Steps involved in renting points

New to DVC and got some questions about how to rent points. Unfortunately we have points that we are not going to be able to use and would like to rent them out. What I'm looking for is advice on the steps I should go through when I find a renter and we have agreed on the # of points and price. At that point, do I send the "rental agreement" or do I make the reservation first? Also, what is the best way to handle the money? Check? Money order? Paypal?

I have tried to review the boards looking for this but most of post seem to be advice for renters. Thanks in advance.

Here is a DVC Point Rental Primer with some good information about the process. You should also review the informational threads at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board. Here is information about creating a rental contract.

I would make the reservation in the name of the renter and then send the rental contract with the agreed-upon payment timeframe (as long as the rental is not within 30 days of arrival in which case I'd want full payment in advance due to the Holding Account).

Basically, as the member wanting to rent you should above all protect yourself first and then think of ways to make the process as smooth and reassuring as possible for those who would rent from you.

Good luck! :)

You need to think about what you will and will not allow. Will you allow the non-member to cancel and expect a refund? Will you allow the non-member to change the reservation? If yes to these, will there be a point where you say no?

You probably need to make a reservation as soon as you get a non-member to agree. Especially if there is a chance the reservation will be lost if you wait too long? Will you borrow points to make a larger reservation?

You probably need to come up with a contract and/or terms that you can live with, then post a points for rent on the Rent/Trade Board. But read the sticky threads at the top of the board first. If you don't, you risk having your post removed or not posted.

There is a post somewhere about Rental Contracts that you might want to review first.
