flower: We considered that for our ds. His name is Tavian, which some people think is very strange, but I have seen a few!

my husband's family names all boys starting with the letter T. Anybody got any creative ideas for the next one? :rotfl:

If I had been a boy, my parents were gonna name me Ty after Ty Cobb (baseball player from long ago).

I think that's a pretty cool name. :smooth:

Define strange...

Some of the names in our family:
Aunt Iva
Aunt Aurilla (we used to call her Aurilla the Gorilla)
Aunt Fayona Though I don't think it qualifies Aunt Faye named her dd Charlee. Charlee hates her name cause people call her Charlee Brown LOL.
Sergio
Madia
Evnia
Louisiana (we call him Easy)
Gunner
Hastings (I was ticked when my cousin named her dd this since it was MY name to use)
my girls Remy and Holland (Holly)
my name on my birth certificate is Angelene, but I hate having to tell people how to say it so I go by Angela now.
While I think those are normal (most are family names) the last two are strange even for our family!
I have twin 2nd cousins (they are 11 now) named Countess and Duchess. Their mom, my cousin Evnia married a man from England and is insane. We all call them Tessa and Chessa.

I have a friend named Sandy Beach. sad sad. I LOVE the name Kalen... like Kalen Pimentel the baseball player.

I have a Garren and my sister had friends growing up (twins) named Autumn and Snow. I love different names too.

My son's name is Ian, and I can't believe the number of people who have never heard of the name before. They want to pronounce it with a long i, or they will ask me how to spell it. I thought Ian was a common name.

My daughter's name is Rhiannon, which might not be universally unusual, but where I live it is.

Rhiannon was my second choice, followed by Anastasia.

I went to school with a boy named Richard Head. I'll let you guys guess what his nickname was. Even the teachers called him that, then if that wasn't bad enough, he joined the Navy! Poor guy!! I wanted to name my daughter Sara and her middle name Leigh, glad I didn't Sara Lee~

I actually knew an adult whose name was Ian and he pronounced it with a long I sound. I had never heard it that way before and pronounced his name EEEan, at which point he rudely corrected me.

I knew a girl named Nancy Ann Ciani. Robin Wormsted. Peter Abbott (that's one you have to say fast) and I also knew a Sandy Beach.

when i have a girl i want to name her Cera(sara). thats how sara is speled from land before time. love the spelling

We had a young brother and sister (twins) as patients in our office. Their first names were ....drumroll.......Female and Male (sounds like tamale)...no kidding. At best guess we could only think that after their birth, while in the nursery, mom saw Female _______. and Male ________....and thought, " That sounds good!" :)

we have a client whose name is Pepper Myntz makes me laugh everytime they page her calls overhead .

Heavenly (last name Gates)
Kandy ( last name Cain)

My DD is 19 and when she was born people thought we were nuts to name her Whitney now it is a common name .

DD's name was not popular when I named her. It is growing in popularity though. I know a few of our relatives didn't like it. Which is why I did not tell them DS's name. They knew about Eli, but not his full name, Elias Jacob. Last week I asked MIL what the relatives thought about it and she said, with hesitation, "It's different." LOL! FIL can't get it right (calls him Elijah) and DH's Grandma says she is going to call him EJ because she can't remember Elias. We let that one go because she is 80. No one else better try it! ;) :)
