Stitch's Great Escape

Hearing you all talk about Alien Encounter makes me wish I had gotten to experience it! All I have ever known is Stitch (I was young when it was AE and apparently my parents actually listened to the warnings before)

How soon do they post when it will be open?

I am curious if it will be open 3/26 (not quite Easter break, but probably still busier) .. I may take my 4yo on it. I think he'd get a kick out of it before it goes for good. Good for at least one time through :).

I guess I'll be the odd one out, but we hated Alien Encounter. We rode it before the days of the internet and youtube, so we didn't know what to expect. We weren't scared. We just wondered why we were strapped in something that was stationary.

Hey guys so as most people know, SGE has been one of the worst rides Disney has ever had on it's premises and I will be so incredibly happy when it is gone so, does anyone know when it will finally be leaving MK? I know it only has seasonal use right now (Thank God) and thats a death sentence for most rides so I am praying that anyone knows when they will be removing the ride. Anyone??

Why so much dramatic hate? And the need to pray? Really? If you don't like it, don't go on it. It's that simple. My family happens to like it. What's your favorite attraction? How would you feel if someone told you it was dreadful and would be glad it was gone? (Not that I care, just that your post is just so full of drama)

Literally terrifying, kids screaming and crying and parents could not do a thing to console them because everyone was totally strapped in.

One kid somehow gets out of the restraints and is running around screaming. The ride stops and CM comes in to rescue the kid and release the mom and brother. I can't remember if we had to all exit or not but I do remember wanting to say I TOLD YOU SO!

You were never strapped in its the same system as Stitch.

But yes it was super immersive. I think they consulted torture expects to fine tune it. :) But no amount of warnings could thoroughly explain how scary it was. All attractions at WDW have all kinds of warnings that everyone just ignores.

I think the issue with replacing it is that they probably want to conserve the "theater in the round" seating. Maybe they should bring back Journey to the Moon.

I beg to differ on this point, in AE you were strapped in with a full overhead harness (rollercoaster-like). The premise of the ride being that you were in a spaceship with the alien contained center stage - which of course manages to escape.
Well done...TERRIFYING...but well done!

Not quite it didn't come over your chest and if you needed to get out you just pushed it up. The harness was was not to hold you in, well it pretended to hold you in, but to properly place the speakers next to you ears and the Aliens "tongue" on top of your head.

Its exactly the same harness used to today.

I agree -- you were definitely strapped in. Maybe not literally with "straps" but you were held in place with that harness and there was no getting out (at least as an adult) until you were released. I did not enjoy that ride experience AT ALL. I'm terribly claustrophobic and between the pitch black room and that harness, I nearly had a panic attack. Yes, I should have believed all of the warnings but I wanted to try it. While I hated the ride personally, I thought it was well done and I could see how some people would really like it. Just not me. I haven't even considered going on Stitch -- AE scarred me for life. lol.

ETA: I was not able to lift my harness during the ride. I tried. Just having that thing off of my shoulders would have gone a long way in relieving my anxiety during the ride. Maybe I had a faulty one, but there was no way to lift it up while the attraction was still running. Believe me, I tried.

I wonder if they are going to keep the same seats for Wreck it Ralph. Oh did you know a sequel is coming out in 2018 so I would hope thats when the ride will be ready.

One could easily slip out of the harness at Stitch/AE. Alien Encounter was a magnificent fun attraction IMO and Stitch is just a waste of space. I just hope whatever they replace it with is not another waste of space.

My kids both love Lilo and Stitch so we have to ride it every time we go. We are going in a few days, and I asked if we could skip it this time. Nope...

I recall they worked just like for Stitch. They came down and measured your shoulder height and then rose back up.

But yes I recall it being very terrifying even for a 40 year old me and my 6 year younger sister. My wife wouldn't let my 2 7 and 8 year old sons ride it and she may have been right.

But as for it being not for kids, when it was AE it had a height requirement to try to filter out the younger ones. I had heard stories of kids not making the height and because of how it loaded it was real easy to just chuck the kid over the railing after the entrance and I'm assuming that they were not too concerned about remeasuring kids that snuck in.

Your response feels more dramatic than the OP. I can't imagine anyone caring or being offended/taking it personally if someone voiced their dislike of a beloved attraction. It's just somebody's opinion of a theme park attraction LOL.

It likely won't be open when you go. It is currently operating as seasonal and hasn't been open since Jan. 2nd.

Did you ever experience it when it was Alien Encounter? That was the most horrible attraction I have ever experienced. Literally terrifying, kids screaming and crying and parents could not do a thing to console them because everyone was totally strapped in. Although there were like 400 warning signs before loading that the experience might be terrifying for kids (and adults!) many parents just assumed it would be a "Disney" friendly ride and then lived to regret the assumption.
I never rode it and I am glad I didn't, I didn't like alien encounter at all, I think it should be in a park like Universal or Disney Springs so I am actually the unpopular opinion that I hated both! haha, I just want a better ride to fill in it's space, maybe something that fits in better with Tomorrowland.

Thank you! I just voiced my opinion on my extreme dislike of the ride (everyone has their own opinion) and I don't know why they got so mad over it. I'm a dramatic person in general so it's just how I usually am! lol

I love Stitch, it is one of my favorites, Give me back my chili dog.... I hope it is still there in Sept....
