Oh my goodness....honestly people....can we PLEASE stop with the rumors? I'm tired of reading about quest "speculations" (which is just another nice way of saying a rumor), and all this other nonsense. Why can't you all just wait until someone has the facts? Geez....there is nothing worse than a rumormill!

please calm down.. it is an issue yes, but you don't need to blow your top because of it.. People post rumors about VMK for one of three reasons:
1. they want attention from the rest of the board
2. they are trying to make educated guesses about what is to come using clues that staff have given, etc.
3. they really have seen something that either a staff or a tester showed them and want to let the rest of the VMKers know that it exists

that's the way i look at rumors.. and it's very self exclaimatory what the motive of the rumor poster is.. i read the thread on that site where the person claimed to have gotten "pirate ears" that is an obvious cry for attention.. if he got a card for the hat, it would have a picture of the hat on the card, therefore he would know if it was a pirate hat with a bird or pirate ears or whatever.. also, every time someone asks him to post a picture, he says i'll do it soon

and thats one of the resones ppl join vmk fans sites so they can talk about stuff like that

I think talking about a rumor is fine was long as we are VERY clear that it is just speculation.

Many people post things that they *think* will happen. Having them have an opinion and thinking what may come out is not considered a rumor at all. Rumors are being considered people saying: "So and so said this was coming out soon, or So and so said that there will be a new (____)" Many people over react about people assuming and thinking about different things as there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Well looks like to me that the Quest starting today was again just a RUMOR no quest info has been posted anywhere that I can find.

Edited to say ...that after I posted this I called VMK Central at WDW and found out that the quest did start today.

lol In my dictionary "speculation" and "rumor" have different definitions...but then again, I could just be reading the darned thing upside down, naturally lol.

Opinions are always more than welcome on a forum. Sometimes the difference is how you deliever those opinions. Just think, one word can change everything!

My opinion is that rumors are when someone makes a statement such as "The Pirate quest is coming out tomorrow. Get ready!" and they provide no substantial proof whatsoever. A speculation is when someone predicts or trys to guess what will happen. Example, "I think the pirate quest will be out tomorrow. What do you think?". In this second example, the person doesn't need proof of anything as it isn't considered "fact". This is, of course, what I view as the difference between rumor and speculation.

To voice my opinion on whether rumors are a good or bad thing and whether they are being posted all too much now...I would say rumors are never a good thing. They don't benefit anyone at any time. I have seen a few threads posting rumors...but not enough to top my patience lol.

I'm afraid I'll disappoint some of you by agreeing with the Lady.

I dislike rumor threads. Why? Because often people don't separate RUMOR
from FACT. They will hear something and repeat it to everyone that it's
a fact, and well, that bugs me.

Especially when they start to complain. "New magic was supposed to be
released on Valentine's Day. Where is it???????"

I think it's best to avoid the "So and so told me that this is happening!"
I do notice certain people I find are more reliable sources of info than
others. If these sources report something, I will readily believe they've
done some research and won't post it unless they are at least 99% sure of
it.

That's the bit of wisdom imparted unto me by a cast member the other day when I stopped by VMK Central to ask when the new Pirates quest was going to be available. "If I tell you when I think it's going to happen, she said, then you'll be impatient until then, and then if it doesn't arrive on time then you'll be annoyed! Better to not expect it, and then when it comes it'll be a nice surprise!"
