Step foot in the living room and die!!!!

Everyone on here who has made horrible comments to the OP absolutely deserves what they got. I don't think I've ever seen a thread on the DIS that made me so mad - because it's a noncontroversial thread and people are acting like she committed murder. If I were the OP I probably would have made some sort of nasty turn too. (And I don't really care if this gets me ignored since if I had a life at all I'd be gone after this thread.)

I'm going to pretend the last page didn't happen and address the walking tour remarks. It is very common for me to never see the upstairs or non public rooms in people's homes unless I have been given a "tour". My best friend was getting new carpet and we went upstairs to see it. I had never been upstairs in her home. There had never been a reason to go up there. The kids play downstairs, there is a bathroom downstairs....I know where she keeps everything in her kitchen, but I had never been upstairs. A lot of people see my bedroom because we only have one floor and two bathrooms - one of which is in our room. However, whenever people have large homes I don't go wandering around unless there is a reason or they are giving me a "walking tour".

I've always thought that the DIS Community Board was one big lesson in Psychology/Sociology anway. :)

That is pretty sick, if true. Perhaps I could suggest a class dealing with the presenting symptoms of personality disorders (ie, manipulation, grandiose fabrications, etc), seems you already have enough background to keep your students busy for at least a semester....

Deserves what we got? What exactly did we get? LOL! I must have missed that part. What we all have is a liar that brings up something stupid, doesn't like the responses and then lies to get herself out of it. GMAFB.

disykat, I was just confused as to what a walking tour was? As well as the plasma TV issue. The whole post seemed contrived. I certainly wasn't trying to make the OP feel horrible, I hope she didn't see it that way. Although I personally DO believe this is an experiment, I thought that from the beginning and actually asked the OP if her post was for real a couple of pages back.

There was way too much details to be an experiment. The OP talked about her dinner parties she has, her tupperware parties, which rooms are offlimits, which can have food in them, even which videos they watch on their TV. The only part made up was where the OP said it was for a class.

"Horrible" comments? "Committed murder"?? I think I missed those posts.. The majority of the posters here pointed out that they found this was "odd" behavior - or not something they would subject their own families to.. Certainly not "horrible" - and definitely not being treated as though she had "committed murder"...

And what exactly is it that we "got" - that we "deserved"?

As a psych major, any experiments I do has to be in a controlled environment so not to skew data. This isn't exactly a controlled environment.

People are upset that they weren't treated nicely, ie tricked. The OP was called immature, compulsive, tasteless, rude, crazy, extreme, a show off, to name a few. She was told that she treats her daughter like a caged animal, to get a grip, to get over it, etc. IMO those are horrible comments. I think "tricking people" into participating in a psych experiment, or pretending to, is mild in comparison.

I missed ALL of that! Guess I'll have to go back and re-read the entire thread..

You have got to be kidding me? Guess the OP isn't looking to win friends and influence people.

If you want to do some studies for your psych class, you should've just asked.......there are more than a few interesting case studies right here on the DIS. Unfortunately, I think you may have just become one.

::yes::

If this is the case, I guess I failed, because I was one who understood the OP and feel that my LR and DR are off limits. Believe me, I tried going in the LR to sit, but its so darn clean and vacumned that I don't want to make a mess. I must be compulsive, nuts and have some type of disorder. I guess I would be a good subject to work on. So to the OP, if this was some type of experiment or trick to get us to "fess" up, you should have just asked, I would have volenteered and maybe you could have helped me with my PROBLEM.

I didn't even respond to this thread because I couldn't find anything nice to say; however, I feel so *used* now. Ick! :(

IF it IS for her psychology class, one must remember that deception is often used in psychological experiments. However it isn't considered "unethical" as long as the tester informs the subjects after the experiment is over.

It's a common practice which I learned of in my psychology class just yesterday :)

the deception is usually preceeded, by getting the subjects to believe they are participating in a different study or type of experiment,

not by opening up a conversation in a chatroom where people believe they are among friends, and then betraying the trust, that such an atmosphere implies

Ethical researchers follow ethical rules.

On the other hand, if it looks like a nut and acts like a nut...

"OK, I have enough responses for my class. Thanks guys!"

Tanya--Could you please inform us on how many responses you needed? Honestly, I don't believe you. I know you say you are a college professer, but I think your smug "I have enough responses" comment was very unprofessional. If I had a prof like you in college, I would be asking for my money back.

It's as if you said "You are such a bunch of suckers--You fell for it!". Sorry. Again, I think you owed everyone involved in your little "study" more of an explanation than "Thanks guys!"

For class, could you leave out the part about the plasma tv and the home movies. I was picturing guests rolling their eyes behind your back and sneaking peeks at their watches, so I couldn't concentrate on your main point.
