Stitch Replacement?

It sounds great to me....I love the Despicable Me ride and love WIR....seems like a great combo to me!

Can they at least save the animatronic and put him on reinstall somewhere else on property? That animatronic is amazing

Hate to almost double post or leave a post edited, but wow someone's idea of a wreck it Ralph simulator is actually coming true! Couple years ago someone did a wish online comparing the sizes of soundstage 1 at mgm and soundstage 42 at universal (the one that has despicable me in it just in case you were wondering) and they said that exact ride system as well. Hopefully we get two theaters for that though, the one in Florida has a painfully low capacity. Hollywoods was weird but fascinating to stare at that leaked blueprint that my asinine father won't let me retrieve off of his computer :(

The thread over at WDWMagic where the rumor originated pretty clearly lays out that it's a 3D ride, more similar to say Universal rides, featuring Wreck It Ralph. Now, they may be wrong - but that's the rumor.
The IP isn't locked down but yes I said above that it would be 3D simulator similar to Despicable Me at Universal.

I adore Stitch. He's a crazy little reminder to me that I should let my inner Stitch out a little more often sometimes. I would love to see him get a better ride. And I agree with what a PP said - you can walk into any Disney store and find Stitch merchandise, so the franchise must still be popular. It also sells well at Hot Topic, indicating a cultural relevance, or "cult following" that I'm sure Disney enjoys capitalizing on.

Yes please, I'll take whatever they are thinking about or haven't thought about. Please.

I like the movie, but the attraction for it is so bad, I don't even like walking passed it. Journey into a Imagination and Ellen's Energy Adventure are classics compared to Stitch.

I'll take anything in that spot, including a bathroom. The Stitch attraction is awful. I agree that Stitch should have some kind of attraction or even show, but this current catastrophe is just awful in its present state.

I remember seeing this attraction when it was still the Alien Encounter and it scared the bejeezus out of me. When I saw they changed it to Stitch, curiosity got the best of me and I gave it a try and came off feeling nauseous and disappointed. I'm surprised this attraction had a run time as long as it has anyway. This is something that should have always been temporary while a better permanent solution was found.

I've never liked the Stitch attraction, it's just a room where they hold you down for about 15 minutes. I didn't like Alien Encounters either, but at least it was a little scary.

It'll be tricky fitting a new ride into Stitch's space between WEDway and Mickey's Star Traders ... but I hope they succeed.

It's not really a ride but a simulator within the existing stitch building. Think sort of like a star tours simulator but probably larger and a bit different. So the "ride" doesn't actually go anywhere.

I don't ever remember seeing a line for that one. Perhaps pulling it out for something that can gobble up the masses is one way for the park to look at the justification for the change. With the magic band providing all sorts of metrics, they have to know that space is not being utilized to it's full extent. Not factoring in the IP. I think a simulator might make the most sense there. Simulators allow for changing the IP a little more easily. Unsure how many simulator pods they could fit in that space along with a the real estate for a corral to wrangle in the public.

answering my own question. It looks like Stitch is roughly half the size of Star Tours area.

If I could recall the actual simulator room portion of despicable me/Nicktoons/Hanna is puny compared to the size of the building it is in. I believe (as of despicable me) the preshow takes up twice as much space as the simulators, the post show is just as big of not a little bit smaller than the main show and the gift shop is about the same size if not bigger. A simulator should fit just fine in those spaces, though I am a interested to know how it'll fit in size wise

A 3D sim ride along with WALL-E would work in Tomorrowland right?

...check that, I'm thinking Big Hero 6. Much more current property with an upcoming TV series.

Yeah, Wall-E, BH6 and Guardians are much better options. Hopefully Disney realizes this and puts Wreck it Ralph in Hollywood instead.

But right now I'd take anything over Stitch, even a Golden Girls or Mr Belvedere attraction.

The ride gets a lot of hate, and I understand why. But there is a part of me that does not want it to go away because Stitch is by far my favorite and most relatable character, and I love that he has an attraction I can visit. I've read that Stitch was anticipated to be this generation's Mickey Mouse. In a way, I think he really is almost that popular, though it's more of a cult following.

I'm ok with the ride going away if it's for something much better. (it better be at least as good as ExtraTerrorestrial.) But a part of me knows it won't mean a replacement Stitch ride any time soon, which makes me sad. A book report ride just doesn't work for most movies. The best thing I can think of is replacing Buzz with Stitch

well, since you're the only one not mocking my post, i'll answer you. Stitch is my all time favorite character. It makes me sad that he has a ride so many people hate. I wish we had a much better stitch ride, as stitch fans. I would love to see that. But I don't think great escape is going away, and i don't think we'll get anything new.

It would be pretty difficult (and expensive) to make the changes that people have been rumoring for tomorrowland. People have been talking about getting ride of stitch. getting rid of monsters inc. But what are they going to put in that's relevant? they can't just demolish the buildings. Not without demolishing part of the people mover while they're at it. And lets face it, they aren't going to shut down two rides and one show in tomorrowland all at the same time. and then what would they do about the people mover? Build it back in with whatever they replace the other two with? They can't get rid of the people mover. Not if they want to keep the image of caring about what Walt wanted in his parks. Granted, that's been made clear from what's happened in EPCOT, but even still it won't happen right away.
Disney has huge projects going on right now. Avatar in AK, not to mention rivers of light (if it ever opens!) Hollywood studios has like, 5 attractions open right now. They need to shake a leg with star wars and toy story. Disney springs is still getting touched up. Epcot needs a desperate amount of help. I don't think tomorrowland is at the top of the list for anyone in charge of Disney world.

Just my educated guess, I put some thought into this.

Why would it be difficult and expensive to put something new into where stitch is? From what I understand this would be a relatively cheap and quick redo.

Monsters isn't going anywhere.

There are plenty of relevant things that could go into tomorrowland even more relevant than stitch. Big Hero 6 and wreck it Ralph are the rumored IPs right now for the replacement.

The building wouldn't be demolished it would just be changed inside.

Two rides and a show? They would only be closing stitch nothing else. I'm confused where you are getting that.

How do we know what Walt wanted? Maybe he would've gotten rid of the people mover by now.

This would be a pretty simple change of attractions and it's not like stitch is brining in a lot of people. MK needs people eating attractions. That's the busiest park right now.
