Steve Irwin (crocodile hunter) dies..........

If I remember correctly in her new book Steve and me she metions a special thank you to John Edwards, I think it was at the end of the book, in the special thank you sections.

Wow! You're right. I just checked the back of my book and her acknowledgement says:

"A special thank you to my dear friend John Edward. If it wasn't for you, this book would never have been written."

Who knew?! :confused3

I just don't have a good thing to say about Teri Irwin. I never did understand what Steve saw in her...She doesn't have a feminine bone in her body and I think she is totally going the wrong way with her "advertising" of Bindi and the way she has the kids constantly in the spotlight. I cringe to think of Bindi in a few years, and hope that her grandfather has enough influence to counteract what her mother is doing to her.

I personally think terri is a pretty woman, extremely feminine? No, I hardly think Steve Irwin would have wanted a prissy princess that was more worried about breaking a nail than saving an animal. I think they were perfect for one another.

As far as how she's raising her children, I think Bindi is doing what she wants and I don't think Terri's forcing her to do anything.

I agree! I can't imagine that Steve would have wanted anyone extremely feminine and delicate.. in their profession, his bride would have to be able to do physically demanding work. I also think she is very pretty!

Too true. Any girl that Steve chose to be his wife would have to be prepared to get down and dirty and rough it.

Terri is quite attractive when she is not wearing her Khakis... I don't feel the colour suits her (it did Steve).

As to Bindi..... Bindi is doing what Bindi wants to do. It's not Terri who is making her do all the stuf she does. If you want to blame anyone.. blame John Stainton, but on the whole though, if Bindi doesn't want to do something she won't and if she does want, then like her Dad.. she gives it her all.

ETA... Looks are only skin deep.. so who is to say that you have to "look" attractive to be attractive.

You should never question someone's love for someone else.
He loved her, he had many, personal reasons for loving her. I'm sure she was absolutely beautiful to him.
She's obviously feminine enough to bear two children for him. I'm sure that was plenty enough to him.
He saw way more in her than you'll ever know, so don't be so quick to judge. :sad2:

and the way she has the kids constantly in the spotlight.

FWIW, there are somewhat recent trip reports from Disneyland talking about how people saw them, just going about their day. Without even a "plaid", a tourguide/bodyguard, just being under the radar except for those who happened to see them and recognize them. Not sure that that's *constantly* in the spotlight...

And I think it's so sad what you say about her femininity. People love people for so many reasons, and he obviously loved her very much.

From Extra tv:

Aussies Terri and Bindi Irwin are taking America by storm, and "Extra" was their first stop to promote Australia Week here in the U.S. And despite the tragic passing of beloved "Crocodile Hunter" Steve, the two have not dulled their enthusiasm for wildlife conservation.

Since Steve's death in 2006, Bindi Irwin has kept his legacy alive by traveling the world and supporting his Wildlife Warrior Program. When asked if Bindi thinks her dad is proud of her, she responded, “I hope so. I’m trying my very best.”

She continued, "I do have a lot of dreams about him. I believe in angels. I really do think we need to carry on his message.”

Bindi isn't the only one who constantly feels her father’s presence. “At home, we live at the Australian Zoo so it’s all things Steve,” Terri said. “I think there’s a little bit of Steve guiding us along."

The Irwins told “Extra” that singing superstar Kylie Minogue will be honored as part of G’Day USA: Australia Week event in Los Angeles. “Kylie has made such wonderful contributions to Australia, and Kylie and Bindi are about the same size,” joked Terri. Speaking of music, Bindi admitted she’s a fan of all genres, saying, “I listen to pretty much anything, from country music to rock and roll.”

When asked if Terri has any advice for Britney Spears, she said, “Bindi’s the one who said, ‘People who are having trouble should go in the bush with us when we do our crocodile research work,' and if Britney and her family want to go in the bush with us, we’d love to have them.”

OK that part has the tears flowing.

Anybody heard anything about this??

The Crocodile Hunter's father, Bob Irwin, has resigned from the zoo he helped to build over 36 years ago!

Why'd he quit????

There's been major dramz with Steve Irwin's widow, Terri!

Rumours of an Irwin family feud have been circulating since January and volunteers and a disgruntled employee have recently claimed staff were upset that Poppa Bob had been banned from the Australia Zoo after an argument with Terri.

The elder Irwin was reportedly upset with Terri Irwin over treatment of staff, management of Wildlife Warriors and the commercial direction of the world-famous attraction.

Bob has vowed to keep his son's dream alive at a new property he has bought near Kingaroy, northwest of Brisbane.

In his resignation letter, Poppa Irwin thanks zoo staff, Animal Hospital workers, Wildlife Warriors and "all Steve's friends out there", but makes no reference to Terri or her contribution to his son's conservation empire or to the raising of his grandchildren, Bindi and Bob.

Terri Irwin has refused to comment on Bob's departure.

I am so glad you found this thread. I came here to post the same question. Maybe Nutsy can shed some light on it for us since she lives there.....

I found this via google:
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,23303522-5007132,00.html

BOB Irwin, father of Crocodile Hunter Steve, has snubbed his daughter-in-law Terri in a heartfelt resignation letter, saying he has quit Australia Zoo to "keep his son's dream alive".

Mr Irwin told of his "difficult decision" in leaving the conservation and tourism icon that he helped build over 36 years. This follows claims by zoo staff and volunteers of an ongoing feud with Terri over treatment of staff, management of Wildlife Warriors and the commercial direction of the world-famous attraction.

Mr Irwin provided his statement exclusively to the The Sunday Telegraph yesterday, angry that zoo management had refused to make it public on Friday and had instead sent out words "that were not his".

In the 300-word letter, he talks of his desire to continue "Steve's dream" at a new property near Kingaroy.

He thanks zoo staff, animal hospital workers, Wildlife Warriors and "all Steve's friends out there", but makes no reference to Terri or her contribution to his late son's conservation empire and the raising of his grandchildren Bindi and Bob.

Mr Irwin pays tribute to his son, who died after a stingray barb pierced his heart as he filmed a documentary off north Queensland in September 2006.

"You may rest assured that Judy (his partner) and I will continue with Steve's dream, with the passion and commitment he would expect," he writes.

"Steve's ultimate passion, even from a young boy, was always for the conservation of Australian wildlife and its habitat. When Judy and I move to our new property we intend to carry on with wildlife rehabilitation and conservation projects."

Terri, zoo director Wes Mannion and family manager John Stainton refused to comment on claims of a family rift.

The official statement from the zoo on Friday contains none of the words Mr Irwin wanted to convey.

It reads: "Bob is a gentleman of retirement age and we fully support and love him dearly. He has been through so much grief with the loss of his first wife Lyn and only son. These rumours (of a rift) need to end in respect to the Irwin family."

Mr Irwin said he had stepped down from his role as manager of the Ironbark Station wildlife sanctuary and koala research centre, near Crows Nest west of Brisbane, as well as his duties at Australia Zoo.

"In late 1999, Steve and I discussed important projects that were to take place at Ironbark Station. These projects have been completed with the wonderful assistance from staff and our 'wildlife caring' friends," he said.

Rumours of an Irwin family feud have been circulating since January and volunteers and a disgruntled employee recently claimed staff were upset that Bob had been banned from the zoo after an argument with Terri.

The attraction is very much a family business, with Bob's son-in-law Frank Muscillo the zoo manager.

Meanwhile Terri Irwin and Australia Zoo could face a tax probe in the wake of multi-million dollar civil lawsuits against them.

Australian Taxation Office officials were spotted sitting in on preliminary hearings at the Victorian County Court last week.

Documents before the court allege Terri Irwin's accountant advised her to enter into a transaction involving an offshore bank.

Terri and the Australia Zoo are being sued for $2.5 million by debt collection agency Alyssa Treasury Services Ltd.

Terri has denied being knowingly involved in any illegitimate activity.

She maintains she knows nothing about the matters which prompted the civil lawsuit.

Her lawyers argued in Victoria's County Court the highly complex case should be moved to Queensland.

Judge Kennedy has reserved her decision until Friday.

The apparent row between Bob and Terri Irwin made headlines in Queensland after Mr Irwin disputed a press release from Australia Zoo and an anonymous staff member told the local newspaper tension at the tourist attraction had reached boiling point.

The staffer said the falling out between Bob and Terri came after Mr Irwin spoke to his daughter-in-law "a few weeks ago'' about the treatment of staff, the management of Wildlife Warriors and "animal-welfare issues''.

"The zoo is a real boiling pot,'' the woman said. "Staff are very upset about what's happened to Bob ... but he doesn't want to talk to the media.''

The feud was first talked about in a women's magazine, which claimed that Mr Irwin had been banned from the zoo. New Idea also claimed Mr Irwin was facing a battle to remain in the home he was living in at the wildlife reserve at Blackbutt.

However, Mr Irwin initially said that story was "made up'' before agreeing to release a statement on the matter - but only after it had been approved by Australia Zoo general manager Frank Muscillo.

Mr Muscillo is married to Joy, one of Mr Irwin's two daughters and a sister of the late "Crocodile Hunter'', Steve Irwin.

The matter then became complicated when the statement that was issued was, according to Mr Irwin, not the one he wrote.

"I wrote 1.5 pages and spent a lot of time on it,'' he said.

"I made it clear there were to be no alterations. I wanted to say it how it was.''

The statement from the zoo simply read: "Bob is a gentleman of retirement age and we fully support and love him dearly. He has been through so much grief with the loss of his first wife Lyn and only son. These rumours need to end in respect to (sic) the Irwin family.''

Mr Irwin said: "No, that's not my statement,'' adding tongue-in-cheek: "Everyone knows I'm not a gentleman. I didn't know anything about it (the other statement), but that's par for the course.''

Mr Irwin said the statement he wanted released "sort of puts the matter to rest, but not (exactly) puts it to bed''. Mr Irwin said he did not want to reveal what was in his original release.

"I'd like to get it sorted,'' he said.

The anonymous caller, who feared for her job, said that Mr Irwin was respected by zoo staff.
"He's a humble person,'' she said. "He's probably hoping it will go away but he's not happy with what's going on watching employee after employee leave.''

Mr Muscillo said in response that the zoo employed 550 people and there would always be some on the staff with axes to grind

Wow, that's too bad. One thing's for certain - this is not how Steve would have wanted things to turn out.

Ok, this is what I know and what we've been told over here.

Bob Irwin Snr is leaving Australia Zoo around the middle of the year. He is currently building a home at Crows Nest (nowhere near Australia Zoo) and will move there permantly around June/July.

From what I can gather, he and Terri are at loggerheads over things that Bob snr and Steve and planned for the Zoo and Terri is not complying with Steve's wishes in this respect. There is also talk that Australia Zoo is fast becomming too commercial. That I agree with. I for one am tired of hearing about all the "Steve Irwin" named things since Steve passed and it's really over the top. So many things have been named after him or re-named even. There is hardly a week goes by when there is not something in the news do with "Steve Irwin" this or "Steve Irwin" that. Now Bindi has a doll as well.

Sorry, but enough is enough.

I think this all might be caused by grief of those mourning him and also exactly how the Zoo should go on. Steve's death changed things there without a doubt. It can not and will not continue as if he had never died. All the circumstances have changed that Zoo forever.

Yes, they should and need to keep Steve's dream alive but they have to change how to do it. I am sure part of the commericialism is because of people flocking there because of their love of Steve Irwin and curiousity of the whole place.

I hope they can come together and find some peace and that this is just an very hard transition and turning point for the Zoo and their family.
It is probably hard not to "make hay while the sunshines" and hard for people not to want to honor him at every turn. That is probably an no win situation--damned if you accept and damned if you don't.

I think the the comments about Terri Irwin's looks etc. were over the top ugly and rude. She is very attractive and seems like a down to earth woman (who is still grieving). A lot of men do not find prissy, fake women attractive. They want a real woman, a person not afraid to of advenbture and a little dirt. Terri Irwin is that type of woman. I feel sure she rocked his world!

Wow, that is really sad to hear about the rift between Terri and Bob Sr. Hopefully everything will get sorted out. I'm sure the fact that everyone's emotions are running high and each person's desire to do what they think Steve would've wanted are factors in this...but I hope they can come to some sort of compromise and think logically (while still keeping Steve's vision in mind) about what would really be best for the Zoo, its employees and their family instead of being ruled by their emotions. I hope what I'm saying makes sense...the articles posted above about these issues seemed really emotionally charged to me.

Edited to add: Wow, Buckalew...you beat me to it! I totally agree with you.

And I, with you. :)

That's good to know!:)

Personally, I always thought that Terri seemed to be a perfect match for Steve, with one of the most important things being their shared passion for wildlife. It was basically love at first sight with those two.

Bob Irwin dodges talk of rift with Terri

THE father of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin has further distanced himself from an alleged rift with his daughter-in-law Terri Irwin as reports emerged yesterday of plunging staff morale at the family's famous Sunshine Coast zoo.

An exasperated Bob Irwin said yesterday he would much rather jump on crocs than be embroiled in an alleged feud rocking Australia Zoo and the multimillion-dollar Irwin family empire.

Mr Irwin also hinted strongly that zoo director Wes Mannion's denial of a family rift was not the whole truth.

"It's um, going to get pretty muddy," Mr Irwin told The Courier-Mail. "There's a lot of stuff going on and there's a lot of (other) stuff I don't know about.

"I'm trying to stay out of it as much as I can. I'd much rather jump on crocs than put up with this.

"At this stage Id like to stay out of it as much as I can but that can change.

"It'll change from week to week (especially) if people keep telling lies. I'm not into that."

Mr Irwin's comments came as another zoo source, who declined to be named, said two senior female zoo staff members had a fist fight over an alleged romantic affair with a senior male staffer.

The source also said the zoo's general manager, Frank Muscillo who is married to Bob Irwin's daughter Joy, bunkered down somewhere in Hervey Bay to avoid the media spotlight.

Mr Muscillo co-signed controversial loan documents over which the zoo is now facing legal action.

A debt collection firm is suing the zoo for $2.5 million and Terri Irwin for $60,000 over unpaid bills of exchange – unconditional promises to pay money as part of their involvement in an alleged tax minimisation scheme. A trial at the Victorian County Court is expected to begin in October.

Mr Mannion said on Tuesday that for the past 12 years Bob Irwin had played no part in the zoo's management. "For the last 12 years the management team is identical to what it is today," Mr Mannion said. "There's been Steve, Terri, myself and Frank (Muscillo)."

"Unfortunately, Stevie's not here but the management of the zoo will continue in exactly the same way it has. We've all worked together."

Rejecting suggestions of a rift between Bob Irwin and daughter-in-law Terri, Mr Mannion said:

"As far as the workings of the zoo and where the zoo is headed, he (Bob) has never had any real interest in it, but what he does have a huge interest in is conservation and he' s just moved on to another conservation project.

"It's not a rift. Bob has decided to go his different way. The zoo is heading in a direction that its always headed and everyone's aware of that. Bob has played a small part in the zoo for the last x-amount of years. He deserves privacy. He's a 68-year old man, he's lost his family and we won't talk about that."

Terri Irwin warned: Pay up or lose Australia Zoo

Terri Irwin is facing a court battle over an alleged £1.2 million debt.

The 43-year-old widow of the late Steve Irwin lost a bid to have the case against her Australia Zoo moved from Victoria to Queensland, where it is based, and now faces a tough fight to save the business.

The zoo is being pursued by debt collectors Alyssa Treasury Services, which took over debts allegedly owed to a number of overseas companies and banks.

The company claims Terri and the Australia Zoo, opened by Steve's father Bob in 1970, failed to honour a business agreement regarding the repayment of the debt.

The court case is expected to take place in October.

When the legal action first emerged last year, Terri denied being "knowingly involved" in any illegal activity.

John Stainton, the zoo's manager, added that he had "no b****y idea" what the lawsuits were about.

Earlier this week, Bob Irwin resigned from Australia Zoo and revealed he plans to set up a rival business in Queensland on a 242-acre site.

He said: "You can rest assured that I will continue Steve's dream with the passion and commitment he would expect."

Steve died in 2006 when he was fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray while snorkelling off Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

He and Terri have two children together - Bindi, nine and four-year-old Bob.
