This ride gets waaaay to much hate IMO. Is it the best ride at MK? Of course not, but it is a solid ride and I don't want newbies to skip it just because of the rep it seems to have around here. It's got some of the scary/gross factor for the boys, and Stitch gets to meet Cinderella at the MK castle for the girls, how is that not awesome.

Also, no it is not too scary for kids. I took DD (then 6) onto it because she's a huge Stitch fan and we rode it 3 times in a row the first time we went on it. Granted some kids may not like it because part of it is in a dark room, but just watch the ride on Youtube and judge for yourself. I almost skipped this ride based on what everyone was saying, so glad I didn't.

Post here if you like the ride, mostly so other newbies see the ride isn't horrible and don't miss out on a fun time. And yes, I expect this to be a very short thread

I think it's fine. I don't get where all the hate comes from, but it's not on my list of must-dos (but neither is the Tiki Room and no one hates on that this much!).

I've never done it. I absolutely was terrified of alien encounter it was the scariest ride I have ever been on! Not a good experience so that's why I have steered clear of stitch! Maybe I will have to check it out with my boys this year! They r 7 and 11

It's not bad, and it is 1000 times better than Alien Encounter. THAT was just wrong on so many levels. :rotfl2:

I like the attraction just fine.

The reason its in the dark is that it is predominantly an AUDIO attraction.

Many guests don't appreciate these (Sounds Dangerous at DHS was also an audio attraction... now gone.)

The audio attractions use a special kind of Stereo sound (called Binaural recording) to create a "living atmosphere" that appears to come from AROUND the guests.

The shoulder piece that comes down during the show contains the headphone speakers that create the sound for the guest.

The whole presentation is very impressive from a technical standpoint, but many guests are so caught up in the "lights are out, I can't see" that they miss the show.

:)

For whatever reason, AE was the first attraction we did on our honeymoon. We both came out of there and said, "What was that?!?" Two years later, we went on a trip with DH's family. We took his sister and her husband to AE, and didn't warn them at all. They were not happy! :rotfl2:

Stitch replaced Alien Encounter (AE) at MK.

AE was, without a doubt, (when it was open) THE most-despised, most-reviled, most-complained-about attraction on this and any other Disney board from the day it opened.

The AE-lovers were certainly in HIDING back then.

I have vivid memories of the hundreds (it seemed) of threads back then that demanded Disney remove the vile AE from the park!

I liked AE, but most people I talked to did NOT.
I still find Stitch to be so SIMILAR to AE that the biggest difference I can put my finger on is that S.I.R. is no longer in the PRE-show.

So was AE despised so much because it was too scary? Or just lame? It must have been before my time, because I don't remember that one at all.

I actually really liked AE, and while I don't HATE Stitch, I'd prefer that AE were still there.

Your memory of people's reaction to that attraction is skewered, at best.

Scary!!! Also, it just didn't really seem very "Disney". Totally bizarre.

Interesting! I haven't seen the Alien movie either so I have no point of reference here. The Stitch re-theme does make more sense though. I would imagine it would be hard to feel real terror from a cartoon like Stitch, where I could see being thoroughly creeped out by something like Alien (from the references that I have seen).

I remember alien encounter being one of the first rides we went on ever at disney and it really scared me and my younger brother. We were kinda worried the rest of the rides would be as bad!!!
Stitch is cool, a bit dated but harmless. It's become a bit of a tradition to do first at MK! A nice warm up attraction to get us in the disney spirit!

DH went on it for first time last week. He said it was cute, but the chili breath was gross. I said it couldn't be worse than 4 kids, dogs and cats.

DD and DDiL went after him and they didn't get chili breath, but they liked it also.

I skipped it because of the little guy. And you are correct, we didn't have it on our priorities because of all the chatter of "skip this." DH and the girls said they are glad they checked it out.

:stitch:

OP, did you ever do Alien Encounter?
It was MUCH better. I preferred the storyline and the fact that the alien 'came after you' instead of Stitch breathing on you.

I was on a business conference years ago and a buddy and I decided to take his sons 7 & 5 on AE. To this day I will never forget the sight of both their heads buried in his chest with him wrapping his arms around their heads to cover their ears while screaming "IT'S NOT REAL, IT'S NOT REAL" over and over.

It never even crossed my mind that people hated this attraction before I came to these boards. It seemed just as good as any other attraction, except the biggies.

My husband and kids thought it was fun. Our little guy was 5 on that trip, and Stitch was the attraction he asked to do a second time while the big kids and I did Space Mountain. :confused3 I didn't care for it at all, so I'm glad that papa went and did that the second time and I got to do Space with the big kids.
