Did I hear this right or not? I thought I heard people calling in saying his show was soon going to be pulled off the air.

I doubt it. "They've" been predicting it for as long as he's been on the air.

I doubt it. He has too large a fan base, which means high ratings. Ratings mean money. They big-wigs can complain about him all they want. But we all now they are doing it while counting the money he's making them.

I hope not. I'm not a fan but I don't think the goverment has any business pushing him off the radio. If someone doesn't like him, then don't tune into his show, simple as that.

BTW I'm not looking to get into a debate about this, this statement is JMHO that's all. ;)

::yes::

Although I dont think he should be pushed off the radio either...

but IMHO its smut radio  go ahead flame away, I can take it ;)

freedom of speech
everyone who doesn't like him and feel free to turn the dial

I just don't see what anyone likes about him. Although I haven't listened to his radio show, I've surfed past him on E! and I think he is gross and everything about his show is repulsive. While I think people should be able to voice their opinions on the air, I think that he is too pornographic. I know you can just switch channels, but what if you have a child with a radio in his room? I really wouldn't want anyone under 18 to listen to that stuff.

Anyhow, I know the above was off topic but I hope they do drop him from the airwaves. What purpose does he serve?

What purpose does he serve? Entertainment. It might not be your kind of entertainment, but quite apparently a lot of other people do think he's entertaining.

ITA, I find his show hysterical. Do I let my kids listen? Nope. When the show gets a little to pornographic for me, I just switch over to my CD player. After a couple of tunes, I switch back. :D

Not to mention Robin's news is much better than anything you'll find on CNN or Fox! :p

But as adults in a free society,we should be able to make the decision whether or not we listen/watch his show. I don't want ANYONE making that choice for me.

I have howled over many of his bits. I have CHANGED THE CHANNEL when he makes me uncomfortable. Which he does at times.

Do I think he should be taken off the air? Absolutely NOT.

Did anyone ever hear his interview with Al Michaels after the OJ thing?? Remember the networks were all on live after the "chase" and someone called in and said they could see the action in OJ's driveway, led Peter Jennings along for a good 5 minutes and then said ba ba booey?? Peter Jenning was dumbstruck and Michaels KNEW what was going on. Stern's interview with Michaels was THE FUNNIEST THING I EVER heard on the radio!!!!

Isn't there a line that needs to be drawn though? I can't imagine you think ANYTHING is OK on the radio.

From what I understood a lot of radio stations are cutting back on the questionable subject and words used. The dj's don't like the restrictions for a good reason. The bigwigs don't have a clearcut distinction on what's allowed and what's not allowed, yet are fining people and stations at will.
I don't like Stern, but that's my choice. I don't think it's fair to expect people to adhere to a set of rules that haven't been written yet.

ITA

kpgclark -- sure, there's a line to be drawn. The problem in this situation is like Serena described. Nobody's (e.g. the FCC) officially come out and said what the line is. Rather, some stations and radio personalities are threatened with fines, but others aren't for similar stuff.
