sticky threads

How do I search for sticky threads on a topic before I ask in a forum? I've noticed many users wishing that newbies would do this so many of the same questions would not have to repeated over and over again, but I can't figure out how to do this.

You can use the search facility at the top of the page

When I tried this before posting, it gave all the threads with the word sticky thread in them, not the ones posted by sticky. Does this make sense?
