We are thinking about buying DVC, but I've always wanted to stay at the Poly. When I mentioned this to DH, he said, "we would be able to stay there on our points though, right?" And I told him yes, but that I wasn't sure about the points. Is there somewhere that I can find a points chart for this??
I think the points chart we have (from our DVC tour in February) just has the DVC resorts. I know that this would NOT be the best use of our points!

It will be next year before we are about to buy DVC, so I'm trying to spend this time researching, to see if it is really the best fit for us.

Thanks!!!

Not sure where to point you for a points chart, but my member book shows anywhere from 41-116 points per night, garden view. Points are higher on weekends. Like you said, not the best use of points. Poly is great but not at those prices. That's comparable to a 2BR at BCV!

You can stay at the Poly... infact there was a thread on this just earlier this week...

I thought they were saying that it was like 40-80 points per night though!

OUCH!!! Never mind!! Maybe we can get a 40% off code and stay there before we join DVC (if that is what we choose to do).

Thanks for your help!

I recently had to cancel a DCL reservation. Those points can not be used at DVC resorts now. The Disney collection contains some of the WDW resorts. I had always wondered why anyone would use that many points to say at a regular room at WDW. Now I know. We will be staying at the Wilderness cabins next spring break.

Sorry you had to cancel DCL :sad2: Makes me glad we paid cash for our upcoming cruise.

I know. What we did was use points for me and my wife and paid cash for the kids. But when the school district changed the spring break week we had little choice. It was 182 points that got brought back in to our account for 2011. We think the Wilderness Cabins will work best for us but I would much rather be in a THV. Live and learn I guess.

That is a shame. :sad2:

Maybe you could share your story when the big "are cruises a good use of points?" debates go on. I don't think people realize that once you book your cruise on points, you are committed. We have yet to ever cancel a cruise, but the one time I would use points for a cruise, would be the one time I would need to cancel.

I have heard that those Wilderness cabins are very nice. Enjoy!

I did not realize my self until I started asking questions to MS. Those points can only be used for the Concierge Collection and the Disney Collection. But those are the rules and I can only blame myself for not knowing. We had looked at the cabins before we joined DVC. So I think they will work out nicely as an alternative. I only wished they had a compact washer/dryer. That would make them dang near perfect for us.

I think some people actually do know about the cancellation policy, but they think that they would not cancel a cruise.
Sorry this has happened to you.
I'm surprised they don't have a washer/dryer, that is strange.

How would trip insurance work in this instance? Wouldn't the passenger booking on points be able to get the cash value of the points and forfit them instead of having the points in the WD Collection?

We are a family of 5 who has stayed at the cabins for 15 years and LOVE them! We finally joined DVC recently but are having golf cart withdrawal! Love the outdoor space, deck, picnic tables and grills right outside my door. The downside was the double beds (murphy bed)! Enjoy your stay and rent a golf cart even if it is for a day or 2 check out all the RV's!

It sounds like you need to experience the Tree House Villa's. They have everything except the golf cart.

I don't know how that would have worked. Honestly, we have never purchased the trip insurance.

Your member book has all the point lists. And there's always a quick call to Member Services.

Unlike some on the board, I'm not averse to using points to stay at the non DVC resorts. I don't do it all the time, but once in a while... sure. It add variety. Victoria and Alberts is not the best use of one's dollar if you just want something to eat, but it sure is good and fun!

Bought SSR (addonitis) resale for the sole purpose of THV! BLT 2 bedroom this Feb and banking SSR 2010 points for a longer stay in 2012 at THV! I will truly miss the golf carts but I am so excited to try ALL the resorts!

We stayed at the Poly CL lagoon View for a week last April after a Disney cruise and it was fantastic!!! If they ever open a DVC resort there I will be first in line lol!!!! :) High points but well worth it for the experience, in fact Disney probably lost money on all the free beer and wine I drank in the lounge that week ahahaha!!! :lmao:
