Yeah!!!!! I am so glad to hear she is doing well.:cheer2:

Thanks. She's pretty pleased with herself. And we're so proud of her. The new coaches complimented her pretty form and were surprised that the level 4 skills she can do are all self-taught. They thought she'd been training level 4 already. :woohoo:

Awhile back I posted about wanting to get DD a beam. Well we did and I have found out that it was money well spent. In the week that we got it, my DD has learned the level 4 dismount and can do it on the high beam at the gym. Last night she was the only 3/4 at practice and got to show the 2 optional girls that were there that she could do it. So she has gone from hating and fearing the beam to having all of her level 4 skills. Just needs to work on higher handstand tappers.

Also, last night at practice DD and the comp girls were doing fish and tap swings on the high bar while they were working on their bar rotation. The optional girls were taking their turn on the bars in rotation with the level 3/4 and 4/5, (but working on their giants, etc) I look over and see my DD waiting in between the 2 optional girls that were in the gym last night. One is level 10 and the other level 8 and both high school seniors, my DD is 1st grade and tiny for her age. 44 1/2 inches and 41 1/2 lbs. It was so neat to see the girls that were moving on, and my DD one of the younger girls in the gym together, especially since there are only 4 optional girls in the gym and 3 of them are graduating and the 4th is injured and it is not know if she will be able to return to the sport. So the girls in the gym that will be level 5 are going to be the big girls of the gym next year.

On another board that I go to someone posted this link to a really cool remember when type montage of gymnastics, and seeing my daughter's interaction with the optional girls made me think of it.

Even with DD just starting out, there are points to it that can already hit home.

Barb,

When I click on the link it doesn't take me to the video directly, but if it's the video I think it is - it is great! It can bring a tear to your eye. I also love the song in the background. I have this video saved in my favorites because when dd gets older I want her to watch it.

Like the scene you were describing about your dd, the same happened to my dd the other day.

She went to her bar rotation (she's training L8) and the 10s came over and were working bars at the same time - they have States coming up this weekend. There was my petite dd (11.5 yrs old, 52 inches tall and 62#) standing among the HS girls. She looked like a dwarf compared to them. It was neat to watch and I know that dd enjoyed working with them.

Don't you just love those moments???

OK I think that I fixed the link, and yes it is the montage that you are thinking of. I think that when the optional girls go off to college in the fall it will be hard for the coaches, especially since our female coach use to coach the girls back when they were level 4 and 5 at the Y. They would always joke that when she was older she would have her own gym and they would then compete for her. Little did they even know that would come true.

Bumping this back to the top,

Missypie, did your daughter do the TAAF state meet yet?

Want to brag about my DD:
She did 3 mill circles in practice tonight herself  :yay: :woohoo:

It has been great going to practices these last few week, first she did her level 4 beam dismount herself, then it was the round off back handspring on the tumble track herself, Monday night was the stem rise during bar conditioning, tonight was a standing back handspring on one of the mats with nearly no spot, just the coach next to her, and then to finish it off the mill circle. We are getting very excited for level 4, also she will be going to Lake Owen this summer, I cannot wait to see what she does there.

Thanks for asking. No, TAAF state is the first weekend of May. Grandma and Grandpa are even coming to see it since they've never seen her compete (hope she does better than last meet ;) ).

She's SO excited about cheerleading now. Yesterday they started "stunts." She is "back right" and learned how to cradle and catch the flyer and is so proud that she never dropped her, etc. It's fun to see her so excited, because she hasn't been that excited about gymnastics in a while.

Barb that is great. It seems like she is really advancing. Level 4 is so much fun.

Missypie it sounds like you dd is very happy. That is great. Good luck at the next meet.

My girls state meet is this weekend. My 8 year old has had problems with her leg. She has had pain and swelling in her calf and swelling in her knee for 4 weeks now and no one is sure why. She has had a MRI of her knee and today she has one of her calf. This is the first week she has practiced vault and floor in a month so it should be interesting. I just hope both my girls have fun.

Hi all Im a gym mom too! I have 2 DD 1 is 8 and other is 3

About you and your gymnast:
How old was your child when they started gymnastics? my 1st DD was 5 and started cheerleading did that for 2 seasons and hated it so we decided to try gmnastics.. we switched gyms and love our new gym! its awsome my DD 3 started at 2 1/2 and loves it wanted to go 2-3 times a week but only goes once a week I try to cordinate the days so I only have to go 2 X a week..

Do levels 1/2/3 compete in your area/state? Level 3 at her other gym yes we competed and traveled alot! new gym yes but compete in house until level 4 then travel again.

Ok so I watched this video and 1st off I love this song and then with all that added im sitting here crying like a baby!

Skylar had a terrific meet today! She placed 2nd on bars and 1st on everything else, including all-around! Vault, beam, floor and the all-around were all personal best scores for her, too. It was a great meet! Here's the break down:

Vault- 9.425
Bars- 9.525
Beam- 9.325
Floor- 9.500

All-Around- 37.775

You can watch the video on YouTube at "SArntson". It is labeled "Flip Fest gymnastics meet". (Apparently my post count is too low to put up the link.)

The State meet is next weekend. It is her last level 2 meet and then she skips up to level 4. Go Skylar!!!

I love Skylar's YouTube video. What program did you use to do it? I have a few of my daughter's tumbling/trampoline passes on youtube, but I haven't figured out how to do the "montage" yet. Keep up the great work Skylar!

I'm using Vegas Movie Studio. It's a little tricky to learn, though. Luckily, my brother knows how to use it and gave me a lesson. :-D

Has anyone attended IGC Camp in PA? We went there to the open house today and it seemed wonderful. Just curious if anyone has any experience good or bad??
Great Meet Skyler!!!!!
On our front. DD split the beam the other day and knocked the wind out of her. Luckily she got right back up but it was her first really bad scare. NO major injuries but she is very sore and bruised.

Bryce had his state meet yesterday. He did a great job. Of course it was one of those meets were the awards were messed up. Some how the scores for his last rotation weren't entered into the computer, so Bryce and all of his teammates weren't placing. We had to stay 45 min. late to get it fixed. There were 72 kids in his age group ( 9 year-old level fives ).

Floor - 8.9 He fell on his front handspring.
Vault - 9.15 His best vault this season.
High Bar - 8.9 With no kip.
P-Bars - 8.4 He struggled on his back uprise.
Rings - 9.45 2nd place
Pommels - 9.45 2nd place :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

All Around 54.25 - 10th :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

I can't believe he got 10th out of 72 with a fall and no kip. This was not only his highest all around he has never even gotten a 53 before.

My dd went to IGC a couple of yrs ago and loved it. She hasn't been back though because of things just coming up - like vacation, our HC/O is not big on the kids going to camp, so you have to go the week off at the end of June and we tend to vacation that week. If it was up to dd, she would go back to camp in a heartbeat!
